2011 Kukui Cup in a Nutshell3 weeks, 3 rounds, 24 events418 players, 850 hours(4,094 unique visitors, 170,000 hits) (#)It lasted three weeks, involved both online activities as well as real world events like workshops and excursions. Using custom instrumentation, we found that 418 students played the game for a total of 850 hours on the site. Apache web stats are less informative, showing over 4,000 unique visitors and 170 thousand hits.5In 2012, let's do even better!Better gamesBetter prizesBetter involvementStart in SeptemberKeep it going all year long

(#)Game 1: Use the least energy

(#)Use game mechanics to connect "real world" to "online world"

(#)We tried to create a virtuous circle using game mechanics, in which online activities would suggest ways for students to change their real world behavior, and if successful, these real world changes would result in improved performance back in the game world. So, learning about conservation techniques in the game world, if applied in the real world, should increase the number of points earned by players. 18September Schedule
