The Fort Myers Beach Fire District is located in Southwest Lee County, Florida, covering the islands of Estero and San Carlos, as well as nearby areas. Our team provides services to a population of approximately 9,000 full time residents, over 40,000 peak season residents, and over 1.8 million visitors each year. In addition to a significant population increase in peak season, Estero Island is a well-known and highly frequented Spring Break destination for visitors around the world. The Fort Myers Beach Fire District covers a ten square mile area out of four facilities strategically placed within the District, as well as responds to many areas of Southwest Florida through an automatic aid and closest unit response system.

The District began as a volunteer fire service in 1949 by the Beach Improvement Association, Inc. The District incorporated as the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District in 1950 with an estimated population of only 2,500 residents. Since, the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District has become a full-service career emergency response organization protecting the residents and visitors of this highly sought after location.

The Fort Myers Beach Fire District provides a variety of services to include a multitude of fire suppression activities, Emergency Medical Advanced Life Support (ALS) on all apparatus, ambulance transport, technical rescue, hazardous materials incident response, and a variety of other emergency and non-emergency services.

The Operations Branch manages all operational aspects of the organization, to include emergency response. The Operations Branch is overseen by the Executive Assistant Fire Chief of Operations, who works closely with operational and administrative staff to execute the operational mission of the organization. This includes response to emergency incidents as well as non-emergency activities of our crews. Incorporated in the Operations Branch is the Training Division, Emergency Medical Service Division, and the Tools and Equipment Program. The Operations Branch also oversees statistical analysis and data coordination for operational activities.

Training Division The Fort Myers Beach Fire District Training Division coordinates and manages all initial, ongoing, and advanced level training. This includes development programs for the Firefighter, Driver Engineer, and Fire Officer. This division also manages all State and nationally required certifications. The Training Division coordinates promotional processes, hiring processes, and major incident reviews for the organization and other involved emergency service agencies.

Emergency Medical Services Division The Fort Myers Beach Fire District Emergency Medical Services Division (EMS) areas of responsibility include the management and planning of all levels of EMS delivery to include Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance transport, as well as fully staffed ALS fire apparatus to ensure the highest level of care is provided by the closest unit responding. The EMS Division also oversees EMS education, training, equipment, supplies, and administration of all medical services.

The Support Branch is overseen by the Fire Official. This branch includes the Life Safety Division, Support Services Program, Facilities and Logistics Program, and Operational Technologies Program. These activities include the many logistical, supply and maintenance related components of our organization, as well as facilities and grounds. In addition, this branch oversees all health and safety components for our team.

Life Safety Division The Fort Myers Beach Fire District Life Safety Division provides all prevention, community education, risk reduction, and code enforcement to our community. This includes fire and life safety inspections, as well as building plan reviews. This division also provides a variety of community outreach functions to educate our community, keep children safe in our schools, and much more. This division houses the Fire Official, which in addition to code enforcement and inspection programs, provides fire investigation services and public information.

The Administrative Branch manages everything from payroll and account payables to budgeting and forecasting finances many years in advance. The Administrative Branch is overseen by the Director of Finance and Administrative Services. This Branch provides support to all programs and divisions through document and policy management, benefit administration, purchasing processes, Information, Technology and Security Program and budgeting. The Administrative Branch also manages the organization’s human resource department, risk management, and strategic planning.

The Fire Chief oversees all of the organization’s branches and works with the Board of Fire Commissioners, administrative staff, legal counsel, accountants, and officers to oversee District functions. The Office of the Fire Chief also manages public records and the logistical components of the Board of Fire Commissioners. The Fire Chief serves as the direct liaison to the Board of Fire Commissioners by managing documentation, resolutions, meeting preparation, and other administrative considerations.

Although the Fort Myers Beach Fire District provides many traditional emergency and non-emergency services, we also provide many enhanced services to best cater to the unique nature of our community.

We are proud to offer both fire response, as well as ambulance transport service to the citizens and visitors of our area. By offering these services, we can achieve faster emergency medical response and transport times, as well as increase fire suppression capability. With limited access on and off the islands in seasonal traffic, as well as our significant coastline of highly frequented beaches, we also provide specialty beach capable ambulances, and rescue services through specialized equipment to best serve our community.

The Fort Myers Beach Fire District is amongst an elite group of United States Fire Departments who have achieved an Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating of two, as a result of the many aspects of our service delivery! Our organization has also received the American Heart Association’s Mission Lifeline Emergency Medical Services award multiple times, with the most recent award reaching Gold status.

The Fort Myers Beach Firefighter and Firefighter Paramedic possesses skilled and specialized work abilities involving the prevention, suppression, and extinguishment of fires; performs rescue and emergency medical services, and assists in the control and resolution of incidents.

The Firefighter & Firefighter Paramedic works under the direct supervision of the Company Officer, representing the District in a dignified manner by being well groomed, courteous, and tactful in all interactions with the community and other agencies.

The Firefighter & Firefighter Paramedic may assist Company Officers and the Driver Engineers in carrying out District policies, rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.

The Firefighter & Firefighter Paramedic participatesin aggressive training programs, regular drills, and responds to emergencies as a team member.

The annual estimated total Probationary Firefighter Paramedic Compensation andBenefits Package is valued at $97,058.

Base Pay: The base Probationary Firefighter Paramedic Salary is $52,771The base Non-Probationary Firefighter Paramedic Salary is $67,707.

Following the Probationary Period (at least 1 year), additional compensation levels are available for formal education and service time. Non-Probationary Firefighter Paramedic pay ranges from $66,070 to $75,330 in year two, and may escalate in subsequent years, subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and District policy.

Employee and Family Healthcare: The District is proud to provide 100% EmployeeHealthcare. Full Family Health, Dental and Vision coverage is also provided at anemployee co-share of 20%. Family health benefits are valued at $25,180 annually beforeco-pay. The District also provides a pre-tax plan for the cost of medical related expensesthrough a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) under the Internal Revenue Service Section125 Plan.

Retirement: An excellent retirement plan is provided by the District through the FloridaRetirement Services (FRS). The employee contributes 3% of wages, and the Districtcontributes 25.89% of gross salary, equaling a total contribution of 28.89%. Additionalretirement plans are available in the form of a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, as adeduction from employee pay.

Personal Paid Leave (PPL): PPL, Holiday Pay, and other benefits can be found in theDistrict 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Education, Development and Training: Education, Development, and Training ishighly encouraged by the District and funded for the employee through a rewardingEducation Plan.

Process Specifics

Applications will be reviewed by the District and selected candidates will be invited to participate in an Assessment Center consisting of a written examination, a physical agility assessment, a medical skills scenario, and an interview. Passing scores or successful completion must be achieved on each element before proceeding to the next element of the assessment center.

Edition Current edition Paramedic Texts (Brady, Mosby, Paramedic Care, etc.)

and current 2020 American Heart Association (AHA), BLS, ACLSGuidelines.

National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic(NREMTP) and AHA Practical Skills Sheets.
