The Good News

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

Thoughts from Tom Decades ago, someone described the church as “a little company of people on a side street, singing ditties about heaven.” While those words were surely intended to be heard as harsh criticism, I confess to being somewhat flattered by the notion being voiced: the church, a community of ordinary people whose value is not found in their numbers, nor in their supposed influence, continue to endure while “singing” of hope and promise for all God’s people. You will find in this newsletter ample evidence of our desire to be faithful servants. United in faith, occasionally strong and confident yet often wondering and questioning, we pause to celebrate Easter and to focus our thoughts on things that are eternal. Conscious of our weaknesses and trusting God’s providence, we envision new ways of being church. While giving attention to a variety of programs, we remember that the gospel does not compel us toward a numbers crunching, stress-inducing assessment of our worth as God’s children. In this continuing Easter season, may we be united in our determination to be at peace in God’s presence and at work in God’s world. Thanks be to God! Shalom, Tom

April 8, 2015 The Good News Here We Gather as God’s People

Youth News Camp Registration time is here!

Summer camp registration has opened! If you are planning on going to any camp this summer, I would suggest that you register for it as soon as possible on the Disciples Crossing website (Disciplescrossing.org) because the sooner you register, the better the price break you will receive for the price of attending. Early bird prices close April 15th. And for all our youth attending Chi Rho camp, Caleb will be attending Chi Rho 2.

Youth Sunday Youth Sunday, the Sunday where the youth lead both services in worship, is fast approaching. This year it will be on May 17th. We will begin planning for the service on April 29th.

YOUNG ADULT GET-TOGETHER The Young Adult group will be meeting again this Sunday, April 12 at 5 PM at Stumpy’s Grill on 144. We’ll share food and fellowship, along with a brief devotional, and we’ll continue our discussion around the shape of our ministry together. All 20- and 30-somethings are welcome, and dinner will be on the church this time around. Hope to see you there – and bring friends! Justin

Thank You!! Thank you to everyone who made our children’s and family events successful. From the Palm Sunday parade, to the Walk With Jesus, candy donations, Easter Egg Hunt, story time and so much more. You have made a wonderful difference in the life of young people. Tiffany

April 8, 2015 The Good News Were You There

Maundy Thursday Service

The story was told by those who were there.

The Elders’ stoles formed our cross.

Candles were put out after telling their story.

Mary was the last to speak of her son and her feelings.

As each candle was

extinguished the lights were

dimmed.
