In support of our clubʼs strategic initiat-ive, Park Cities Rotary will designate Novem-ber as “Feed the Hungry” month. We will be involved with two new exciting events that benefit the North Texas Food Bank and give us an opportunity to highlight the work of our various committees that support this effort.• We will be partnering with HPISD on the Kids for Turkeys event on Nov. 14th. We will help collect turkeys at each of the schools in the district. Special thanks to Dawson Orr for his help with this initiative. • On Sunday, Nov. 18th, we will be spon-soring the Snider Plaza Tree Lighting event in conjunction with the Merchants Association and the City of UP. This event

any cases of polio , India has been removed from the list of polio-endemic countries, a major milestone for the eradication effort. The declaration was made at a polio summit hosted by Rotary and the government of India in February. Before it can be certified polio-free, India must go two more years without another case.
“Rotarians have worked diligently to help reach millions of children with the oral polio vaccine. As an Indian, I am immensely proud of what Rotary has accomplished,” stated Kalyan Banerjee, 2011-12 RI president.

President Fred Brown called the meet-ing to order on this special 1+1 Guest Meeting. Mary Bishop gave the invocation, and no-ted there were no prayer requests. Pres. Fred introduced members of the Hillcrest H.S. In-teract Club. Led by President Anthony Galo, the Interact members led the Pledge of Allegi-ance. Anthony also thanked RCPC members for giving him the opportunity to attend Camp RYLA. Hoyt Neal led the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Charlotte Hudgin introduced our visitors and guests, including DG Sandy Forster, PDG Frank Meier, and ADG Mike Morath. Chris Short introduced our Hub and web advertisers for the week. He also thanked PP Jim Mills for paying for his ad – from which we deduce that Chris must have also paid up! PP Greg Pape remarked that thanks to Polio Plus, India has been free of any new cases of polio for one year. That leaves only three countries where polio has not been eradicated. He then awarded an

Honorary Paul Harris to current Chair of the District Membership Committee George Ritcheske. George declared it to be “jubilant.”
PP Greg awarded Dennis Devenport his seventh-level Paul Harris pin: Dennis is a member of the Paul Harris Soci-ety, whose members pledge a $1000 to the RI Foundation every year. Shawn Murphy introduced members of the Hillcrest H.S. faculty and members of the Interact Club who were visiting today. He
mentors were particularly needed, and that they did not have to be Rotarians. Anne Har-per presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Cynthia Daniels, the Librarian at Preston Hol-low Elementary School, especially for her creativity in planning for students.
Mary McMahon welcomed all of our guests, then turned the microphone over to Rotarian and Dallas ISD School Board Member, Mike Morath, to introduce our speaker today, Mike Miles, the new Superintendent of the Dallas ISD. He began his presentation by stating that
he believes public education to be the most important work of our time. He said that 90 percent of all children attend public schools. He said that the Dallas ISD has some of the best high schools in the
U.S., and that they have made improvements in the graduation rate, but that there are still many improvements to be made. He has iden-tified thirty-two systemic problems within the DISD. He also realizes that the educational landscape is changing, so that students need to be learning different skills. In order to make the changes needed, he believes that he has to be disruptive. There does not need to be reform, but transformation; although many traditional aspects of education must be re-tained, such as effective teachers and good principals. He believes that most teachers are not evaluated in a meaningful manner, so he wants to build in useful feedback. He is try-ing to establish clear metrics, so that educa-tors can demonstrate and measure success.

THOUGHTS ON . . .
Money was never a big motivation for me, except as a way to keep score. The real excitement is playing the game. ~ Donald TrumpI have come to the conclusion that my subjective account of my motiva-tion is largely mythical on almost all occasions. I don't know why I do things. ~ J. B. S. HaldaneThe only lifelong, reliable motivations are those that come from within, and one of the strongest of those is the joy and pride that grow from knowing that you've just done something as well as you can do it. ~ Lloyd Dobyns, Clare Crawford-MasonAbility is what you're capable of do-ing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. ~ Lou Holtz

at the town's annual 4th of July picnic. Old friends, they began their usual banter.
"This baked ham is really delicious," the priest teased the rabbi. "You really ought to try it. I know it's against your religion, but I can't understand why such a wonderful food should be forbidden! You don't know what you're missing. You just haven't lived until

The rabbi looked at the priest with a big grin, and said, "At your wedding."
