MARCH 20 19 Jarrett Update Encouraging Every Student to Live an Extraordinary Life Dear JMS Families, Thank you to everyone who came to Jarrett Pride Day and supported our Jarrett Middle School Foundation. A special thanks goes out to all the students, faculty and parents who helped prepare for the day as well as performed and volunteered to make the event extraordinary! Your support helps the school and Foundation partner together to provide for our students and expand their opportunities as middle schoolers. I was very proud of all those who came out for a concrete display of pride in our school. Thank you! Looking ahead, I encourage parents to push our kids during the break to continue reading for Accelerated Reader and TeenBiz, as well as get some math practice on IXL. The 4 th quarter is filled with fun year-end activities, the Aladdin Musical, and testing. We need all of our kids to be on their "A-game" to show the academic growth that our kids have made this year. It really helps us to encourage good study skills during the break and in the evenings. Also remember that we have Study Spaces available to ALL students on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays after school. Students can get help and be proactive by maintaining good grades throughout the quarter instead of waiting until the last moment to get their grades up. We will see all students back in school on Monday, March 25. Have a nice Spring Break. You may see two new benches around campus. They were donated by Punahou School and painted with inspirational sayings by Punahou and Kaimuki High School students over the winter break!

Kulia After-School All-Stars

• Yoskokaren found a phone on campus and Jeniva immediately turned it in to the front office. Thank you! Your actions and quick thinking made the phone owner very HAPPY!

• David found a lunch bag and turned it in to Ms. Berda. Ms. Berda found the student who had lost it and was really upset about it. When he was told it had been found – his attitude changed immediately. Way to go David for being caring and responsible and making that student’s day!

• Shout out to Jyrum for coming in the top 100 out of 350 competitors at the State Math Counts Competition!

• Mana took initiative to be a helpful JMS host when she tried to help a new student from South Korea translate some classwork.

• Jeniva found a student's backpack outside on the ground after the morning bell rang and delivered the bag to the student. Thank you Jeniva for being an extraordinary student!

• 8th grader Siara bought $5 worth of beef sticks for her HR peers in order to earn 5 HR Stars for 100% HR participation.

• 7th graders Kayli and Gaysorn won Best in Math Category at the Honolulu District Science Fair for their project Tiling with Spidrons.

• After our 6th grade assembly, 6th graders are being much more respectful and cordial in the halls.

• Tamar noticed her classmate had glass in her foot and reported it to the counselor. She then volunteered and helped the student to go to the health room.

*Kulia Good News* • Nalu does a great job leading stretches at Kulia sports classes. • Kulia Aladdin Musical cast and crew are working extra-ordinarily hard

at rehearsals for the big shows coming up in May 2019. • Tivanjen and Kawehi take the initiative to be helpful at Kulia program. • Mr. Au Young's 6th grade class does a great job at having their planners

completed during the Kulia Homework Hour.
