I have celebrated with you five National Night Out events and I am so looking forward to tonight's celebration which will be the sixth. Right before the benediction on Sunday I issued an invitation to you, members of WHUMC, to come on out and be part of the celebration. I know that some of you will be celebrating National Night Out in your own neighborhoods. If you cannot come but will attend your block party let them know that your church is actively participating and extending radical hospitality. In advance, I would like to thank Renee Brown for her work in coordinating our church's participation. Thanks also are extended to our neighborhood association for their enthusiastic support of National Night Out. It is always a joy to see our first emergency responders bring their fire engines and patrol cars. The children are always fascinated to meet our fire fighters and police. Our appreciation is also extended to Mr. Bryce Ury of Meador Dodge, located on South 820 and Campus Dr. for the delicious hot dogs he and his family cook and serve. It is truly an act of hospitality. You have heard in worship service much said about radical hospitality. That is exactly what we are trying to practice when we are the setting of a neighborhood event. One meets so many people from the neighborhood. If you have a name badge, wear it and if you need to pick it up from the badge board in the Sanctuary hallway, let me know. I will make sure you'll have your name badge to wear. It is by no coincidence that God has placed our church here on the hilltop to be a source of light for our neighborhood. I hope to see you at the National Night Out hosted by our church and the Western Hills Neighborhood Association this afternoon starting at 5 p.m. Come for a fun night of games, food, and fellowship. Let us respond to the invitation to extend hospitality to the neighbors we have from God. Raul

Hey, Youth; Hey Western Hills. We had a beautiful time on our
newly painted outdoor picnic tables in the pavilion on
Sunday evening. Everyone brought instruments and we
played several songs out of an old youth songbook using
a keyboard (thank you Noemi Perez) recorders, guitar,
an oboe, bongos, an auto harp, bells and sang (in
English and Spanish). Then we started our Song Project-
-the writing of a special youth theme song that
incorporates all the values and activities that are
important to our youth.
Last week, as many of you know, we went on a fishing
expedition--created, supplied, and cooked for by our
own Mike Elrod--and caught 3 and 1/2 fish (one got
away) without bait!! We have pictures to prove it!
Next week, we will get busy and work on our song,
lyrics and music, and get ready to perform it for you all
someday.
We will also be working on Fall Festival projects, and
for that we need HELP!! We are looking for cheap or
free pine cones. A BUNCH of them for our project. Also
artificial flowers and leaves, which I know we all have.
Bring them to church and lay them in front of the Stage
Left door or give them to me.
Thank you for your interest and support. Sincerely, Amy R. Bailey W.H.Y? Director
Hey, Western Hills!
M.A.D. Artist Society is looking for more volunteers to join us in our mission to
bring joy to those in Nursing Homes, Alzheimer's Units, and to Veterans. We are
practicing our puppeting skills and getting into the heads of our puppets (yes, their
heads are empty, but they often have their own things to say). Join us or refer a
special someone. They do not have to belong to Western Hills Church but need to be
able to meet on Monday Nights at 7:00. We accept anyone who acts like an adult, but
thinks like a kid.
