The Lighthouse Beacon
Our 14th Annual Auction is coming up fast! This is our school’s largest fundraiser and helps to offset budget needs which in turn keep tuition costs as low as possible. We need donations, sponsorships, and program advertisements! The deadline for donations is March 1st. Think about the relationships you have in the community, any unique experiences you could offer, or any gift cards that you might not want or need any longer – we will take them off your hands and give you a tax donation form! Childcare will be available ON SITE this year! Limited to the first 20 children, parents must have secured their tickets before childcare reservations are accepted. The website is LIVE and ready to accpect your ticket purchases! Consider sponsoring your child’s teacher or his or her spouse or significant other to join us. We love to treat our teachers to a special night out!
This year’s yearbook is well underway! Keep taking picutres and posting them to the yearbook site. Gretchen McKay is heading up the
yearbook but could use another parent willing to learn the ropes to join her. See Gretchen if you’re able to help. Also, remember that there is a camera you can take on field trips in the office if you would like. The more pictures we have, the more vibrant a memoir can be created!
Eight students plunged on a frosty and windy day at the end of January and raised more than $600
for the Special Olympics! They had great spirit and enjoyed the excitement of the Plunge.
Thanks to Mr. Insley and Mrs. Mood for transporting and chaperoning, and a big thank you to Nancie Marie Lafferty for organizing! We can’t wait for next year!

Happy new year! Thanks to all who attended our January 13, 2013, meeting! We will not be having a February meeting, but keep an eye out for Auction Meeting requests. There’s much to do and many hands are needed to make the auction a success! Schwan's Fundraiser: LCA has earned $705 to date from this fundraiser! Nancie Marie Lafferty will renew LCA Schwan's membership for 2015-2016. To make a purchase and support our fundraiser, click on this link. The teachers LOVE the document camera from the PTO and have requested that we purchase more for classroom use! Keep an eye on the Wish List to see how this need is filled.
Keep clipping those Box Tops! February Boxtops contest ends 2/20, and the class
with the highest number of Boxtops brought in will earn their own dress-down day! Thank you to Luisa Wayson for collecting and counting the Boxtops. We’ve already
received over $330 from our last submission! Thank you, parents, for clipping and sending
them in!
Thank you to all who have volunteered to help with lunch and teacher appreciation through VolunteerSpot. Many e-mails are going

A notice went home mid-January about our Yearbook Cover Design contest, which runs through February 18. If your child is interested in submitting a cover design incorporating the LCA Logo, they could win a 2014-2015 yearbook! All students’ submissions will be featured throughout the yearbook. Submissions must be turned in on an 8.5x11 piece of paper and must incorporate the school’s logo. For more information, contact Mrs. Gretchen McKay.
Most of our school families come to LCA by word of mouth – that’s YOUR friends, neighbors,
customers, coworkers, church friends, Boy Scout buddies, gym partners, Facebook friends… some folks have found us even because of your license
plate covers! We have planned an enrollment push for this Winter/Spring, so remember that
anyone you refer comes back as a minimum of a $300 tuition credit to your account!
Tuesday, April 14, 9 AM – 2 PM
Wednesday, May 6, 9 AM – 2 PM Every Wednesday 9 AM – 2 PM
Each Friday morning that school is in session, there are a few moms who meet to pray for our teachers, our leadership, our students, and our school’s mission and vision. Won’t you join us? We meet while the students are in Friday morning devotions, 8:10-8:30 in the church’s conference room. Nothing fancy. Just coming to our God on behalf of our school. He’s doing great things at LCA, and we are seeking His continued will for us!

By now you probably know that your child is working on a science fair project! If you have any questions, direct them to your child’s homeroom teacher or Mr. Covington. We will have a panel of expert judges and an awards ceremony the evening of February 13. Grandparents’ Day is the same day, so if you have family visiting for that, invite them to stay for the Science Fair! It is amazing to see how inquisitive and well-prepared our students are!

LCA does NOT follow Queen Anne’s County Schools decisions for weather-related closings and delays. We have our very own Snow Team that will analyze and determine LCA’s delays and closings. Watch your e-mail and our Facebook page for information regarding closures and delays. As always, we trust that you as parents make the very best decisions for your children and encourage you decide to either keep your children home or bring them in late based on your comfort level.

Helen and Bob Bennett are parents to Julian, who is in the 7th grade. Helen owns and operates the Grooming Place Pet Shop in Chester, on the corner of Main Street and Dominion Road.
The Grooming Place Pet Shop is YOUR go-to store for all of your pet needs. Our motto is “USA Made Products for your USA Pet. “ We do not carry any foods or treats made in China. We can order just about anything you need that we don't have. We don't charge extra for special orders - in fact, we LOVE to beat out our neighboring box stores! We are working to become primarily a rescue-only shop. This means our adoptable pets come from shelters and not breeders. We tell our customers: we sell products, but we adopt pets. We have a fantastic groomer, Tara, with more than 15 years’ experience, and we can beat any price on the island. We love our customers and we enjoy their two-legged parents also. We carry supplies for reptiles, fish, birds, and small animals, as well as cats and dogs. We even carry pond supplies during pond season. Our services include (but aren't limited to) small pet sitting (not dogs/cats), nails and wings clipping, full grooming menu, and we have even been known to come out to your car when you are feeling under the weather and don't want to come in!
We would like to highlight our family-owned businesses each month. If you own your own business and would like to send us a blurb and logo, we’ll include it in an upcoming newsletter. Send your information to Kathy Guerra directly.
