Arts Alive Choral Concert What an absolute pleasure it was to watch our Senior Choir perform last Thursday night at the Arts Alive Choral Concert at the Sydney Opera House. Thank you to Mrs Bolger and Miss Mahony for all of their hard work throughout the year in the lead up to the event, as well as on the day and night of the performance.

Thank you to the parents and family members who attended and have supported this wonderful opportunity for their children. Our city is quite breathtaking at night and what a great memory for these students to walk along the foreshore and into the iconic Sydney Opera House to perform, a memory that I hope stays with them forever.

Well done boys and girls! Murals

A big thank you to Inspirations Paint, Dural for donating 4L of primer, 4L of gloss and a bunch of paint brushes and paint trays. A big thank you to Bunnings, Dural for donating 20L of primer.

Our Hall, Aboriginal and Hand Print Murals are coming along well. Thank you to the parents (and grandparents) who have been priming the Library wall ready for the Hand Print Mural. Bushfire Preparation & Planning - Old Towel Donations Needed Our designated on-site evacuation point in case of bushfire is the school hall. We need to block the areas around the large door with towels to prevent as much smoke as possible from entering the building. We are seeking donations of old towels that we can use for this purpose. If you have an old towel that you can donate, please send it in to the school office. Thank you. Seesaw I hope that many of you are enjoying the opportunity to view and possibly comment on some of the work your child has been doing in class via the Seesaw app. If you have not yet had the opportunity to download the app, I encourage you to do so and share some of your child’s learning experiences. If you have misplaced the note with

the instructions on how to download the app, please let your child’s teacher know and they will print you another copy. Selective High School Application Selective high schools cater for high achieving academically gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Applications for selective high school placement are considered mainly on the basis of the Selective High School Placement Test results and school assessment scores. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 14th March 2019.

The applications must be made online between 9th October 2018 and 12th November 2018. Late applications will not be accepted. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address). Detailed instructions on how to apply online are available at:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7 The Partners In Learning Parent Feedback Survey This term, our school is once again participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

The survey contributes to our understanding of parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home, and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour.

The survey is conducted entirely online, will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey is open between 27th August and 26th October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary; your responses are very much appreciated. We had 28 responses to the Partners in Learning Parent Feedback Survey in 2016 and 40 in 2017. We hope to continue to build on the response rate this year. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

The survey can be accessed at: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/galston2018 Happy Holidays Term 3 has been a very productive and interesting term. On behalf of the entire Galston Public School staff, I wish the boys and girls a safe and restful holiday. We hope that you are able to spend some quality time together as a family, enjoy the Spring weather and we look forward to our students returning refreshed and ready for Term 4.

News From 2-3P What? Week 10 already? That is absolutely unreal! As always, we in 2-3P have been very busy bees in Term 3! In English, our class has been learning all about Informative writing. We have read a variety of fascinating books and have conducted our own research on the harbour bridge, green turtles, sharks, rocks and gemstones, drought, dinosaurs and the tyrannosaurus rex – all by independently using the computers and iPads. We have also immensely enjoyed experimenting with measuring techniques, using a trundle wheel to measure the distance between our classroom and different areas of the school. For those of us in Year 2, we have been learning to measure the length of different objects in metres and centimetres and choosing the correct operation to solve some tricky addition and subtraction word problems. As for the Year 3 students in 2-3P, we have been continuing to rote learn our 3 times and 4 times tables, where we are excelling day by day, as well as solving 3-digit subtraction algorithms with trading! In Geography, we have been investigating the characteristics of our amazing country, Australia, as well as learning some intriguing facts about China. It has been incredibly interesting to learn about the similarities and differences between both of these countries.

In Creative Arts, we managed to let our inner artists shine by painting colourful rocks, which we prepared as wonderful gifts for our dads for Father’s Day. Our dads were so proud of their gifts! For Drama, 2-3P has been role playing stories and have thoroughly entertained Mrs Pendharkar with our marvellous acting talent. Our class also have pen pals from another 2-3 composite class at Barraba Public School in New South Wales. We have written to the students and are eagerly awaiting their reply. We are looking forward to the holidays and wish everyone a safe and enjoyable break!

Geeta Pendharkar – 2-3P P&C News Arts Alive Choral Concert I had the privilege of attending the Sydney Opera House last Thursday evening to watch not only Galston Public School, but some other wonderful schools from the North Shore, Northern Beaches and surrounds perform both with choir and band. It was a fantastic evening and it was such a joy to see such talented students as we all have. A special thanks to Mrs Bolger for her efforts over the whole year in preparing our students for this event, and thanks also to Miss Mahony for her valuable assistance. Happy Holidays On behalf of the P&C Committee I would like to wish all our families a wonderful spring school holidays. Relax, have fun and stay safe and we will see you back in Term 4.
