Performance NotesAt the start, I wanted to compose a refrain that was easy to sing and, at the same time, triumphant incharacter. Thus, the melody of the refrain is almost entirely in step-wise motion, slowly building up to apeak three-quarters of the way through. I left the verses to the cantor and the choir, thereby providing theassembly opportunities to “look up” and observe the ritual action of the procession and the gatheredassembly. I also included an optional sprinkling rite verse that can be sung in place of the fourth verseduring the opening rites. A full score arrangement of this piece is available.
