Principal’s Message
WELCOME TO A RETURNING FAMILYThis week we welcome the Fletcher family back to our school, after their travels overseas. We hopeyou settle in effortlessly and enjoy the warm support offered by our school community.
The school is calling for enrolments for 2019. It’s that time of year when we need to ensure we haveall siblings and local children, who may be friends or neighbours, ready to commence Kindergartennext year registered with us, so we can determine staffing needs to the Department of Education. Please contact the school office if you have not already enrolled, as the parent information eveningis being held on Monday 17 September at 6.30pm and orientation days start in the first week backnext term.
OUR SPORTING TEAMS SHINEHuge congratulations must go to all of the students who represented Forestville last week atthe Paul Kelly Cup and Basketball Gala Day. It is a testament to the students’ sportsmanshipand commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle that they compete so enthusiastically and withsuch a great attitude. Our girls AFL, under the passionate encouragement of Mrs Mackenzieand their supporters, played all games in their final round with every ounce of energyavailable, but missed out on a place in the grand final by a small margin. The basketball boysplayed admirably but missed out on the final by just 1 goal in 2 consecutive games, and thebasketball girls came through as the overall winners. A huge thank you to all supporters, butespecially Mr Brendan Scotter, Mrs Anahid Zouain, Mrs Anne Mackenzie and Mr James Ellis forcoaching, guiding and encouraging these students. Good luck to our Milo Cup cricketers thisweek.
FIVER FOR A FARMEROur Fiver for a Farmer fundraising day was a resounding success. The students dressed up andlooked fabulous as farmers, supporting the cause by raising in excess of $6000.00 dollars.Thank you to all families for supporting this initiative and for helping your children understandthe ramifications of drought and just how this may affect the lives of all Australians. It was agreat day and I do hope our community continues its conscious effort to care for the farmerswho are doing it hard at the moment.A special thank you goes to Zara and Emily from 3I for going the extra mile for our farmersand raising their own money on the weekend. This shows real initiative and compassion for theplight of others. Well done girls.
STAGE 3 CAMP - YEAR 5 TO BATHURST THIS WEEKOne of the highlights of primary school life is the overnight excursion. Many of us recall ourown experiences panning for gold at Bathurst or visiting the government buildings inCanberra. It is a long standing tradition that still holds great relevance for today’s students.
Over the next two weeks our Stage 3 classes head to Bathurst for three days. Year 5 studentsand teachers go this week, and our Year 6 students and their teachers head off next week. Theexcursion includes tracing the route and story of the explorers’ treks over the Blue Mountains, visiting and travelling on the scenic railway at Katoomba, and a visit to Abercrombie Caveswhich were used in 1830’s by bushrangers and in the 1850’s by gold miners in the area.
The group then stays at the recreated goldfields in Bathurst. It’s a terrific historic village full of“working” industries such as the blacksmith forge, merchants and townsfolk who depict life as it wasin the 1850s. The children build mud huts, bake damper, pan for gold and learn all about the stories, challenges and triumphs of early colonial life. They also visit the iconic Sheep and Cattle Drome tolearn about the farm and rural life, enjoy storytelling and barn dancing. These overnight excursions provide a memorable learning experience and also provide a wonderfullife opportunity for the children. It’s a mighty responsibility for the teachers, and I thank themsincerely for their 24/7 care and commitment and extend thanks to their families who makeadjustments to manage during their absenceWe would like to wish all of our Year 5 students and teachers, along with Mrs Cathie Howe, ourDeputy Principal, a great camp experience in Bathurst. This is a wonderful opportunity for growth inindependence, in hands-on learning about the history of Australia and in team building. It will becold so please make sure lots of warm clothes are packed. Have lots of fun Year 5!

A huge congratulations to the whole of Forestville Public School for their generous donations to helpour Aussie farmers. Forestville’s Fiver for a Farmer was a great success, with the donations reachingover a whopping $6000. $3000 of this has been donated to Buy a Bale, shared equally between hay, water and diesel purchases. The remaining $3000+ will be donated to Coles, who match dollar fordollar, and will donate the $6000+ to the Country Women's Association. Both organisations give100% of their donations to people affected by the drought. Please visit the following websites if youwould like more information about where our donations have gone.https://www.cwaofnsw.org.au/https://www.buyabale.com.au/donate/
Congratulations to 2L and 5C, both classes raising the most money in K-2 and 3-6 on average. All ofthe students and teachers certainly looked the part, donning their best farmer outfits and gettinginto the spirit of the day. Jack from 3I won the best dressed student in the school and Miss Shanahantook out the prize for the teachers. Miss Wilson, assisted by Christian and Cameron from 5W, treatedus to a fantastic whip-cracking demonstration at recess. We also learnt how whip-cracking can assistin everyday farm life.
A massive thank you to the SRC for coming up with the idea to help our farmers and implementingit. An extra special thank you to Blake T and Sid B, the SRC Presidents, who helped organise the day.It was a massive job and with the help of Felicity R, one of our school leaders, the three collected andcalculated donations and figured out the winning classes.
