It is time once again for our
annual hunt test, scheduled for
April 27th and 28th. Again we
will join with the TarTan Gordon
Setter Club to hold 4 tests in one
weekend. The judges are all lined
up, the birds have been ordered
and the kitchen coordinator is
busy making plans. Our breed
was bred to find upland game
birds, point them out to the
hunter and then “set”. That is,
get down low to the ground to
allow the hunter to throw a net
over the covey of birds. If you
have never seen your dog find a
bird and go on point you will be
truly amazed. Come out and
spend the day with our dogs,
good friends and good food. If
you would like to help we would
love to show you the ins and outs
of hunt tests. If you are a little
uncertain of what you can
do to help just come down
and watch. We can show
you how to perform the
various things that need to
be done and you can see
just how incredible our
dogs can be. Enter your
dog and see how it all
works. You will be amazed
and there will be many experi-
enced people to give you pointers
and explain the finer points of
hunting. For those who are un-
comfortable with the birds or the
idea of hunting in general rest
assured the birds fly away at the
Junior level and neither you or
your dog have to touch them.
We will have food available
from early morning until about
2pm. Please donate something to
the kitchen. Caren is coordinat-

Winter Wags Jan 27, 2013
On January 27th we met for a fun day at the Silver City Training Center where Kara
Firnrohr , Certified Professional Dog Trainer
CPDT-KA presented a program on the AKC’s
Canine Good Citizen program and Cassia
Burris, Professional Trainer and Behaviorist,
presented a scenting workshop. Both work-
shops were participatory and great fun. Even
better, two dogs were deemed ready for testing
and successfully completed the requirements
for their CDC title. Way to Go! Good food
completed a fun and informative winter’s day
spent with good friends.

On December 2 ISCNE gathered at the Westford Regency to celebrate the holidays. The
venue was chosen in order that we could honor and thank long-time member Virginia
Sprong who has generously supported ISCNE through the years. Virginia attended accom-
panied by her companion Zee, both of whom seemed to enjoy the day. Festive table dec-
orations, a small tree and holiday music filled the background as we had Hors d’oeuvers
and a lovely luncheon finished by a peppermint holly cake. Following luncheon the tradi-
tional Yankee Swap was held. A grand time was had by all.

with an interactive session, demonstrating
some techniques to dogs and their handlers.
A very informative program

October 23, 2012
Dear Claire,
Yesterday, in brilliant sunshine and bright fall
colors, sitting in our front yard, Sage in my
arms, she left her body. Her
Comforting, loving spirit remains vividly in my
heart, and will forever.
I thank you again for the most precious gift I have
ever received.
It was an honor to watch Sage grow and thrive,
and to learn from her. I cherished her presence in
my life. Thank you and Rescue for giving her the
chance to know the love and valuing she deserved.
My arms will always be around her.
Joan and Sage
Thank you to Joan for giving Sage the wonder-ful home she deserved.
Usually rescue can be a very rewarding experience. I wanted to share a couple of those hugely successful stories with eve-ryone.
First I think some of you know Sage. The first time I saw Sage she crawled into an obedience class on her stomach. She was so terrified to be some new place she wouldn't even stand up. The couple who had her knew she was completely un-socialized but had no idea how to cope. She came to the entire six week class and improved, but any new situation would have her on the floor again. The people came to a couple of sessions and a few months later called me to place her. They were moving to Florida and didn't think she'd adjust to a new area.
I knew she would be a hard dog to
place. Enter Joan Huber who was looking for a companion to her older dog. I took Sage down to Joan’s and they all connect-ed immediately. Joan is a very patient loving person, who spends a lot of time with her dogs. She is very soft spoken and really seemed to understand Sage.
Time passed and I kept in touch with Joan. A few years later I saw Sage at an Irish Festival and hardly recognized her! She pranced along in a big crowd of people with her head held high.... her tail was up and she looked like a show dog!! It almost brought tears to my eyes.....what a beautiful dog she was!
Thank you to Joan who truly gave Sage the wonderful home she de-served
keep a few surprises till the end! This is
ONE ISCNE Specialty you won’t want to
miss!
On May 31, 2013, Irish Setters from all
over New England, and regions near and
far, will gather together to mark an un-
heard of celebration in the world of dogs:
The 85th ANNUAL Specialty Show of
the Irish Setter Club of New England.
The distinction of being the oldest Irish
Setter Club in the United States can be
held by one club, and one club only; your
club, The Irish Setter Club of New Eng-
land! This distinction has many benefits
as well as its responsibilities. So on Fri-
day May 31, 2013, we will gather together
to celebrate this grand old club, ISCNE,
as only its special members can do! We
have lots in store for you to mark this mo-
mentous occasion. We invite you to come
and join us in Celebration. We will mark
this occasion with the new 4mo-under
6mo puppy classes, some amazing com-
memorative trophies, stylish ribbons, nev-
er seen before Auction Items, Luncheon
under the Tent, a Commemorative ISCNE
Catalog (limited edition) and our ever fa-
mous New England Lobster Dinner after
the show. If that isn’t enough, we always
