Chairman’s Note

“Gurur Sakshaat Parabrahma”

Guru, or the teacher is the embodiment of the Almighty as per our scriptures. We, Indians at heart and global citizens of the earth have our roots firmly placed in the teaching of our ancestors who have always taught us the importance of our Gurus in our lives. We want to hand over the same legacy to the generations to come. The legacy which has produced genius like Ramanujan, C.V. Raman, Dr. S.Radhakrishnan and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore needs to be handed over to the leaders of tomorrow.Although we have come a long way from

the ages of ASHRAMS, as the abode of education to a more modern and globalised genre of learning, yet the essence of “Guru- Shishya Parampara” , the very Indian and revered concept is still fragrant in our system. We, at Salwan have been holding on to our values strongly and are in a continuous quest for instilling the same in our children. Our genuine approach towards the same remains mutual respect.; a caring environment; close knit ties between the teacher and the taught and a democratic disposition of ethos at school.. These values foster independent and critical thinking, decision making and a humane approach to solve problems. My ardent and humble appeal to the parents is to let the support flow. Help us rear our children with the qualities you always wanted to see in them.

Let us together,Ignite that unique spark in them.

Let us together,Give wings to their imagination.

Let us together,Affirm their landings,

And strengthen their grounds. And let us together

Bring up absolute HUMANS.

A potter knows how well each grain of his

clay will blend and knows which strokes to

place on the wet clay to transform it into a

vessel worth using.

Coming to school reminds me of my own

teachers who then were solely responsible for

making me a person, I am today. Likewise,

each of our student, who when grows up,

is going to realize the amount of love and

efforts which have gone into making his

experiences memorable and his schooling a

celebrated experience.

At Salwan, we are in interminable competition

with our own self, and are in a continuous

strife to outdo our own achievements in the past. This is ensured by the spur we

get from the children. The explosion of information keeps their imagination rife

and abounding.

However, it has never been a one-way process. This congruent relationship

between teachers and students is such that both of them are a driving force

behind each others’ success. It is a student’s thirst for knowledge which enables

a teacher keep innovating and bringing novel experience into the classroom.

Likewise, it is a teacher’s industrious enterprises which keep the students on their

toes, in the quest for accomplishments.

My wishes and blessings to this duo who keep life at Salwan Junior School rewarding,

refreshing and an ever-evolving experience.

For centuries the word ‘Guru’ has been used in India always with reverence. The idea of a Guru rests in our consciousness as something larger than life.“Guru Brahma Guru VishnuGuru Devo MaheshwaraGuru Saakshat Para BrahmaTasmai Sree Gurave Namaha”.Guru is the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. He creates and sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. I salute such a Guru.In Sanskrit, ‘Gu’ means darkness and ‘Ru’ means light; thus a Guru turns ignorance into enlightenment. The Guru moulds the student’s character, confidence, strength and overall vision of life. Thus, India has traditionally given a position of pre-eminence to the Guru. This can be very well understood with examples from the Mahabharata. The manner, in which Arjuna became proficient in all disciplines

under the loving care and affection of his Guru Dronacharya, is an epic in itself. Also, we cannot forget the faith and unbinding love for learning of Eklavya towards the same guru Dronacharya that brings out the essence of the guru-shishya relationship. Centuries later, today, we still vouch for Eklavya’s dedication towards his guide. The process of learning hasn’t changed till date. Children still enjoy positive engagement with their teacher. The ability to make eye contact and receive warm encouragement is the kind of input that makes all the difference .Also, it takes the warmth of teachers to impart soft skills such as respect, communication, socialization, interactive abilities and conflict resolution. In turn, it is the children’s exuberance, their lively smiles and their out of the box ideas, which make a teacher’s day interesting. A child has the ability to ignite a fire in the teacher’s mind. At the end of a fulfilling day at school, it’s the learning of teachers and the students, which is the most important earning. Teachers are a bond between the process of learning and cherishing childhood.Time has been a proof that our greatest sportsmen, politicians, bureaucrats, leaders, actors, writers, musicians, all reveal the role of a special teacher or a mentor behind their glorious success. It is impossible to fathom a talent that has not been chiseled by the expert hands of a trainer. All successful people give the credit of their insurmountable success to the guide in their lives and are appreciative of the selfless toil and dedication with which they were directed towards their goal. The greatest responsibility therefore, is entrusted upon us. As the teachers of a globalised society, we take pride in our profession as we have the flame that will ignite a million minds. We endeavour to be ideal “GURUS” to our “SHISHYAS” as we carry forward the ancient tradition of this supreme human interaction, aided suitable today with modern tools to assist learning. On our part, we pledge to be unbiased and non judgmental in imparting learning and treat all children with equality and respect. In their wellbeing and success we find utmost satisfaction and greatest joy. As Ivan Welton Fitzwater quoted,“The future of the world is in my classroom today, a future with the potential for good... Thank God I have a calling to the greatest profession of all! I must be vigilant every day, lest I lose one fragile opportunity to improve tomorrow.”

In association with the diligent children, several activities were carried out during the year to sensitize them for environmental conservation and preservation. A snapshot of the activities :

Vanmahotsav is a weeklong festival of tree plantation organized every year in the month of July. Sapling plantation of ornamental and flowering plants was done by our class III students in I-Block of Naraina. It is the best way of preventing earth from global warming and also reduces pollution. On 23rd July 2012, a power point presentation on’ “thirst For Water” was shown to the students of class III, IV & V. Tomorrow’s Leaders - Investiture ceremony

“The price of greatness is responsibility”. Children can be taught leadership skills at a young age because their mind is still young, curious and on the lookout for an identity. The Investiture Ceremony is a prestigious function that takes place every year to officially appoint students as office bearers. On a bright sunny day the deserving young talents of our School were bestowed with the responsibility of leading their School from the front with their commitment, confidence and competence. The Investiture Ceremony marked the beginning of responsibility for the newly elected council members of the cabinet. The quality of leadership must be reflected in the standards, they set for themselves. They have to be firm but approachable. While it is important for a leader to learn to agree to disagree, to be respected is far more important than to be liked. It is well said that “One quality that all successful people have is the ability to take on responsibility and motivate others” The principal, Ms Nisha Obheroi motivated the children and bestowed the council bearers with the badges of honour for their respective posts. The principal and teachers congratulated the newly elected cabinet. She encouraged them to shoulder their duties with ‘loyalty, truth and honour’. The Principal inspired the students and encouraged them to excel in their future endeavours. The Head Boy, Head Girl and the council members were advised by the principal to be responsible and also help the others. It was a defining moment for the school. It also gave the parents an opportunity to appreciate their children at such a young age.“Leadership and responsibility are indispensable to each other.” Having said that the principal ended with a mention that there is a humungous task ahead of us for which we all need to work as a team, including those who don’t have stars on their shoulders. We are all nothing without them and we hope they know this too.

Good art is nothing but a replica of the perfection of God and a reflection of His art. And what better way to do it than through children. On the same lines, Salwan Junior School presented a vibrant mix of art with culture on Saturday, October 6, 2012: through an Exhibition- “PANDORA: the image carnival 2012.” The entire school was engulfed with glittering elements of rich Indian heritage and culture shown through folk art and craft by our young Salwanians.Tribal art and paintings welcomed the gathering of proud parents into the school, paving way towards our cultural gallery. Hand painted Worli art T-shirts with beautiful bandhanwars, tastefully decorated dandiya sticks, wrapping papers and earthen pots captured everyone’s eyes.Handmade file covers, bookmarks, variety of travelogues highlighted the eclectic mix of creativity and imagination. Tiny tots also showed their ability to play with ideas by way of geometrically designed table mats, wall hangings and carefully crafted jewellery- boxes.Preschool children showed their zeal and enthusiasm by dramatizing a skit on ‘We- the Indians’ in a colorful mix of costumes, which was encouraged by one and all. Decorated hats, lampshades, folk art adorned paper plates, handmade paper bags, waste material woven into useful dustbins, artificial jewellery designed on mount boards, tinkling wind chimes, stunning mirrors, tiny treasure chests cum piggy banks etc were a few in the list of show casement by school children.Amongst the creative splash of art and craft, the school also had a contemporary feel to the entire gamut of exhibits by highlighting the importance of science in our lives. Class 1V and V presented ‘Young Scientists’ corner emphasizing on the fact “children never learn anything by being told, they learn by doing it themselves.” Variety of Models and experiments on Digestive systems, types of teeth and structure, tidal waves, earthquakes and natural disasters gave helpful tips and information with explanation of tooth structure; digestive systems etc. were conveyed to the audiences. Also, working models of volcanoes, geyser, cooler, electric circuits, torches etc. were on display. The most appreciated models were Bulb microscope, magnetic magic car, cup phone and time clock. Children were able to explain the scientific principles behind each of their creations very well to the gathering with cross questioning. The main objective of documenting children’s work was to aware them and brighten their minds with our rich cultural heritage of arts and igniting their minds with scientific attitude in day to day lives.

There is no friend as loyal as a book and we at Salwan Junior School made an effort to help our children find their best friend in a book.Book Week was celebrated from 16th April 2012 to 20th April 2012 in Salwan Junior School, Naraina with great zeal. During the week the entire school was abuzz with various activities and competitions associated with books and reading for all the children from Classes KG to V.

The Chief Guest Mr. Sanjay Mattoo inaugurated the story-telling show. He has been closely associated with All India Radio, as a News Reader in English since 1992. He is also a lecturer in Mass Communication Department in Jamia University. As a documentary film maker, he has researched, scripted and directed many documentary films. His story-telling was very expressive and enthusiastic. Children enjoyed his enactment of different animals while narrating the stories to the young listeners.

Mr. Sanjay Mattoo was all praise for the students’ efforts and their work like Story Writing, designing Book Covers, Book Marks and Travelogues. All these were beautifully displayed in the school campus. Throughout the week the school looked like a Reader’s Paradise with the students thronging to the stalls of Book Fair that had been put up by Scholastic. So many books, so little time ,yet we tried to make the best of it and make it a memorable experience.

A Hearty Confab with Mr. Sanjay MattooThe morning rings with the news highlights by Mr. Sanjay Mattoo who airs them on 92.7 FM daily. With an expertise in writing stories for children, Mr. Mattoo tells the same to the children with skillful expressions and animated elocution very different than his adroit newsreading oratory. Our students had the opportunity of spending a whole day listening to his stories in a uniquely dramatic style and enticing enunciation. Here’s an excerpt from their cozy chat.tell us something about your childhood.I belong to a family of Kashmiri pundits but grew up in Lucknow listening to local tales and fables both from Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. Giving in to this upbringing, I developed a keen interest in stories of all genres. What do you enjoy the most, Story telling or News Reading? Its about spreading information. However, the medium is different. With the news reading experience till date, I have gathered a lot of information about diverse things around the world. While I share my stories with you children, that sharing of information becomes lively and colourful. What does it take to become a newsreader?Newsreaders gather information & present it to the viewers to keep them informed about the daily happenings around the world. A newsreader must be quick in thinking. He needs to be alert at all times. A strong command of the language & good public speaking are essential. What are the essentials of Story writing?Collect ideas for your story. Begin with basics of a short story. Find inspiration from real people. If you have trouble understanding or finding attributes of a character, turn to your life. You can easily borrow attributes of people you know or even strangers you notice. Organize your thoughts.message for all of us…Whatever you do, big or small, do it with love. Nobody ever did anything truly great all by themselves. Think of the great men and women in history – Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Jr., Steve Jobs – they all had teams (huge teams) of people who worked in the background, provided support, advice and manpower. To achieve great things we must work together. Ask for help if you need it. And if someone asks you for help and you are able to, lend a hand. Its about being useful to the world, being happy and being the one of many. Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.’

“Free the child’s potential, and you will transform him into the world.” Kindergarten Talent Show “Protasahan: nurturing Salwanians” stand true on this, as every face and smile on the stage brightened the spirits and self esteem of children on Saturday, 23 Feb ’13. Talent Hunt, as the name suggests, aims at finding the hidden and unexplored talents in an individual. Thus, Salwan Junior School has made a conscious effort to inculcate talent Show, at junior level as, a compulsory part of the school curriculum to help our children in finding out their natural desire to excel. The only way towards it is to encourage children to do so, hence Protasahan, helped our children to excel in multiple events with participation of their parents and guidance of the teachers, keeping in mind this year’s theme- initiative, responsibility and confidence. This year’s talent show provided three platforms to the children to choose from and to perform in front of large audience namely: Comedy Tadka (A Comic Act) in partnership with a parent, Aaja Nachle (Dance Competition) and Hum Honge Kaamyaab (Show your talent). This category provided a large array of choices to children to perform and display any of their talent. The event commenced with the cultural Indian tradition: lighting of the lamp by Our Respected Principal ma’am Ms. Nisha Obheroi with few parents and teachers. This was followed by Morning Prayer and a song by our KG Choir Group for welcoming parents and remembering God before starting the programme. ‘Protasahan’ kick started the performances of kindergarteners with Comedy Tadka: showing deadly comic timing between the child and the parent. Every participant gave a social message infusing it with comic-bits. Thereafter, miscellaneous avenues of talents opened up in Hum Honge Kaamyaab category. The sub-categories like singing, rhyme-recitation, fancy dress, story-narration, mono-acting and hoola hoop movement captured the hearts of the judges and the audience. The last event of the Programme was Aaja Nachle: Dance Competition, which created hysteria amongst everyone. Right from the performers to the audience to the judges, everybody enjoyed the infinite banks of talents i.e. our children and were thoroughly encouraged by one and all. The only objective of having our annual ‘Talent Show’- was to uncork these budding performers by giving them a public platform and their own free will to perform, with the support of their parents to be able to grow into a confident individuals. Such activities, apart from the academic events, paves way for their brighter and better beginning because: Every child is special as, it is us who brings them to this world, deciding to give them a beautiful and a deserving future.

Field trips are a great way to break out of a rut, end a boring

subject or bring life into something that seems particularly

difficult. It also gives kids a chance to get to know each other

and interact in a more relaxed environment, without the

pressure of grades or the constraints of classrooms. Experts

believe there are different methods of learning, including

visual, auditory and tactile. Students who learn better through

tact (known as kinesthethic learning) will greatly benefit from

field trips, where the senses come into play a lot more than

they would ever do in a classroom. Depending on the type

of field trip, teachers can take advantage of this by allowing

kids to not only observe but also to actively participate in

the events going on around them. While tests and classroom

education may not work so great for some kids, field trips put

everybody at the same level, as the learning is experienced,

rather than taught.

The school organized a picnic for classes Pre School, K.G.,I,II

and III to the amusement park of Aapno Ghar, Gurgaon in

the month of September. It was a place of joy with the ideal

expression and unequaled dream world. Overwhelming

excitement was apparent in its array of delightful rides such

as caterpillar, baby train, Flying bob,Break Dance, Columbus.

“I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.”Young children learn best through activities that are relevant to their lives and varied enough to be challenging and engaging. Children develop their knowledge by building on their past experiences and the learning they have already acquired. Since most children enjoy learning only as a pleasurable experience, they are naturally inclined and even eager to learn when such activities are infused with their world called- play.Hence here comes the role and importance of early childhood years, as the need of each child is to grow and develop in interrelated areas like physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic. Therefore, in order to address the complete personality of each child, we, year after year, attempt to provide opportunities for learning, self-expression, self discovery, innovation and initiative in a variety of areas – for example, in music, drama, games, language activities, and co-operative activities with peers with an understanding of traditional values. Family is the first school of every child and it is the only concept with which children are well acquainted. Therefore to help the child to achieve first milestone of learning, this well connected dot is taken through the entire initial month when child comes to school. With this one thread, gamut of activities and projects are designed to pave the way for education into child’s joyful growing years e.g. understanding of oneself through drawing and tactile touch with paper and pen or colors, importance of family members through audio visual aids (listening to rhymes, stories), values instilled in children by the parents and grandparents through Special assemblies and skits, showing them our gratitude through handmade cards/ tokens designed with multiple materials and competitions, celebrating everyone’s achievements and birthdays through class-parties and sharing happiness with each member of the family. The list goes on and on with numerous activities which are extensively carried out throughout the year to provide each child a prepared environment of a mini-society within the school walls. Wherein children learn to choose independently, perform freely, express without hesitation and to take responsibility of one’s own actions. Teachers are always there to act as facilitators and to guide children towards their chosen direction with their own choices just like a farmer who nurtures a growing plant which spread its leaves like wings to take flight into the world and serve Mother Nature, similarly for children to become responsible and sensible citizens of the country. Activities such as taking care of the environment by planting saplings, watering, cleaning their classrooms and surroundings, learning to grow saplings with the help of the gardener were few initiatives carried out during Health Week. We strive to provide our students with holistic education focused on both academic and non-academic domains. Hence wide range of experiences help them to make most of their years together in school where they interact with each other, form strong bonds thereby developing skills and values. Such few examples are: art/craft activities-colouring, drawing, origami, pasting, folding, tearing and pasting, making mukuts, cutouts, headgears, decorating rakhi, diyas etc. ; participating in each and every celebration of festivals and important events; showing gratitude to people around and making handmade cards, bookmarks, post cards; visiting nearby places and understanding of the neighborhood; enjoying and soaking in the sun with water and music - AQUA SPARKLES (Rain shower)activity; listening to moral stories and learning almost everything through rhymes with the help of puppet theatre and audio visual aids such as Smart Class and K-Yan; being independent in making lemonades and fruit chaat or making simple sandwiches along with polishing shoes, brushing teeth and taking care of one’s belongings; dealing with peers and elders with respect and learning to live in harmony with everyone on one planet. One such special endeavour was to spend a day with the grandparents in the class. Grandfathers very willingly spent a day with kindergarteners telling them their tales of good deeds, love, compassion

and the strong bonding they love to have with grandchildren. Children were equally curious and excitedly welcomed them with special songs, heard their fables and gifted them a handmade card along with the token of un-adulterated love. Competitions, both at school and inter school level boost the confidence of children and give them stronger immunity to stand and face the world on their own, at their own level. One such achievement this year was Inter-School Classical Group Dance Competition where 9 KG girls won 3rd prize (cash prize and a trophy) out of 20 participating schools of Delhi at Salwan Montessori School, Rajinder Nagar. Special Class parties and Birthday parties are celebrated with equal zeal and vigour be it a Summer-Rasna party or a New year party or giving them a farewell party, each one is celebrated keeping in mind the importance of sharing, eating together and serving everyone before oneself. Also, every child’s birthday is celebrated with equal enthusiasm by everyone and a personalized card is given to the birthday boy/ girl in scripting best wishes from the friends and the teachers. To break the monotonous class room routines and to experience the world outside, children are taken to regular excursions and picnics to enjoy their play and make merry with their peers. This year’s itinerary included a Day’s Picnic to Aapno Ghar, Visit to Rail Musem, Mother Diary and a Day’s Adventure Camp. Children automatically soak themselves into fun, frolic and games without anyone’s interruption into ‘only their world.’ Also, regular conversation charts are provided to children and parents to have a glimpse of the structured and un-structured conversation done regularly in the classes taking a theme of the month into consideration. This linguistic activity is done on a regular basis to upgrade our children to become self reliant and well aware of the world around them. Early childhood years have a very crucial and effective impact on the minds of our toddlers. This age is like a pivot around which our multi dimensional activities run along with the growing years of children. Hence every year we, at SJS aim to plan and implement an engaging, integrated, challenging, developmentally appropriate, carefully and linguistically responsive and positive outcome for all children as we believe in the thought:

“Give me a fish and I eat for a day, Teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.”

As most parents and teachers know, children gain increasing control over their emotions, attention, and behavior across the early years. These growing abilities allow them to face and overcome new developmental challenges, from getting along with others to learning novel academic skills. Despite their growing abilities, children sometimes find it difficult to regulate their thoughts and emotions in ways that allow them to succeed at new tasks. At these times, close relationships with meaningful adults, including teachers, can help children learn to regulate their own behavior. The sense of safety and security afforded by close relationships with teachers provides children with a steady footing to support them through developmental challenges. At Salwan Junior School, Naraina this has been proved when I see my child as well as other children being nurtured in a well knit environment. Here children are regularly fed with a positive message of motivation. The “right” climate has made children believe that everyone can grow to their full potential.

A child never forgets his or her first teacher. A teacher is said to be the second mother to the child. The child is like a bud which needs to nurtured with lot of love and care to help him blossom into a beautiful flower. If the relation between the two is positive it can make a world of difference in shaping the child’s personality and also his or her academic performance. For developing a positive teacher student relation, the learning environment should be such where the student feels free to ask questions and equally important is that the teacher responds in such a manner which clears the child’s queries and does not make the child feel uncomfortable. The building blocks of a positive teacher student relation are effective communication, period of interaction between them, continuous monitoring of students, solving their problems which they may also involve teacher- parent interactions.Hence it is rightly said that “Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than those who produce them, for they only gave them life, but those gave them the art of living well.”

Being a kid I used to wonder what makes a person become a teacher. Somewhere I read, ‘Acharya devo bhav’, Treat your teacher as your God. Most children in the age of Nintendo and Xbox, would scoff at this statement, and far from treating teachers as Gods, rarely a few children, and parents for that matter, give teachers the respect they deserve. Then why should I be a teacher? When you have so much knowledge and potential to shape the world then why not opt for something more respectable that shapes you up?The picture became clear when the table turned around. It has not been a long while when I left my school and decided to enter into the field of education. It wasn’t destiny, it was a choice done with a rationale behind. And I stepped into the shoes of my teacher. Many teachers are in this profession for their passion for learning, many to channelize the passion of kids for learning; some just want to add their bit to shape the minds of future, some to add their colour in the world’s scenery; many more want to be among the young brains just to keep their brain vivacious. Of course, there are some teachers who are in the profession for earning money, but this tends to be the exception rather than the norm. Teaching as profession may not yield big bucks but it relinquishes you with a feeling of contentment. Being a teacher some love children and then there are some who love being children. So is Me. Each day reliving my school life, from morning prayer to the last bell. I feel contented. The thing I construed after working in a primary school is that you never know when and where you will get a chance to smile. Under a pile of notebooks and the bank of sheets, which new concept is struggling with the Newton’s law; or when 2+2 becomes five; or which ‘arth’ has turned into ‘anarth’ only a teacher knows. The silly fights, puerile complaints and the innocence on a student’s face is enough for a teacher to rejuvenate herself in the mayhem of a busy class. The feeling of a bud growing is something only a purist can cherish. It feels awesome to see them grow when the sapling is rooted by you. Though the fruit will come years later, but remember patience is the key ingredient of profession called teaching. Mango tree will yield mango only, orange tree will yield orange only but students taught by a teacher will go into different realms of life and will conquer it to the fullest. Teacher never gets a reward in the form of a medal but her reward comes as an appreciation when one evening one of her students, amidst the mob in a mall comes just to greet, “Good evening ma’am.” Here correct usage of salutation is no important than the child’s zest to wish the teacher. Teachers’ work seems accomplished when an ex-student who is now taller than her approaches to touch her feet and proudly recites his success story. “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”I fathom being honored at a responsible position in the field of education that uses my skills and brings me the high of self-accomplishment and feel overwhelmed to be participating a wee bit in shaping the future brains, which brings me the high of self-completion.

God created mother as He could not bestow His love to all the children and then …Even that was not enough so he created teachers to guide their path right. This is true for my child Mukul. It is the holistic teaching method designed to integrate critical thought, examination of emotion and moral values and not to forget the factual data to broaden the learning experience and make it more relevant to everyday life. If the role of a teacher is to teach the role of the student must be to learn. The entire situation might look like a drama but then this is where the drama becomes an invaluable tool. Through the use drama and dramatic conventions a teacher does not only teaches but learn to know, to ask and to think better. I remember the day when I dropped Mukul for his first day to his school. He kept looking around with longing eyes for someone who looked familiar, me, his brother or his father. The teacher gave him a helping hand …. Motivated him and stood by him .They became undoubtedly his care giver. The teachers became his friends, his knowledge bank and his inspiration. Not one but all starting from class Nursery to class v I have seen my child grow….in every respect. My son’s confidence boosted and he participated in various assemblies, intra and inter school competitions. I remember his first Fancy Dress competition where he was dressed as a balloon seller and bagged the first prize. Since then there is no looking back.Whether Mukul has won or not the teachers have always been there besides him encouraging him, guiding him to believe ….believe in himself. Looking back I see my little boys foot prints on the sands of time along with him was God and his blessings. I know we as parents had to let him go so we were left at the beginning but right along the path were many sets of footprints guiding him through making him strong .They were the source of inspiration and an umbrella for my child…. They were none other than the teachers who have helped him reach that far.Thanking you all from the bottom of my heart.

Relationships are essential to the educational experience whether this is recognised or not, and whether we are consciously aware of this or not. Once established, relationships continue to exist beyond the time and space of the individuals influencing future relational experiences. The relationship between student and teacher, if it is to be maximally productive, must reflect certain attitudes and commitments of each to the other. One such commitment is love. The care with which teacher sifts through various options, seeking that which will satisfy and beautify, is truly an act of love. The measure of a teacher’s affection is reflected in her concern for her students’ all round development. If the teacher’s instructions come from such a place of loving endearment, then she will save her students much wasted effort in their journey toward self fulfillment and service of God.Teachers who foster positive relationships with their students create classroom environments more conducive to learning and meet students’ developmental, emotional and academic needs. Those students who have close, positive and supportive relationships with their teachers will attain higher levels of achievement than those students with more conflictual relationship. If a student feels a personal connection to a teacher, experiences frequent communication with a teacher, and receives more guidance and praise than criticism then the student is likely to become more trustful of that teacher, display better classroom behavior, and achieve at higher levels academically. Positive teacher-student relationships draw students into the process of learning and promote their desire to learn.

With so many demands on time, it’s often difficult for parents and children to get together for a family meal, let alone spend some quality time together. Children who are not getting the attention they want from their parents often act out or misbehave because they are assured of being noticed that way. When children are effectively parented, they feel better about themselves and their abilities. They enter school excited and ready to learn. And, they are more likely to achieve their fullest potential at school and to make positive contributions to community life. These effectively parented children are also more prone, as they become adults, to be healthy, law-abiding citizens, and to have successful careers and family lives. As an effective parent, you are responsible for correcting and guiding your child. But how you express your corrective guidance makes all the difference in how your child receives it. When you have to confront your child, avoid blaming, criticizing, or fault-finding, which undermine self-esteem and can lead to resentment. Instead, strive to nurture and encourage, even when you are disciplining your child. Make sure he or she knows that although you want and expect better next time, your love is there no matter what.

Parents are the first teachers of their children. When it is considered that during the first five years of life, a child is a formidable learning machine with a brain that is well adapted to learning and experimenting, the importance of the quality of parental teaching becomes clear. Parents are not merely the first teachers but, by far, the most important ones, and the parent-as-teacher role often lasts until the child becomes an adult and sometimes beyond.

It is always beneficial to take time to work with kids, and have fun with them to build solid social relationships, and work towards making the bond stronger , and giving this society meritorious citizens.

Teachers can establish a positive relationship with their students by communicating with them and properly providing feedback to them. The more the teacher connects or communicates with his or her students, the more likely they will be able to help students learn at high level and accomplish quickly.

Open Communication between student and teacher serves as a connection between the two which provides better atmosphere for a teaching learning process.

Interaction between student and teacher becomes extremely important for a successful relationship through entire school years. The more the teacher connects or communicates with his or her students, the more the students learn.

letter to my role model a relation of loveIn this world it is impossible to define or

specify any relation in the words. The

teacher and student relationship is a

unique kind of love. It is relation of two

persons who enter into a relationship

by mutual consent that ends with

love. The person who agrees to give

his knowledge or expertise is called

teacher and the person who requests

to take knowledge is called a student.

Although there is no scale to measure

love but some matters and basis are

as follows :-1. Mutual consent is the first step to

start relationship when both of them are ready to share and give regards to each other’s views.

2. Belief and regards about each other increases mutual understanding and commitment in both the sides.

3. Commitment about each bring feelings of trust.

4. Give and take will only take place when there a feeling of trust.

5. Humility is the most important part of teachings which teacher teaches with actions only.

6. Love is the highest feeling of two hearts which can neither be taught nor learnt but felt.

While writing anything on teachers and students, the first thing that comes to our mind is the relationship between both of them. There is a deep relationship between teachers and students. No doubt, the parents give life to a child, but it is the TEACHER who Makes the Life of a student. Like a goldsmith who, with the help of simple pats, gives a beautiful shape to a gold piece and transforms it into a valuable ornament, likewise, the teacher, by his positive support to the students, gives a new direction to them. It is very important for the growth of students that they must have a positive and supportive relationship with their teachers. The students who get encouragement from their teachers, in spite of their weaknesses, can easily overcome them rather than those who get criticism for the same. The communication between the teachers and the students serves as a connection between both of them. This connectivity further proves to be a bonding between them that helps the students to have faith on their teachers to share all their difficulties with them. The teachers’ share, in solving all the problems of students, is no doubt very limited because it is not necessary that they may know or understand all their problems, still they play an important role in building confidence in the students through which they become able to find out solutions of their queries on their own. So, it would be quite right to quote that in the confidence building of a student’s life, the teacher plays an important role as a foundation stone of it. We thank all the teachers who help the students in making their lives.

attention Please

My dear friends, please pay attentionI have few things here to mention.

When you enter the school gateBe sure that you are never late.

Then say your prayer with a pure heart. This is how, every day must start.

Listen to what your teachers say. This builds up your knowledge day by day.

You go to school for a better aimTo be great and have a high name.

If a teacher scolds, never mindIt is a teaching of its own kind.

This precious time you must utilize. If not, you will be sorry otherwise.

Be obedient and be smart. Then you can pull well your life’s cart.

These few things I wanted to mentionThank you for your time and kind attention.

The bond we share.....

A child’s first experience……

When a child first time steps in school’s desks, he tries to make relationship with people around him especially the teachers. If a teacher starts to understand his/her students there will be a good relationship, because when students have problems in school they can speak freely with their teachers and they can find solution together that is good for everyone. If the relationship and communication between student & teacher is good, student will have more respect for teacher

and he will pay more attention in his classes. But if that relationship is bad, then going to school will be the biggest nightmare for the student. So students ought to respect their teachers because they play a vital role in our development, good behavior & good character. That’s why I think relationships with them are a very important part of our life. If they are understanding and care about us, then it can help us become good citizens of our country. God Bless our teachers.

The relationship between the students and teachers is one of the most important relationships. The relationship between a student and teacher includes trust, guidance and encouragement. The importance of a teacher’s influence on a student should never be underestimated. The values learned at home are developed further at school under a teacher’s guidance. The teacher not only gives the bookish knowledge to the students but also helps in enriching the general knowledge of the students. The teachers must educate the children in free minds and they must regard the students as their own children. Teachers influence their students and play an important role in moulding the society. Children spend approximately 6 to 7 hours a day with a teacher in school. A teacher and student who have the qualities of good communication, respect in a classroom, and show interest, in teaching from the point of view of the teacher and learning from the point of view of student establish a positive relationship in the classroom. Understanding the child’s problem, fear, or confusion helps the teacher in understanding the child’s learning difficulties. Teachers can establish a positive relationship with their students by communicating with them and properly providing feedback to them. Students should feel comfortable in coming to a teacher with any questions that they might have.

This is an ongoing requirement

Teachers always hold a unique place in our hearts, no matter how much they scold us but we love them as we love our mothers, the same goes for my class teacher Ms Sanjum Sethi who has always been a good friend and I will always remember her throughout my life. She loves children and at times scolds us for our betterment. The teacher student relationship is very important for teachers and children as well . Children spend approximately 6 hours a day with a teacher. The communication between the student and the teacher forms the connection between the two. This provides a better atmosphere for a classroom environment. Interaction between the student and teacher becomes extremely important for a successful relationship through the entire time of a school year. A close, but limited relationship between the student and teacher can be helpful for those students who are shy, and find speaking in front of the classroom difficult or children who have low self-esteem. Teachers can establish a positive relationship with their students by communicating with them and properly providing feedback to them. Having established a positive relationship with students will encourage students to seek education and be enthusiastic and to be in school. Therefore, I like and respect all my teachers because they all love us unconditionally.

Core elements The relationship between student and teacher, if it is to be maximally productive must reflect certain attitudes and commitments of each other, Specifically three elements must exist in a student’s relationship with teacher.First, the student must respect his or her teacher and hold him in the highest esteem, for this, it is a necessary prerequisite to accepting his advice.Second, the student must trust the teacher’s concern, the student must believe that the teacher always has his or her best interest in mind. Finally, the student must commit himself or herself to following the instruction with utmost discipline for only then can the intended effect be realized.

abacus It is said – “if you are able to solve the problems in mathematics, then you are also able to solve the

problems in your life.”

Keeping this thought in mind we at Salwan Junior School, Naraina arranged for the Abacus classes.

The Abacus classes were conducted in the school from April 16, 2012 to September 11, 2012 for level

I to III. 88 students from Classes III to V opted for this activity.

51 students secured 90-100% marks in three different levels. 14 students obtained 80-90% marks.

Students were awarded with the ‘Certificate of Excellence’ for securing the remarkable 100% marks

in Level – I and II. Parents are happy at the school’s endeavor for providing the Abacus classes within

the school premises. They feel that these classes have benefitted their wards by increasing their

level of confidence and interest in Mathematics.

In the words of Johann Von neumann -“In Mathematics you don’t understand things, you just get

used to them.” Our young and budding mathematicians at school have made this true by making

Mathematics a magic.

mastering mathe-magic

Make the world bright!!!

As a kind gesture towards the less fortunate people of India Salwan Junior School, Naraina joined

hands with Goonj, an active NGO providing clothes and other basic amenities to millions in the far flung villages by turning urban wastage into a resource for rural India. The SJSians whole heartedly donated toys, stationery material, clothes... to make a small contribution towards the upliftment of their unpriviledged brothers and sisters. This donation was extended to Goonj on 11th Oct 2012 by the teachers Ms. Kirti and Ms. Neeru and five children of V-A & V-B.
