Cub Amos returned to introduce our visitors and guests, who included PDG Frank Meier. Tom Dortch brought his Hillcrest H.S. mentee as his guest. Chris

Short announced that there were only a few Hub and web-site advertising opportunities left, and in a moment of pay-back called out PP Jim Mills to purchase one of the ads. Just for the record, PP Jim agreed to buy a web ad if

Chris bought one, too. Jim Zappfe announ-ced that PCR Connect would be postponed until September. PE Cleve asked us all to think about why we are here and what does being a Rotarian mean to me. He thanked Jon Petersen and Roger Diebel for their work in get-ting great programs and Mary McMahon for her work on Membership.

teer or employed roles in their organization. People who face grave financial difficulties also face problems of alcoholism, a history of bad health, and other problems which cannot be solved overnight. These people need an opportunity. His organization creates oppor-tunities, so people can choose to take advan-tage of the opportunity. City Square has grown dramatically in the last eighteen years. They have completed the rehab of 511 North Akard. It is three buildings, the first three floors are for retail and office space. Floors four through fourteen are apartments for low-income people, and there are five penthouse condominiums for sale on the top floor.

They are building a 3,000 square foot building at the corner of Malcolm X and I-30. It will house a health and wellness center and a food distribution center which will provide employment as well as a work training pro-gram. They will serve about a million meals this summer to kids who are out of school. Literacy Instruction for Texas and Work Force Solutions for Greater Dallas will both have space in the center to address training ser-vices. Across the street they will be building fifty single-family homes for the fifty most expensive homeless persons, those who are most involved with the jail, the emergency room, and other services. The average cost for that person on the street is $40,000. He also remarked that a shelter is only an emer-gency measure; it can never take the place of a home. He believes that the people closest to any problem know the most about it, even though they may not know the solution. [View the whole meeting at vimeo.com/channels/rotaryclubof parkcities]

THOUGHTS ON . . .

If man does find the solution for world peace it will be the most revolu-tionary reversal of his record we have ever known.

~ George C. Marshall Courage is the price that Life exacts for granting peace.

~ Amelia EarhartIf you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies. ~ Moshe DayanThose who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolu-tion inevitable. ~ John F. KennedyThe more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in war.
