USED/BROKEN EYEGLASS JOINT

ROTARY/LIONS CLUB PROJECT

We are partnering with the

Antelope Lions Club to

collect used/broken

eyeglasses.

At our weekly meetings, we

have a BIG BOX at the front of our meeting

room for Rotarians to deposit their unwanted

glasses.

Members of the Rotary Club Foothill-

Highlands started gathering on this chilly

Monday morning at Freedom Park in North

Highlands around 11:50 a.m. to attend the

dedication of the Rotary park bench.

Due to the venue and circumstances of today’s

special meeting, we dispensed with the usual

format of a regular Monday meeting.

E-Waste4Good Program Just a reminder! President Dominic has

advised the club will no longer get credit for

large appliances, i.e. refrigerators, washers/

dryers, stoves, etc. donated to our e-

Waste4Good program. They will still pick

them up but we will not receive any

compensation. If it has a cord and can fit in

your trunk, it’s good to go and we get $$$.

TVs are still OK but need the name, address

and telephone number of the donor on a

sticker attached to the TV. Visitors at today’s meeting included Scott

Graham, Park and Maintenance

Superintendent and Larry Mazzuca, District

Administrator for the North Highlands Parks

and Recreation District.

ANNUAL MEETING

Our Annual Meeting to elect officers and

directors for the 2017-18 Rotary Year will take

place on Monday, December 19th at Round

Table Pizza, 7909 Walerga Road in

Antelope (adjacent to Umpqua Bank.)

PE Roland Wright could still use some

volunteers to help with various tasks during

the coming year. Please give serious thought

to lending a hand during his year as our

President.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS

WEEK’S PROGRAM

Before resigning from the Rotary Club of

Foothill-Highlands to accept a new job in the

Bay area, Community Service Director Jeff

Donlevy w as contacted by the North

Highlands Parks and Recreation District about

a possible service project at Freedom Park.

The ball started

rolling before the

end of the 2015-

16 Rotary year

and several

Rotarians

including Jeff

Donlevy, Past

Presidents

Roland

Wright,

Dominic

Mecklenburg, Maureen McBride, David

Stone and Gene Long m et at Freedom

Park and constructed a concrete pad for a

bench.

When the new Rotary year started, PE Roland

Wright and PEN Patrick Magnani picked

up the baton and kept the project on track.

Patrick w orked w ith the Park Distr ict

regarding the specifications for the bench,

Roland ordered the m aterials and

constructed the bench at Hallsten Corporation.

This morning before anyone arrived Roland and

Patrick brought the bench to the park

and bolted it into the concrete pad constructed

last summer. Several Rotarians including John

Hallsten, Joe Kaiser, Gordon Lipp, Gene

Long, Patrick Magnani, President

Dominic Mecklenburg, Bob Meyer,

Maureen McBride, Sam Morgan, Bob

Spears, David Stone and Roland

Wright attended the dedication as w ell

as Scott Graham and Larry Mazzuca from the

North Highlands Parks and Recreation

District.

Both Scott and Larry thanked Rotary for

making the bench a reality. You could tell

they were as pleased as punch. They said it

appeared to be extremely well built and was a

great addition to the park.

They said the new addition would be

especially helpful to parents whose children

use the jungle gym area. Where the bench is

situated, it would be hard for tots to get past

their parents or chaperons or wander off

without being seen.

Scott Graham and

Larry Mazzuca

Following the bench dedication and photo op,

several Rotarians headed over to the Food

Court adjacent to the Commissary on the

campus of McClellan Business Park for some

lunch and fellowship.

At the prompting of member Sam Morgan,

we all grabbed our beverage of choice and

gave a toast to Rotary Around the World.
