Took place from 1804 to 1814
At this time the empire was the dominant power of much of continental Europe.

Highs and Lows
At the empires height in 1812, the empire possessed 130 departments, ruled over 44 million subjects and had military presence in Germany, Italy and Spain.
French loss during the Peninsula War made the empire weak and eventually fell.
The empire was restored for a brief term called The Hundred Days during 1815, until Napoleon’s defeat at the Battle of Waterloo.
