St. Charles Borromeo Church December 28, 2014
The Christmas season continues this
weekend as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy
Family.
This Thursday, January 1, New Year’s Day, is also the
Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, and a holy day of
obligation. There will be a special schedule of Masses:
Wednesday, December 31, New Year’s Eve,
Please note: only one Vigil Mass at 4:00pm
Thursday, January 1, New Year’s Day:
Three Holy Day Masses at 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00Noon
You will find a January 2015 Parish Activities
Calendar in this bulletin detailing many of the events taking
place at St Charles in the next few weeks. Check the “flip side”
of that calendar for a listing of the upcoming Adult Faith
Formation Activities planned by our talented Pastoral Minister,
Brian Pelcin. Please keep that calendar in your home during the
upcoming month.
Couples engaged to be married in 2015 are reminded to
register for St Charles Pre-Cana Day scheduled for Saturday,
February 28. Also, remember to check the video screens in the church
lobbies when you come to church.
From February through June of 2012, St Charles took
part in the diocesan-wide capital campaign “Rooted in Faith—
Forward in Hope.” The diocesan goal was $125 million; but an
awesome $175 million had been pledged by the time the
campaign concluded.
St Charles parishioners pledged $1.6 million toward the
effort; the pledge campaign runs for five years. Seventy percent
of the total raised goes to meet diocesan needs; every three
months, thirty percent of the funds collected are returned directly
to St Charles. Each quarter, we deposit our share to a “Rainy
Day Fund” for needed or emergency capital improvements.
The “Rooted in Faith” effort also supplies direct grants to
parishes and schools. This year we applied for three grants, all
in the field of education. Just before Christmas we received
word—and three checks—indicating that our grant applications
had been accepted and approved:
St Charles received a $40,000 grant to replace windows in
the 1927 (Junior High) School Building. As the project
cost is expected to exceed that amount, Carnival 2015
will be asked to make up the balance;
St Charles School received a $30,000 grant to purchase
iPads for student use;
St Charles has also received a $6,200 grant to fund a study
for increasing our Catholic identity as a school.
A Big Tip of the St Charles Appreciation Hat to Day
School Principal, Eileen Updegrove, who wrote the grant
requests. Thanks to the Officers of the Catholic Foundation who
review the grant requests and make the final decisions. Thanks,
as well, to Catholics throughout the Diocese who are so generous
and faithful to their “Rooted in Faith” campaign commitments.

NORTHEAST OHIO
MEN’S FELLOWSHIP CONFERENCE
March 21st, 2015 As men, life can be stressful and exhausting, numerous eyes look
to us to be “strong” and “wise” and the pressure of them and the
responsibilities of life can often feel like too much. Therefore, I’d
like to invite you and challenge you to give Christ and the Church
one full day of your life. Saturday March 21st, 2015 is the
Northeast Ohio Men’s Fellowship Conference. This conference is
meant to provide the context where Christ can bring the true
Father’s love and life into your heart and provide that divine
energy to love those whom you are close to. Please do not shirk
the responsibility to be a man that builds a culture of life and love
instead of one of ego and isolation. For more information visit the
website www.cmfneo.com.

WORKING TO BE BETTER HUSBANDS,
FATHERS, PARISHIONERS &
COMMUNITY CITIZENS
The Knights of Columbus is a service organization of over 1.8 million members. Each are men of character and distinction who strive to act on behalf of their faith as well as their conscience. Knights put their Catholic faith into action, working together to be better husbands, fathers, parishioners and community citizens. Become a charter member and attend an Informational Meeting on Monday, January 12
th, 2015,
7:30pm, in the Borromeo Room of the Parish Activities Center. Wives are welcomed to come to this meeting for it is in the family where holy and good Knights come from, as all families strive to be like the Holy Family of Nazareth.
“NO COST” ANNULMENTS
Older folks remember that once a couple married in the
Catholic Church and lived together, the marital bond was in
place ''till death we do part." In the last forty years, the Church
has come to recognize that some marriages were just "not
right" from the beginning. When a marriage breaks up and
the civil divorce is final, marriages can be considered for a
church annulment.
Unfortunately, there are lots of rumors and poor
information when it comes to annulments: "it takes years"
or "thousands of dollars" are required. In truth, most cases are
decided within a year and the suggested marriage tribunal fee
was $450; and that fee could be waived for those in
financial difficulty. That tribunal fee did not "buy an
annulment" but it did help to pay for tribunal salaries and
expenses.
On May 30th, Bishop Lennon announced a new
policy for the Diocese of Cleveland: all annulment cases
will now be accepted and processed free of any charge. The
Diocese of Cleveland will fully subsidize the work of the
diocesan marriage tribunal. This new policy is effective
immediately.
The form of Catholic marriage is free consent given
before a priest/deacon and two witnesses. For those who
require an annulment from a former marriage, please
contact the priest/deacon of your choice and he will help you
prepare and file your casenow free of charge!
