Internet -An interconnected system of networks that connects computers around the world via the TCP/IP protocol.

What is the Internet?

• “The Internet” was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. Government in 1969 and was first known as ARPAnet.

• The original aim was to create a network that would allow computers at one university to “talk to” research computers at another university.
