Principal’s Message Thank you Bangor Community
I would like to thank the Bangor community for all of their support during
2018. Together we provided so many opportunities for our students in
academic areas, performing arts and on the sporting fields. Our numbers
continue to steadily grow and I am looking forward to seeing students and
their families return after the break. 2019 classes have been formed and
very thorough handovers are taking place so student’s new teachers have as
much information as possible on their academic progress and individual
needs. I hope all of our students and their families have a wonderful
Christmas break and are able to spend some quality time together. Students
in Years 1-6 will return to school on Wednesday January 30. The Uniform
Shop will be open on Tuesday January 29 from 9.30am to 10.30am for
parents to purchase new and used uniforms. Our 99 new Kinders will start on
Monday 4 February after they have completed their best start assessments. Year 6
The end of the year can be a sad time as we say goodbye to our Year 6
students and some Bangor families that have had a long association with our
school. Year 6 had a great time last week at Club Central for their farewell
dinner. Lots of Year 6 parents generously gave up their time to help run the
night and make it such a success. I would like to wish each and every Year 6
student all the best as they leave primary school and begin a very exciting
time in their lives as they start high school. Parents are most welcome to
attend our Year 6 ‘clap out’ on the last day at 3pm where the whole school
will form an arch for our Year 6 students to walk through. Canteen
Tomorrow is the last day that the canteen will be
taking lunch orders. On Monday, students will
only be able to purchase over the counter. Lucas Heights Community School
Scholarship
Congratulations to Courtney 6P who has been
awarded a scholarship to the value of $500 from

Our last disco for 2018 was attended by
approximately 270 of our students who put on their
dancing shoes and grooved along to the sounds and
tunes from our DJ. It was great to see so many kids
who dressed up in the Hawaiian theme. We were
successful in raising $1659.50.
A big thank you to all our teachers and staff who
gave up their personal time to come along, supervise
and ensure the students were safe and enjoying
themselves. We really appreciate our energetic
parent helpers for assisting throughout the evening
with supervision and food/drink sales. We would also
like to extend our thanks to Daryl who assisted with
the set up and Maria who assisted with cleaning.
Always a big thank you to the disco committee who
work tirelessly behind the scenes, couldn’t do it
without you.
We look forward to seeing you all at our next disco in
2019.

Looking for Christmas present ideas?
Kristi Gomm, one of our parents has
written and illustrated a children’s
book that would be a great Christmas
gift for children aged 2-8 years.
It is a rhyming book about a
GIGANTIC pair of underpants and
discovering the many funny places
that underpants don’t belong.
A humorous story that will have your
little one in fits of laughter trying to
solve the mystery of who owns this
gigantic pair and how they became so
gigantic.
Some of the students, Georgia 6P,
Alana 6P and Jemima 4G have had a
few of their illustrations included in
the book.
If you would like to order a
copy at $19.95 please fill out
the order form below and
submit to the office before
Monday 17 December.
No payment required until
delivery.

2019 CANTEEN ROSTER
We are getting to that time of year where we are going to lose some wonderful volunteers because their
children are heading to High School. I am now in the process of finalising the roster for canteen volunteers
for 2019. There are still a few days with no volunteers or a limited number of volunteers.
If you are able to spare some time (9:30am to 12:00pm) on a regular basis, or even on a casual basis, your help
would be greatly appreciated. Bring a friend or come and meet some other mums, dads or grandparents, from
around the school.
Please indicate on the form below which day suits you and I will be as accommodating as possible. If you are a
current volunteer and wish to return again next year, please indicate this on the form below as well.

2019 SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Students going into Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (in 2019) only, and those going into Year 2 (in 2019) and turning 8 years of age during 2019 who can swim 50 metres unassisted.
On Friday 15 February 2019, our school swimming carnival will be held at Engadine Swimming Pool.
Students will need to be at school by 8.30am to ensure their names are marked off class rolls before boarding
buses. The total cost for bus and entry into the pool will be $14.00.
Students must apply a minimum 30+ broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen to exposed skin before coming
to school and reapply it during the day as directed by the manufacturer. Students also need to bring a hat, T-
shirt, something to sit on, their lunch and a drink. Plenty of water is essential, particularly if the day is hot.
They may also like to bring a book or quiet games such as cards to play with. Please note electronic devices
such as Game Boys, iPods and mobile phones are not to be brought to the carnival. Parents are most welcome
to attend as spectators, paying an entry fee, but should enter the pool either before or after the arrival of
our students.
Please ensure asthmatic students bring sufficient medication for the day. Students are expected to sit in
their allocated house areas not with their parents. The canteen will be available for the purchase of items and
we have hired the small pool to allow children to participate in novelty events.
STUDENTS MAY WEAR THEIR HOUSE SHIRT OR SPORTS UNIFORM TO AND FROM THE POOL. House colours are:
Sapphire Blue Ruby Red Emerald Green Diamond White
Please do not bring crepe paper or streamers to the pool as the dye comes out and pool management does
not allow them to be used.
Please note that due to time restraints imposed on us by the bus company and to be in line with the way Zone
and Area Carnivals are conducted, the Swimming Carnival will have timed finals in the following events:
Boy/Girl 100m Freestyle
Boy/Girl Breaststroke
Boy/Girl Backstroke
Boy/Girl Butterfly
Boy/Girl 200m Medley
Students competing in the medley events must submit times before Monday 4 February 2019 to the school
office. The seven fastest competitors will swim in this event.
Please complete the swimming competency survey. It is imperative that your child’s swimming ability is
accurately conveyed to us. All students will need to wear coloured bands to help identify them whilst
they are in the water.
TIMEKEEPING ASSISTANCE I am willing to assist with timekeeping.
