The Life and Death of Cleopatra
• She was born 69BC-68BC• After her father died, Cleopatra became co-
regent with her 10-year-old brother (Ptolemy XIII). They were married, in keeping with Egyptian tradition.
A brief History
• In 48 BC, Egypt became involved in the conflict in Rome between Julius Caesar and Pompey,
• Pompey ran away to Egypt where he was then found and killed.
• Cleopatra and Caesar became lovers, she became queen of Rome for military support.
• She gave birth to Caesarion whom was never accepted by his father.
• When Caesar was murdered, Cleopatra returned to Egypt, her brother had died mysteriously.
• She made her son Caesarion co-regent.
• In 30 BC, Egypt became a province of the Roman empire.
• There are many conspiracies on how the great ruler Cleopatra died.
• Some say she killed herself with a poisonous snake.
• Others say she was murdered or forced to kill herself by Augustus. (There are many ideas about this one.)
• There are more but these are the most common ones.
Mysterious Death
The Truth?• By analysing her corps, we now
know that she had very rotten teeth.
• It is speculated that she had one of her wisdom teeth removed which lead to a horrible tooth abscess.
• This grew inside her mouth, thus making impossible to open.
• It is most likely that she died from starvation from the tooth abscess.
Face reconstruction
This is the most accurate reconstruction of Cleopatra. Many say she was ugly. I personally
think she looks beautiful.
