On The Cover: Saint Teresa of Calcutta, Saint of the Day, September 5th: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the tiny wom-an recognized throughout the world for her work among the poorest of the poor, was beatified October 19, 2003. Among those present were hundreds of Missionaries of Charity, the order she founded in 1950, as a diocesan reli-gious community. Today the congregation also includes contemplative sisters and brothers and an order of priests. During her years in public school, Agnes participated in a Catholic sodality and showed a strong interest in the for-eign missions. At age 18, she entered the Loreto Sisters of Dublin. It was 1928 when she said goodbye to her moth-er for the final time and made her way to a new land and a new life. The following year she was sent to the Loreto novitiate in Darjeeling, India. There she chose the name Teresa and prepared for a life of service. She was assigned to a high school for girls in Calcutta, where she taught history and geography to the daughters of the wealthy. But she could not escape the realities around her—the poverty, the suffering, the overwhelming numbers of destitute people. For the next four decades, Mother Teresa worked tirelessly on behalf of the poor. Her love knew no bounds. Nor did her energy, as she crisscrossed the globe pleading for support and inviting others to see the face of Jesus in the poorest of the poor. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On September 5, 1997, God called her home. Blessed Teresa was canonized by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016.

Friends, Roman Catholics and fellow Americans, greeting and salutations. Taking my little mouse in hand to share a few manifestations, epipha-

nies, and praise reports. It pleases me to say that we had a good August. Our Sunday coffee at Santa Clara and St. Antho-ny's went very well. We always have fun and it is a great oppor-tunity to serve our parishes. Our Pancake Breakfast on August 18th was a great success. Special thanks to our cook Javier Figueroa and his team who did a superb job. The last Sunday of August is our traditional Council Family Picnic in Camarillo, and as in the past, it is one of my favorites. I must say that our Past Grand Knight Dinner was a cuisine delight and the turnout was wonderful. I wish to thank the committee chairs and their staff that made all these events such a success. It's a lot of work and a great sacrifice for all you who help to make these events so memorable. I assure you, a great treasure in Heaven is waiting for you when you graduate. Moving on to September, we look forward to the Labor Day weekend and a happy hello to the beginning of Fall. I love the change in the weather, the cool-er evening breezes, and all the events/activities scheduled for this month. I am looking forward to our Father and Son Dinner on Tuesday, Sept 10th and for you Golfers, there is a Santa Clara High School Golf Tournament on September 13th. I hope that many of our 430 members and their families will join us in some or all of these events. Let's not forget that the Santa Clara High School football season starts this month. On a lighter note, I encourage you and your families to participate in the daily read-ings of the day and to read the Saint stories each day. It's a wonderful investment in your faith walk and will help you be better and stronger Catholics every day. Always remember that our Lord said that what goes into your mouth can't hurt you but what comes out of your mouth can cast you into Hell. Let us try to control our vocabulary because profanity is not allowed in Heaven, only in Hell. A final note, we are walking, talking, liv-ings Tabernacles of God and because of that, wherever we stand, it is Holy Ground. The whole world needs that kind of real estate and all the Blessing we can share with one anoth-er. We should not demand apologies, but we should always be ready to offer apologies because many healings have come to past due to this practice even if you did nothing wrong. If you do, you will have treasure in Heaven. I hope this helps somebody out there in la la land. Have fun right now because you are going to need it later. I guarantee it. Your servant, Michael T. Hernandez Grand Knight

Greetings Brother Knights,

I hope this article finds all of you well! I want to start by thank-ing everyone who helped at the Salsa festival, the Santa Clara Chapel Fiesta, and the Jr. past Grand Knights dinner. All events were a great success because of all of you who helped. Please continue to support our events.

With that being said, are we doing everything we can to support this Council and this Grand Knight? Are we doing everything we can to make this Grand Knight as successful as he can be? Let us leave all the negative energy at the door and let us all walk in the direction together so we can accomplish more. Let me ask a question, do you come to an event or meeting expecting to get something out of it or do you come to an event or meeting with the mindset that you are going to help make this meeting or event successful? I am reminded of those famous words from President Kennedy ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” So I pose the same quote on a much smaller scale “Ask not what this Council can do for you, but what you can do for this Council.’ Let’s support our current Grand Knight and make him look like a SUPERSTAR. Respectfully, Frank Aguirre Deputy Grand Knight

Greetings Brother Knights, Thanks to all the Brother Knights and family

members who supported the Pancake Breakfast and Coffee & Donut events in August. With your continued support of Council events, you are helping Council 750 fulfill our mission in the key principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The pancake breakfast was a big success, and through the charity of Brother Knights and their families, we are able to make a substantial donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Looking ahead to September, your calendar will reflect another Coffee & Donuts event on the 8th at Santa Clara Church. We will also be having a Corporate Mass on Sunday, 22 September, and we’ll be looking to fill the pews of Santa Clara Chapel with Council 750 Knights. September 5th happens to be the feast day of a well-known modern saint, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Many of us are old enough to remember Mother Teresa’s amazing, selfless and inspiring life, as she served the poorest of the poor with her Missionaries of Charity in the slums of India. “Mother Teresa left a testament of unshakable faith, invincible hope and ex-traordinary charity” (catholicculture.org). St. Mother Teresa’s extraordinary charity serves as a force of inspiration to us as Knights, reminding us of why we serve.” Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori recently com-mented that, “If the essence of the Church is to proclaim the Gospel, then the essence of the Knights of Columbus must be to practice a charity that evangelizes – that evangelizes both its members and those who are assist-ed” (Columbia, July/August 2019). Thanks again for your time, service and charity. Sincerely, Chancellor Tim McDougal.

A Message from PGK Frank Chavez

Our Life in California In 1980 I moved my family to Oxnard from Albuquerque, NM. My wife Lupe and I had 3 children, Andrew, Annette, and Brian.

We registered at St. Anthony parish, where we were involved as Eucharistic ministers, Lupe as a Lector, and together in the FOCUS program, a program for couples preparing for marriage. Our children were enrolled in school and Our priori-ty when we moved here was to find a program for our son Andrew, who has Cerebral Palsy. By the grace of God, we soon found him a home with Unit-ed Cerebral Palsy of Los Angeles. When he turned 18, he went to live in their facilities. In 1988 they built two homes in Ventura county, in Thousand Oaks. Andrew has lived there ever since. He remains happy and healthy now at 53 years of age. We be-came involved with the organization early on, with myself serving on their board of directors. I joined the Knight’s of Columbus, Council 750 and quickly went through the chairs, serving as Grand Knight during the second half of our Councils 100th year. Our other children have families of their own now and Annette’s husband Joe also is a Knight of 750. They have three daughters, two son-in-law's and one granddaughter, who is the light of her great grandparents life. Our son, Brian, also a Knight, lives in Albuquerque NM with his wife Amber and has three daughters, Alexis who is married to Ian Carlo, Victoria and Briana. Over the years I have continued to be as active as possible with Council 750. We feel very blessed to be active members of the Council and for the blessings we have received. Blessings for the continuing success of Council 750.

A Message from Maria Hernandez, 1st Lady “With three things I am delighted, for they are pleasing to the Lord and to human beings: Harmony among relatives, friendship among neighbors, and a wife and husband living happily together.” Sirach 25:1

Brothers and Sisters in Christ, PGK Edward Castillo asked me if I would be willing to write a small article for the Lance in relation to the Knights of Columbus. Feeling a bit overwhelmed of what to say I decided to “keep it simple”. Sirach tells us three things that pleases God and human beings: Harmony: Not directly related to one an-other, we are still related through Christ. I have come to learn the Knights of Columbus was founded with a mission to help and sup-port the less fortunate and I believe Council 750 fulfills this. It also is ready to help their own when in need. I also believe it has incredi-ble people with leadership skills. Friendship: The Knight of Colum-bus is fraternal organization of men that unites many people from all walks of life with God as our Lord which allows many to come together to enjoy great moments and celebrations. I have come to learn The Knights of Columbus always welcomes those who come seeking a friend who they can talk to, looking for advice, or simply “enjoy good company”. Michael (Grand Knight) and I just celebrat-ed our 7th Wedding Anniversary this past August 11. We vowed to love and be committed to one another until “death do us part”. Happiness is a call that we seek to fulfill each day with God’s bless-ing. He has a passion to bring happiness to others as well. For me, being part of the Council through my husband, keeps us together as family and I’m proud of his accomplishments. “In service to one, in service to all”, is a great motto I believe this Council lives by. I’m happy to be part of this great organization as the wife of a Brother Knight, especially as the wife of the current Grand Knight. God bless All! Respectfully, Maria Hernandez, 1st Lady GK Michael Hernandez with Maria Hernandez
