Phil Ruggles, Joint First Team & Player Manager

Good afternoon and welcome to Redding Way I was personally expecting us to have a few more points on the board than what we currently have but football goes that way and not always to plan. We lost to Sheerwater last week which was very disappointing, not just the result but the performance in general. We really let ourselves down and we need to put it right today and show it was a one off!!

Today we entertain Staines Lammas who seemingly have changed results for the better in the past few weeks, in which begun against us. This is a perfect opportunity for us to do the same back to them and go on a run of results ourselves and climb up the table. On Tuesday we played Cove away in the cup and came out losing 4-2 however, there was many positives from the game. Young Craig Taylor our youth team keeper came in and played very well pulling of some good saves and overall having a very good performance. It was an opportunity for a few of the fringe players to come in and show they should be more involved also. Charlie Postance and Michael Pym both got on the score sheet on the night. We kept the ball better and everyone’s work rate was improved from the Saturday lacklustre performance. We will keep pushing and more wins will come, I know the boys are buzzing for this one and want to put on a show. COYK!!! Ruggs

Tuesday 23rd October Kick Off 7.30pm Squirrel Lane Southern Combination Cup 2nd Round

Knaphill’s exit from this Cup competition came after producing a battling spirited and determined performance, especially in the second half, as they did well to force themselves back into the game after trailing by two goals in the first 25 minutes. But the final scoreline was probably a bit flattering for their Premier Division opponents in this 2nd round tie at Cove’s Squirrels Lane ground on Tuesday night. Knaphill looked quite adequate in the opening fifteen minutes with plenty of possession, but after they created a number of chances, two goals from Cove with the opener after 20 minutes followed by a second goal five minutes later, saw Knaphill step off the pace. But in the 37thminute Daryn Hennessey went close to reducing the deficit when his driving shot was tipped over by the keeper, as Knaphill continued to put some pressure on their opponents defence and after 39 minutes were rewarded whenMichael Pym stabbed the ball home close to the goalline. Five minutes into the second half Pym had what seemed an easy chance to bring Knaphill level, but his effort just rolled the wrong side of the post.Dean Pitcher had an effort just wide on the hour as Knaphill driving forward with grit and determination. The deserved equaliser came in the 65thminute when after a fine build up from Dan Cox who threaded a neat pass into the box, Pym had a half chance blocked, the ball came out to Charlie Postance who delivered a perfect strike to make it 2-2 and right back into the game. But in the 79th minute Cove scored a fortuitous goal when a slip by keeper Craig Taylor, who was produc-ing a good display of goalkeeping during the evening, saw striker Jake Baxter able to go forward and steer the ball into goal for a 3-2 lead. Still Knaphill battled to come back again, but in the 89th minute a quick break saw Alex Jeffers glide through the last line of defence and notch Cove’s fourth goal. Knaphill, despite a bit of a shaky spell in the first half, can hold their heads high, and especially their teen-age goalkeeper, for their overall performance in this Cup tie. Team:Taylor, Smith, Green, Edwards, Doble, Pitcher, Cox, Hennessey, Pym, Postance(Ruggles 78mins), Felgate. Subs Not Used: Niven, Perks, Roissetter Scorers: Pym 39mins, Postance 65mins

    Theknappers

Good afternoon everyone and a welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Staines Lammas for this quick return fixture between the two Clubs who played each other only three weeks ago at Ashford’s ground. The outcome for Knaphill, was very disappointing, more on that in a moment. Also welcome to the three match officials, for our last fixture of October, having already completed a third of our League programme. Looking back on the first three months of the season, has not produced satisfactory results, a period that has seen a managerial departure, players also leaving, whilst an intake of new players together with new management now trying our season round towards the need of the climbing up the League table. The first part of the three month period brought just one League win, away to Warlingham, now the second part of that time has seen only the second league win two weeks ago. After the deserved Division One Challenge Cup win over Westfield earlier this month, there was hope

that the side could build on that, which brings me onto our last meeting against Staines Lammas.

A match that at one point was there for the taking, but after squandering a two goal lead, our opponents

stormed back to net four goals in the last fifteen minutes. However in our next game, we did bounce

back with a 4-2 success over Worcester Park, our previous home game before today. A hat trick from

Michael Pym and a goal from Charlie Postance secured three valuable points, our first at Redding Way

    this season.

Having suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Mole Valley in the Premier Challenge Cup eleven days ago, we

turned our attention back to the League last Saturday in the visit to Sheerwater. The game produced a

first half of chances for both sides, nothing too much though to get excited about! The second half did

however up the tempo and the flow of football, especially when Knaphill had a good spell and moved up

a gear after taking the lead through a Matt Edwards header in the 66thminute.

But just when it looked if Knaphill could carry that single goal lead towards three points, the defence

failed to stem the sudden threats on the visitors goal, and it was Sheers Substitute Turkay Suleyman who

equalised after 85 minutes and fired in the winner one minute into stoppage time. Deflated,

disappointed, two words to describe(well ones I can print!) as Sheerwater grabbed all three points,

leaving us with nothing, the result dumping Knaphill back into the bottom three.

Now it’s back to see if the team can redeem themselves, don’t squander any healthy lead, or allow

opponents to pressure wash through our defence, which has on two occasions has left us with nothing

After today’s game, Knaphill turn their attention back to Cup football when next Saturday 3rd November,

they visit to Farleigh Rovers in the Surrey Premier Cup, kick off for this one is 1.30pm as Farleigh don’t

have lights, and the early kick off will allow for any extra time and if necessary penalties. Our next home

game is on Saturday 10th November when Feltham will be the visitors to Redding Way kick off 3pm.

The Reserves missed out on any action last weekend as the Redding Way pitch was once again

waterlogged. They travel to Farleigh Rovers today, kick off 3pm. On the subject of the pitch we have

been informed by Woking Borough Council that despite drainage works on the pitch in the summer

which do not seem to have worked a new CCTV survey has been undertaken on what we suspected was

a malfunctioning land drain; this has identified what appears to be a blockage, contractors are going to

attempt jet washing to try to clear the blockage. It remains to be seen if this clears up a major problem

which has blighted the hallow turf here for over five years.

Our Ladies first team also had their game called off here last week however our Ladies reserves

progressed to the next round of the league cup with a 5-1 win over Cheam Rangers.

Off the pitch the Bonus Ball is doing and last weeks winner was Joan Annette who won £80.00.

If you want to enter the Bonus Ball please speak to Mick Garbutt on matchdays, it’s only £2.00 per

number and helps raise funds for the club, you never know you could win! Also going well is Last Man

Standing, this week there is only five left in the competition. One lucky winner stands to win £70.00 this

time round however, the more people to enter the more money will be won. If you want to take part

please speak to Bryan Freeman on matchdays.

A date for your diary is Saturday 17th November where it is Race Night here at the club. Again this is a

fundraising night but you can also win yourself some money. Tickets for the night are £10.00 which

includes a fish & chip supper plus a free drink. Everyone is invited so if your interested please speak to

either David Freeman or Mick Garbutt on matchdays, more details are on the club website.

….and finally, a word of praise for our Youth U18s, who sit proudly on top of their Division in the

Southern Youth League, having secured their fifth successive league win last week away at Fleet Spurs.

Back to today’s game here, which we hope will produce an entertaining encounter.

    Enjoy the game…....

    Bryan

    Introducing

    Staines lammas fc

    Theknappers

Staines Lammas Football Club was founded in 1926 and took its name from the park land adjacent to the River Thames in Staines, Middlesex which is now known as Staines-on –Thames. The Club played in various Leagues under the jurisdiction of the Middlesex County Football Association at the Lammas until the mid-1980’s when the Club moved to its current home at The Laleham Recreation Ground, Laleham. At this time the Club changed its affiliation from the Hounslow and District League to the Woking League under the jurisdiction of the Surrey County Football Association. The Club remains affiliated to both Counties. In the period since its move to Laleham the Club has made steady progress through the football league pyramid, gaining promotion to the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western). The Club progressed through the divisions and won the Middlesex Intermediate Cup in season 2000-01 and the Division One title in season 2001-02 (there was no Premier Division at the time). At the end of the 2000-01 season the Club completed the development of its new Sports Pavilion and changing room facilities with the financial support of local businesses and significant grants from the Football association and Sport England. It was a notable success at the time and represented the first such grant awarded by Sport England in the Borough of Spelthorne. As a result of its success both on and off the field the Club was promoted to the Surrey Senior League. In season 2003-04 the Surrey Senior League was amalgamated into the Combined Counties Football League with the Clubs forming Division One and the existing clubs the Premier Division of the Competition. The Club settled into mid-table security and at the start of the 2006-07 appointed Nathan Wharf as its manager (who previously the manager of Ashford Town (Middx.) Football Club) and success soon followed. The Club that season shared the Southern Combination Cup with Merstham Football Club when a date for the Final could not be agreed. In the following season 2007-08 the Club were champions of Division One and retained the title in the following season 2007-08 also winning the Division One League Cup that year. The Club unfortunately was unable to gain promotion to the Premier Division as it could not meet the necessary ground grading requirements and having been refused planning permission to install floodlights at Laleham, the Club decided to enter into a ground sharing agreement with Ashford Town (Middx.) Football Club for the 2009-10 season where it remains. In season 2011-12 the Club achieved more silverware when it won both the Middlesex and Surrey County Football Associations Saturday Premier Cups a remarkable and unique feat in modern times. The Club has a healthy Youth Section comprising some thirteen teams and has recently formed links with Colne Valley Ladies Football Club who play their home fixtures at Laleham.

    Lee Cope

Following their trip to Oxford City Nomads last Sunday afternoon Windsor bowed out of the F.A. Carlsberg Vase following their 2-1 defeat. Tom Mudge gave the visitors a 36th minute lead from the penalty spot only to be pegged back twelve minutes later when Jamie Mundy then squared the tie. With both sides pushing hard for a winner this eventually arrived fifteen minutes from time courtesy of Andy Stilyes who hit the all important winner for the hosts. This Saturday afternoon Windsor are due to welcome Sandhurst Town to Stag Meadow keen as always to seek out that first win under their newish management set-up. Prior to this game taking place Club Founding Director Kevin Stott has agreed to take part in a Fans Forum which many of the Windsor faithful I am sure will have several questions answered by a man who since the club got themselves up and running just over fifteen months ago certainly have much to look forward to despite several negative vibes off the pitch from various quarters. Very briefly activity wise, Tuesday evening Cove bowed out of the Hampshire Senior Cup going down 2-5 to visitors Sholing in their Second Round tie. Despite putting up a brave fight Bedfont Sports went down 2-1 to Northwood in their Middlesex "Help For Heroes" Charity Cup First Round tie. While over at Sandhurst they and Eversley & California went head to head in an Aldershot Senior Cup Second Round tie which after extra time saw the visitors progress, 5-2 this encounter finished. Finally cup wise, Tuesday evening in the El Records Premier Challenge Cup Second Round in a tie that saw venues switched Mole Valley SCR ended the hopes of Knaphill for this season by recording a 3-1 victory.

Just the two Premier Division matches Tuesday evening both resulting in home victories for Ash United 1-0 over Camberley Town and Badshot Lea 2-1 against Dorking. Wednesday evening London Senior Cup football was the order of the activity over at the Sports Arena and I am delighted to report that Croydon progressed to the next round by inflicting a really good 4-0 thumping on visitors Clapton. Last season among my many trips I had the privilege of being our league representative at Whitley Bay who on the day hosted our very own South Park for an F.A. Vase encounter. Without a shadow of a doubt it was one of those days when I wish I had packed my long johns. Well to cut a long story short 'Park', despite putting up a massive effort, sadly fell victim to a side who over the previous couple of seasons certainly attracted much attention through the media for their achievements over their love affair with this competition and by far were expected to retain this prestige piece of silverware especially as they on the day had dumped our Surrey heroes emphatically out following their 5-0 demolition, execution call it what you will it was not South Park's day. Now all these months on it was the turn of South Park to rightly gain for themselves enormous local and national media interest following their tremendous achievements in this season's F.A. Challenge Cup with Budweiser. Once again a club from our league had battled through to the 4th Qualifying Round of this our National Cup. Such was the media interest shown throughout the previous week that when one of our national papers pieced together a smashing article about

their achievements it filled you with huge pride that one of your member clubs had once again put our wonderful league on the map. Earlier on in the week it had been confirmed that Kieran Lavery of South Park had been voted Player of The 3rd Qualifying Round following his breathtaking performance against Brentwood Town which entitles him to a very special momento plus a VIP trip to the final later on in the season. Must tell ya Kieran we are so proud of you within the league set-up. What would have been icing on the cake would have been the name of South Park in the First Round draw which will take place later on today (Sunday). Sadly though this is not to be as visitors Met Police, thanks to goals from Howard Newton on eighteen minutes plus a brace from on loan Crawley striker Jonte Smith (48 & 85 minutes) shattered the dream for our boys. A superb attendance of 643 assembled for this tie and what was so pleasing and delightful to hear were the words of the victorious manager who was quoted as saying 'South Park were a credit to the Combined Counties League, they are a club who could well make the step up in the very near future' Such praise which I feel all at this wonderful club richly deserve. Yet again like Hanworth Villa last season who likewise reached the same stage the day we have a club reach the First Round Proper is not that very far away. Second placed Guernsey, with games in hand had another good day over at Footes Lane where Bed-font Sports visited. 5-2 the margin of the 'Green Lions' victory. Ross Allen once again finding himself amongst the goals (3 on the day) in the 4th, 26th & 37th minutes to be exact. Credit Bedfont though they, through Joe Jackson in the 17th minute and Jack Watts on 62, made a good contest of it. How-ever Man of The Match Matt Loaring netted in the 74th minute and a very late stoppage time effort from Dom Heaume rounded things off for the home side. Get this folks a superb crowd of 1026 came through the gate for this match.

Third placed Badshot Lea who like Guernsey have three games in hand on the leaders had another good afternoon winning 3-1 at Weycourt against Ash United. Molesey were top away scorers of the afternoon following a highly impressive 6-1 success over at Raynes Park Vale. Cove got quickly back to winning ways after their mid-week county cup defeat, goals from Pat Kirby on five minutes and then Aaron Parfitt 77 sufficient to send home visitors Horley Town pointless. Over at Chipstead hosts Epsom & Ewell, courtesy of a brace from Kyle Hough on 20 & 24 minutes, set them well on the way to a 2-1 victory over visitors Hanworth Villa who goal came 35 minutes in from Paul Burrows. Very briefly Premier Division wise Wembley took the spoils following a 3-1 victory over visitors Dorking at Vale Farm. Colliers Wood United recorded a highly impressive 4-1 victory over their hosts Farnham Town. Camberley Town and Croydon ended up 0-0 at Krooner Park. Finally over at Stag Meadow the faithful folk of Windsor had great cause to celebrate having seen their new(ish) look side secure their first victory under the new management regime. 6-2 the margin of victory. More on division one next time...

Knaphill Win Their Spurs at Kennels Lane Fleet Spurs U18 2 Knaphill U18 4 Firstly we must thank Fleet Spurs and Kieran Gurrie in particular for allowing this fixture to be reversed at short notice due to the continuing floodlight saga taking place at Redding Way. This was the first time the two clubs had met in anger although various Knaphill sides had previously travelled to Kennels Lane for pre-season friendlies.

The 1-0 win over Cove that had sent The Young Knappers to the top of the table had equalled the previous all-time undefeated run of 5 games, so a win would make history and also take us back to the top as Farnham town had leapfrogged into first position with their 5th straight win the night before by beating Hartley Wintney 3-1 at home. Manager Gary Taylor was hard pressed to field a full squad with injuries and unavailability, this lack of cover was fully revealed when one player failed to show and Jack Lewis pulled his hamstring in the warm-up. This allowed Robert Litchfield to make his first start of the season. Conor Davison, who played a handful of Allied County games last season, made his first start of this season and Jamal Roberts was welcomed back up front after his enforced absence. The first twenty minutes didn't see one shot on goal as both teams struggled to find some form, although Knaphill had a succession of Josh Dawber corners that everybody managed to avoid! Fleet scored first after a Knaphill mistake as the normally reliable Ahmed Abdali gave the ball away in the box and the Fleet play scored with ease, 1-0.

Knaphill started to get involved with Jamal and Jonny Coats both going close. With 10 minutes to go Stevie Kemp who looked as if he had lost the ball, robbed the Fleet defender on the by-line and crossed for debutant Conor Davison to fire home for the middle of the ‘box, 1-1. This was now game on and Fleet came roaring forward with a goal disallowed for off-side and two great clearances from Craig Taylor in the Knaphill goal keeping The Knappers in the game. With 45 minutes on the clock, Knaphill were awarded a free kick some 25 yards out, up stepped Jonny Coats to fire through the wall and see the ball parried by the keeper, only for Jamal to dive in and stab the ball home, 2-1. Three minutes into the second half, Conor got his second of the night with a sublime curling shot from outside the box into the far top corner when nothing looked on. This left Fleet Spurs stunned and Knaphill took the upper hand as Jamal and Jonny again went close. Two goal hero Conor limped off to be replaced by Turkay Suleyman and when Charlie Felicienwas brought on in the 69th minute the two of them combined as Charlie immediately found the net with an unopposed header from Turkay's free-kick. Fleet pulled one back with 11 minutes to go as the Knappers failed to clear their lines, but the result was never in doubt as a strong defensive display kept the home side at bay. This despite Knaphill finishing the game with at least two players reduced to a crawl after receiving inju-ries after both substitutions had been made.

  • Plenty in reserve

Warlingham Reserves 4 Knaphill Reserves 2 It was a beautiful autumn day we had suffered a lot of rain over the previous few days and Warlinghams pitch was wet but in a fair condition for a excellent game of football. But unfortunately we got held up on the M25 due to a accident and we did not arrive until half hour after the scheduled kick off time. With no proper warm up Paul Dyer had to send his side out to face a well warmed up Warlingham side. Eventually we got underway and the game became a closely fought encounter which was also played in a great spirit by both teams. Within three minutes Warlingham were through but their shot went wide. Then Simon Price made a great save from a header. We eventually got ourselves going and put Warlingham under pressure. Lee Cope had a great shot but their defender got in the way and ended up with a bloody nose where the ball hit him straight in the face. On twenty minutes Warlingham raced through our defence to slot the ball pass Simon Price and take the lead, five minutes later Warlingham were at it again but their shot hit the post. It was now an end to end game and we had a good shot but unfortunately it went wide. Then their was a hand ball in the area and we got awarded a penalty, Jay Coombes stepped up to slot the ball into the net and we were back on even terms. Half time came and the score remained at 1-1. Then on the 49th minute just after half time Warlinghams left back blasted the ball passed Price. Then on the 51 minute mark there was a cross from Warlingham that hit Joe Green on the knee that went into our own net for the score to become 3-1. We strived to get back into the game and made the Warlingham keeper busy. On the 83rd minute we were awarded a free kick that Ryan Pilley curled into the net to make it 3-2. In the last minute Warlingham increased their lead with a well placed header. What with the football result along with the accident on the M25 it ended up being a bad afternoon for the Reserves. Our game today is away to Farleigh Rovers who are unbeaten in there last five games so hopEfully we will put a end to that run.
