Optum Informational Fair: Making Happiness a Habit

Friday, May 27 11 am - 6 pm

JukeboxWhat is happiness? Some say it’s the ability to enjoy where and who you are right now, even as you strive for something better. We spend our lives pursuing goals; it’s easy to base our happiness on whether or not we reach those goals. We often say, “I’ll be happy when I get that promotion” or “I’ll be happy when I have more money.” The trick is to keep your eye on the destination, while not forgetting to enjoy the trip. This information fair offers ways to increase your happiness by:

• Journaling and blogging• Increasing your creativity• Putting more laughter in your life• Reframing negative thoughts• Tapping into mood lifters

Overcoming Summertime Childcare ChallengesSummertime is especially problematic for parents who typically rely on school and after-school programs to keep their children safe while they’re at work. So, how do busy parents find summer childcare that is affordable, safe, and fun for their children?

Quality summer programs fill up fast, so start early! Look for options that fit your budget and enroll your child as soon as appliations are being accepted. The longer you wait, the more limited your choices. Some summer childcare options include:

• Tradtional Summer Camps: Look for camps that offer scholarships, as well as meet your child’s interests and needs.

• Daycare Centers: Most local daycare centers offer summer programs that cater to the needs of the five to 11 year old age group. These are generally less expensive summer camp programs.

• Family Home Providers: Look for a provider who has children the same age as your child. The provider should plan a variety of age appropriate activities including games, projects, crafts, and field trips.

• Sitters: Ask friends if they know any student, call local youth groups in your community or church, or check out the job boards of local schools. College students or local teens often offer their babysitting services for the summer as a way to earn extra money.

There are also many summer programs offered by community organizations. To find out more about these programs check your local newspaper to see if they list summer programs in your area, or call the organizations individually to ask to be sent their summer brochure. You might contact:

• School Districts: Contact your child’s school to see if your district offers a low-cost summer program.• Parks and Recreation Programs: Contact your local Parks and Recreation District for information on day camps which

typically include arts and crafts, games, sports, movies, and field trips to museums, parks and local sporting events. Scholarships are often available to those who live within the district’s service area and meet financial eligibility criteria.

• Local Church Programs: Quite often, church groups offer highly discounted summer camp options. You can send your child to camp for much less than daycare or a babysitter would cost.

How to Play:Fill the grid so that every row, column and 3×3 box contains the digits 1 through 9, without repeating. A answer key will be posted on Sharepoint.

Guests Celebrate Their 50th Wedding Anniversary at Our VIP 25th Anniversary Dinner

I just wanted to write and say, 'Thank you for including me in your 25th Anniversary Dinner celebration. The food was scrumptious and the wait staff was friendly, cheerful, and efficient. The decorations were beautiful! The band was great and brought back many memories. The gift is lovely.

My husband and I were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary that weekend. As with all our special events in our lives, we treat each other to a Grand Casino overnight. That whole stay over and celebration made our anniversary extra special and I wanted to thank you all.

We had so much fun and enjoyed ourselves so much. We have been coming to Grand Casino since you opened and we always enjoy ourselves. We have taken so many relatives and friends to Grand Casino to show off the best casino in the state! Grand Casino is the very best! We have visited many casinos in our travels but none come even close to Grand Casino.

I want to thank you for all the wonderful gifts you give to us. We use everything and really appreciate them. It is like Christmas all year round.

I feel at home at Grand Casino. I always feel comfortable and safe.

I would like to praise Grand Casino for all the new features you have initiated. For example, the paper vouchers, the security check before entering the room corridors, the computerized wrist band attendants wear so that they come right away when needed. And you have the best food ever! Your rum cherry ice cream is to die for.

I would like to personally name and praise the following staff members for their service above and beyond. These staff members are courteous, friendly, caring, helpful, sincere, efficient, knowledgeable, and do the best job ever.

They are: • Pam at the Hotel Front Desk for Check Out• Sandy at the Hotel Front Desk for Check In• Judy who cleaned our room• Suzanne (Suzy), our waitress, at the Grand Northern Grill• Stephanie at the Grand Cup & Cone• Debra the Cashier Please give them commendations in their personnel file and let them know they were mentioned and praised for a really good job done. Great staff make us feel wanted and we enjoy our stay so much more. I like how friendly all the staff are and I like the way they sincerely wish us good luck. That means a lot.

Thank you for a wonderful time and we will be back many more times because Grand Casino is the best casino ever!!! Keep up the good work. You all are doing a fantastic job!

Sincerely, A Guest

No Such Thing as FailureThere is no such thing as failure. Really! You see, most people have been programmed to be afraid of failure. But "failure," more than anything else, is an attitude. All of us can remember times when we didn't get the results we wanted. We flunked a test, or put together a business plan that didn't work, or got involved in a romance that turned sour. However, successful people don't think in terms of failure. They think in terms of results they can learn from. If they try something and it doesn't work out, they figure they have had a helpful learning experience, and they take new actions to get new results. Think about it. What is the one asset, the one benefit you have today that you didn't have in the past? Experience. It is the one thing you have today, that you didn't have yesterday. Whether you see the experience as positive or negative is all in how you look at it. Maybe you are afraid of failure, but how do you feel about learning? Fear of failure can stop you before you start. It can stop you from taking the risks you need to take in order to grow. If you redefine failure as learning, as important feedback, there is no longer anything to fear. There was an article in the Saturday edition of the Wall Street

Journal some time ago that suggested that by demanding students be "perfect" by getting top grades, and punishing wrong answers with failing grades, we are robbing students of valuable learning experiences. Most people will admit that they learn more from failures than they do from "challenge-free" success. They also remember more. As a familiar example, Edison tried thousands of different materials before he found the right filament for the electric light bulb. When asked why he didn't quit, he said, "Why should I? I now know 2,000 things that don't work!" If you look at your experiences the way Edison did, you are much more likely to achieve success.
