Probably the most extensive damage has been done in November at the Via Sonoma Trail pool.

Plan your trip and give the itinerary with emergency phone numbers to a trusted friend or neighbor.Do not hide house keys in mailboxes, planters or under doormats. Place identification tags on the inside and outside of your luggage. Use your first initial and last name only.Install good locks on your doors and windows and be sure to use them.Make sure all valuable are engraved with your driver’s license number and expiration date.

REPoRt a CRiMEIf you know a crime is happening, or suspect that something is

suspicious or dangerous is going on, or even if potential trouble exists, do the following:

Make an assumption if it is an EMERGENCY: an emergency requires IMMEDiatE Police, or Sheriff, Fire and /or Paramedic response. iMMEDiatELY call 911

If the situation is ROUTINE, then do not tie up the emergency lines. Call the regular number of your local law enforcement agency. Unsure ?Call 911

The first 4 things you need to know to report a crime. HoW and WHY are very important, but many times you don’t know these answers. When calling, here is what to provide, and what you maybe asked:

FiRSt: You will be asked what is your emergency? Police, Fire or Medical? What is your location, your name and phone number? Are you in danger?

WHat is happening. Try to be as calm and specific as possible.WHat is needed. Police, Sheriff, Fire Department, Paramedics?

WHEN is it happening, Is it now? How long ago did it occur?WHERE is it happening. Give the specific address and

directions.WHo is involved? Quick description of the victims and

perpetrators need to be communicated.Be as specific and factual as possible in answering them. Follow any

instructions given you. Your police department appreciates you acting on behalf of them. Sometimes your are suspicions are unfounded. As a Neighborhood Watch Participant, two jobs are involved. It is up to you to provide your local law enforcement agency with your suspicions. It is up to your law enforcement agency to investigate your suspicions. You may occasionally be wrong, but your local law enforcement agency will not be made at you. CaLL tHEM aNY tiME your suspicions are aroused. They are on the job 24 hours a day. DoN’t HESitatE-CaLL!!!!!!!

Phoning in the emergency or routine call is the FiRSt StEP in rendering assistance and helping to stop crime.

Recently there have been several thefts and vandalism in the neighborhood. Reports of people entering unlocked open garages is on the rise, Christmas lights being cut, and bikes being stolen.

When Officer Wright visited with the Neighborhood Watch members last summer one thing she repeated – Target Hardening.

Don’t make it yourself a target. Lock your car doors, take your valuables in, and close your garage doors. When you go on vacation, remember to stop your paper (or have a neighbor pick it up).

Officer Wright also re-enforced. It’s ok to be suspicious of strangers coming to the door.

Recently, a fellow knocked on my door. He said he was in the neighborhood working for on one of my neighbor’s homes installing an alarm system. He wanted to know if I had one and if it was monitored. I am not sure which made me more nervous, the fact that I was home alone and had actually opened my door to a total stranger, or the fact that he was in jeans and a T-shirt (and not having any company identifying information on him).

Another incident was reported where a man knocked on a homeowner’s door saying that the homeowner’s vehicle had the windshield smashed. Lucky the female homeowner didn’t go right out with the gentlemen, she called the police. Later, when she did go outside her car was fine.

Also on the rise are incidents of vandalism to the community pools. Late in the summer some teens were caught after they had poured blue paint into the Barefoot Pool, more recently graffiti and damage to the bathrooms at the Via Sonoma Pool. Because of this, the pools are CLOSED until April 1. During this time repairs, winterization and much needed upgrades to the security cameras will be done. Anyone entering the pool area will be considered trespassing and the Board will take all necessary actions to punish for that offence.

The following are incident reports sent to the Neighborhood Watch. If you have signed up for the Neighborhood E-Blast you have seen these before. Dec 6 (Paradise Ridge) North side of neighborhood: 2 teenagers on bikes entered homeowners garage. Both kids ended up leaving their bikes there. The police came out and took a report, and took the bikes with them.

Dec 6 (midnight) North side of neighborhood) suspicious car (Maroon Ford Expedition) driving around police were called and took report.

Dec 9 Received a report that Christmas light wire had been cut.

I came across Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl on the Amazon Editor’s Picks of the top 100 books of 2009…with what appeared to be an intriguing plot and a gorgeous book cover, I thought I couldn’t go wrong.

I was wrong. This young adult book is about a small town and a teenage boy, Ethan, who is stuck in it. The town is pretty stereotypical—nothing changes, people are narrow minded and everyone knows everyone else’s business.

It seems that ever since his mom’s death, Ethan’s dreams are filled with a strange girl whom he is trying to save but is unsuccessful. In comes Lena, the girl whom Ethan has been dreaming about and who is a supernatural being, along with her hermit uncle and bizarre family.

During the Civil War, a curse was cast, which will directly affect Lena on her sixteenth birthday. The countdown begins as Ethan and Lena together try to save Lena’s future. Does Ethan save Lena? I won’t

divulge the end, but I will say that all of the effort is fruitless (not necessarily the outcome, mind you, but the effort, like the continual skipping of school to research a book that they think will have the answers they need to reverse the curse. Not the best example for our young adult audience).

Even with curses, sci-fi details and an introduction to the vocabulary of the supernatural (Caster, Natural, Witches, Spells…), the book is full of fluff and is a complete disappointment. This book doesn’t even compare to the Twilight series.
