well and represented Galston High School beautifully. The Sydney North Team placed second in a very competitive division. It was also fantastic to see the Division A compete and awards were presented to athletes who had competed for more than 5 years in a row and included 6 Year 12 students.

Well done to the girls, such a great day to be part of.

Science & Agriculture Faculty Focus...

We all think we know how our bodies are put together. If you were asked to list the organs of the digestive systems, I'm sure you would be able to list most, if not all, of them. If you were asked to indicate where your heart sits in your body, you would ball up your fist and place it slightly to the left of center on your chest. But the reality of how you fit together is so much more interesting and intricate than you can possible imagine. So rather than trying to imagine it, the Science faculty took 60 iron-stomached Year 10 and 11 students to the Real Bodies Exhibition at the Byron Kennedy Hall in the Entertainment Quarter. The Real Bodies Exhibition displays 20 real, perfectly preserved human bodies and over 200 anatomical specimens. In addition to learning about how these bodies have been preserved, students were able to see how different parts of the human body function together to allow us to breath, eat, reproduce and move through our environment. Each one of the 20 whole body specimens was dissected in a different way to demonstrate the interactions between the different systems. The circulatory exhibit was particularly striking. In this exhibit, a red plastic resin has been injected through the arteries of different organs and allowed to harden. Once hardened, the flesh was dissolved, leaving a road map of bright red vessels. While there were a few white faces at different stages during the exhibit, all the students who attended the exhibition said it was a unique and “awesome” experience. As a nice little side note, a member of the public who was also visiting the exhibition sort out the teachers on the excursion to say how lovely, polite and well behaved our students were. All in all, it was an unreal day at the Real Bodies Exhibition.
