MARANA HEALTH CARE FOUNDATION
Two thank you letters have recently been received from the Marana Health
Care Foundation to the Women’s Health Issues Luncheon committee that
held the silent auction on February 13 in conjunction with the program on
“Memory- Keeping our Brains Sharp.”
Mr. Clint Kuntz, CEO thanks us for raising $4800 to help support MHC Healthcare.
“We are so grateful for your thoughtful gift and please rest assured that this contribution will
make a difference in the lives of children, individuals, and families throughout our
community. Your contributions will support Behavioral Health Programming including:
Creativity Group and ART Awakenings
Wellness & Recovery
Adolescent Substance Abuse
Parenting training
Thank you for investing in MHC Healthcare.”
A second letter from Becky Holton, Director of Development MHC reiterates the above
ideas adding, “We feel fortunate that as the community continues to invest in our organiza-
tion, we can continue to expand and grow our services to care for a new generation.”
Many thanks to all who contributed to raise the $4800 in about one and a half hours: the out-
side vendors who donated to the silent auction, our community artists, photographers, and
jewelry makers, all the ladies who attended the luncheon, all those who bought items at the
auction, to all those who donated directly to the MHC foundation, and to the committee who
worked so hard to make it possible.

ROTARY CLUB
Highlands' support helps
Rotary assist local kids
The Rotary Club of Marana Dove
Mountain wishes to thank residents of
The Highlands for their generous support of the recent "Fiesta
Rotaria" fundraising dinner and auction.
The event proceeds of more than $17,600 will allow Rotarians
to continue their projects on behalf of local youth. Among
those projects are four college scholarships for local graduates,
weekend nutrition packs for under-nourished school children,
and a free dictionary for each third grader in five elementary
schools.
In addition to attending the event and participating in raffle and
silent and live auctions, many Highlands residents also donated
auction items. The Dove Mountain club, which meets at 7 a.m.
Thursdays in the Catalina Rooms, is marking nine years since
its founding.

Farewell to the Highlands Chorale
All things run their course, and this is true even for the best of
endeavors. The Highlands Chorale came into being in 2003 and
has now completed its 12th year, providing Christmas and Spring
concerts for the community. Director, Pat Kaltenberger, led the
group for all but two seasons when Bill Darnell took over to
keep the music going.
At times as many as 40 plus voices sang, giving of their time
and energy every Monday evening for rehearsals. Of late the
numbers have dwindled. It has been difficult to recruit new
members and there has been no regular accompanist. We have
lost some singers as they move away or pass on. These factors
along with the toll that time and age has taken on all members’
energy, eyesight and hearing brought the decision that it is time
to stop and take a well-deserved break. There may be future
opportunities for music and singing, but for now the Chorale has
sung their last concert.
Pat and all the Chorale members want you to know that it has
been a delight to perform for the community. We have enjoyed
the fellowship and the opportunity to sing together on a regular
basis. We appreciate the support we have received from the
community by the large attendance at our concerts and the finan-
cial contributions we have received.
And now to quote from a song* we sang at April’s concert:
We’re…
“…so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh or
sing a song. Seems we just get started and before you know it,
comes the time we have to say---so long. So lo-ong.”

REIKI LEVEL I TRAINING
Saturday, May 9, 2015 12:00 – 5:00 pm
Reiki Is For YOU!...Not Just for Those in Healing Pro-
fessions Start your new year off right energetically by join-
ing us to learn to raise your energetic frequency and bring
wellness into your everyday life and to loved ones (pets in-
cluded!) . You will learn to work on the physical, mental
and emotional levels. Reiki will help increase your intui-
tion and capacity to hold and work with energy.
Medical science has conducted studies and recognizes Reiki
as very beneficial in enhancing the immune system, lower-
ing blood pressure and heart rate, increasing the efficiency
of medications, reducing levels of pain, and allowing for
relaxation so the body can more readily return to its natural
state of well being. It is offered to patients at UAMC under
a contracted program and provided by Casa de la Luz Hos-
pice. Many people easily meditate after learning Reiki
when they could never achieve that state before.
The fee for Level I is $100. To register or for more infor-
mation and upcoming classes, contact Judy Ferrig, M.S.,
Reiki Master-Teacher at (520) 245-4214 or
[email protected]. I offer CE hours.
GRAPEVINE
GRAZERS
April concluded our first
season of the new venue
"Grapevine Grazers". The
group replaced "Easy Dining" which had been active for
over 15 years. "Grapevine Grazers" will start again on
October 27. Mark your calendar for the last Tuesday of
every month (except December) so you won't miss these fun
and easy evenings. The guests brings their own drinks and a
heavy appetizer to serve 10-14 guest. The hosts provides
the home, an appetizer, and a plate of sweets for their
guests. Everyone likes the new venue as it is much easier to
host and more casual. Paper and plastic work fine!
Most of the communicating is done by email now through
[email protected]. You can send any
questions or comments to that address. Have a great
summer! Happy Grazing! Mary George (8334-3383),
Susan Dufenhorst (503-752-977) or Kathy Grogan
(505-4192).

grandchildren. Loaned equipment is available for a limit of 4
weeks. To borrow or loan equipment contact Judy Poffenberger
at [email protected] or Ann Freeman at [email protected].

The temperature is rising and the sun is shining brighter
each day but there are still Highlands residents that need a
little extra sunshine. If you know of a Highlands resident
that is having surgery, ill, suffering a loss in the family or
simply needs a boost, send an email to Ann Freeman at
[email protected] with the resident’s name and situa-
tion and a card will be sent from The Highlands HOA.
Without your help someone may not receive that little boost
that they really need.
We meet the first and third Wednesday evenings of each
month in the Crafts Room at the Clubhouse at 7:00 pm.
The group is studying Ephesians, Chapter 4 this month.
The apostle Paul is describing the fundamental nature and
purpose of the
Christian Church.

LADY NINER’S NEWS
Busy March! Fairly Quiet April. The An-
nual Meeting/End of the Year Party and
the election of the new Board of Direc-
tors for the Lady Niners was held March
31. Darlene Ogan and her committee did
a great job with appetizers, prizes, and a
fun game brought to us by Nita Fox, called: “Three Clubs”. The
winner of the game was Mary Zimmerman, with Bobbi Wise-
man and Carol Airoldi coming in second! Great fun! Obviously
we have too many clubs in our bags if we could play decently
with only three!
The New BOD are: Toni Ernst, President, Gail Hodder, VP/
President Elect, Margi McKay-Green, Secretary, Linda Hefele,
Treasurer. Nita Fox, Darlene Ogan, and Pepper Walsh are
members at Large. They have a great schedule of events for the
coming year, and will be planning for our enjoyment!
The Ringer Board awards for were given to Diane Vanderwerf
for the Front 9, and to Linda Hefele for the Back 9.
Congratulations Improved Golfers!!!!
Chip-ins for March were Carol Rutkowski, Diane Vanderwerf,
and Kathy Lindberg.
There were still several Niners golfing in May before leaving us
for “back home”. The “rounders” look forward to playing early
in the mornings in May, and escaping heat waves later in the
summer. We all look forward to a busy and fun year of golf be-
ginning with the first day of official play October 20,2015.

ENERGY WORK IS LIFE ENHANCING
Reiki is the most medically documented complementary health healing
modality. Highlands resident Judy Ferrig, M.S., is a Reiki Master/
Teacher, utilizes her training in many energy modalities and the fre-
quencies of color, sound and crystals to enhance results to help you be
well on all levels . She employs her skills to clear chakras and auras,
using techniques such as journeying, past life work, akashic records,
visioning, acupressure points, and guides to enable clients to develop
intuition and replace limiting beliefs that block abundance and wellbe-
ing. Judy clears home and work spaces to optimize environments.
Her work is effective for healing and addressing wellness and behavior
issues with pets as well. [email protected] (520) 245-4214.
