Presidents Report

Another month has passed since my last report and I am now in the third month of my year.

After a very busy month in July, August was a lot quieter. I had the pleasure of inducting

two new members during the month and am looking forward to inducting a few more in the

coming months.

Our guest speakers this month were Andrew Tillett who provided us with an insight into

being a journalist, Magdalina Bogl ,a Rotary Exchange Student who at very short notice

talked about Austria, and Jill from Goodman Law who talked about wills. Thank you to all

our guest speakers.

A couple of friendly reminders

Floriade is nearly here and one of our major fund raising events for the year is selling

Gnomes at Floriade. If you can assist, particularly over the weekend of the 20th and 21

st Sept

or any day during the ACT school holidays please let Kristin know.

The other is our Annual Polio Day Dinner and raffle. Raffle tickets are $2.00 each and there

are some great prizes again this year and dinner is $28.00 per head. Raffle tickets are

available from any member of the club and a reservation can be made for the dinner by

contacting either Kristin or myself.

On a personal note after a quick trip where we got as far as Lightning Ridge we have had to

cut our holidays short after our son fell off a ladder and broke his leg.

HOME in Queanbeyan movie fundraiser

The Soloist An unforgettable tale of hope, heart and humanity

Run time: 117 mins - Rating: PG-13 – 6pm start

ased on the book The Soloist by journalist Steve Lopez, the movie follows the true story of Nathaniel Ayers, a musical prodigy who developed schizophrenia and became homeless.

It stars Jamie Foxx as Ayers, and Robert Downey Jr as Lopez, who discovers Ayers and writes about him in the Los Angeles Times newspaper.

At first Lopez approaches Ayers as just another story idea in a city of millions. But as he begins to unearth the mystery of how this once dynamic prodigy wound up homeless, it sparks an unexpected quest.

Imagining he can change Ayers’ life, Lopez embarks on a quixotic mission to get him off the streets and back to the world of music. But even as Lopez fights to save Ayers, he begins to see that it is Ayers who is profoundly changing him.
