• The French Academy of Science created the Metric system because it was a necessity at the time.

• Due to exploration and arcitechual needs .

preserve the metric system.

Meter refinement 1791

The French Academy of Sciences decided in 1791 that the meter would be defined by the dimensions of the planet earth.

It used the meridian line on the equator as an example.
