I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

We are now in the final days of preparing for the great Feast of Christmas. In light of everything happening this week I thought it might be helpful to share with you a few housekeeping details. First, please note that confessions will be heard today (Sunday) from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. During the week, confessions will be heard on Monday and Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm and again on Wednesday at 1:00 pm. Multiple priests will be available so as to avoid long lines. Celebrating the

Sacrament of Reconciliation and experiencing the mercy of God is a powerful way to prepare for the birth of Our Lord.

During Bishop Daly’s installation, we were able to maximize seating capacity by filling the center aisle in the east transept with folding chairs and re-configuring the chairs in the west transept. We will do the same for the Christmas Masses - especially the children’s Mass at 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve. I expect we will be able to put at least 100 more people in folding chairs. Please note, however, that despite this increased seating availability it will still be important to arrive early.

I would also like you to know that we are in contact with law enforcement about providing security during the Christmas Masses. It seems wise to have someone keep an eye on your unattended cars parked throughout the neighborhood. Moreover, there is comfort in knowing that an officer is on site prepared to address any potential problems arising from too much Christmas cheer.

Finally, I would encourage you to invite someone to “come home” for Christmas. The beauty and power of our liturgies have the potential to open people’s hearts to the love of Jesus Christ and the Church which he founded. Invite a neighbor, a friend, or perhaps a family member who has not been too active lately and then simply entrust them all to the transformative power of our new born Prince of Peace.

Altar Society

The January envelope packet contains a purple envelope that is your opportunity to suppor t and join the Cathedral Altar Society.

This is the Cathedral’s oldest, continuing organization and it sponsors community building events, fundraisers, and opportunities for spiritual growth. Money that is donated throughout the year to the Altar Society is given back to the parish for fresh flowers on the altars of the Cathedral and other special projects that are planned for the church. Everyone may join and help with the organized events of the Altar Society, or you may simply support the Altar Society with your membership envelope and receive the benefits of having a monthly Mass that is celebrated for the members on meeting days.

St. Nick

Please join our parish communities at Cataldo Catholic School’s An Evening with St. Nick event in the school gym on Monday, December 21st

at 5:30 pm. This is an event for the whole family! Come sit at one of our “gathering tables” to string garland and put together ornaments to decorate our community tree, which will be placed by Catholic Charities after our event. Enjoy a cup of Christmas tea or hot cocoa while you help children make cards to be delivered to the Veteran’s Home. The young and young-at-heart will enjoy Santa’s arrival, lighting of our tree, and reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas as we remember our American customs all began with St. Nicholas whose faithfulness and devotion led to extraordinary acts of kindness and generosity.
