The Official Newspaper of the 2017 Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Camp Wednesday, January 25, 2017 Volume 11, Issue 4 I don’t know what it is about baseball movies but, I’m a sucker for them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a true story, like Gary Cooper’s portrayal of Lou Gehrig in “The Pride of the Yankees,” or the adventures of a group of young boys and their summer at the “Sandlot.” It got me wondering if a baseball movie was made about my life, what would it be titled and who would play me in the starring role? Those who know me may recall that my 2006 Fantasy Camp ended prematurely as I suffered a broken shoulder diving for a ball in the outfield during the Wednesday morning game. The following year I began producing the Fantasy Camp newsletter and have been handing them out each day during camp ever since. It’s only fitting for me that a movie about my life would be called “Lucky Break”, and I’d want Esai Morales in the starring role. I posed the same question to the 2017 Fantasy Campers and these are the responses I received: All About Hustle, starring Matt Damon - Ryan Kotowski Jackov Some, Master of NONE! , starring Jason Alexander - Chuck Barcik A Fortunate Guy, starring Tom Selleck - Jim Bluse Good Wood, starring Dirk Diggler - Mike “Grasshopper” Martin Forever The Rookie, starring Mark Wahlberg - Dan Rooks Surgery, starring Willie “Duke” Mueller - Doug Gonring The Kid is Back in Town, starring Tom Selleck - Donald Tyre Don’t Look Back, starring Dennis Quaid - Mike Schoonveld Drop the Puck, starring Mark Wahlberg - Matt Varney (cont. back) My Baseball Movie Tuesday’s Results Under a chilly, but sunny sky Tuesday morning, the 8-game season of the 2017 Milwaukee Brewers Fantasy Camp was underway. Rob Cook, Doug Gonring, and Wade Kretsinger claim three of the top 10 spots in batting, each with a .667 average. Lick That Sweet Ass, aka L.T.S.A., managed by Rick Sweet and Greg Vaughn, split their two games and are at 1-1. Pete Ladd and Jerry Augustine’s team, Sex Toy Vending Machine, aka, S.T.V.M, lost their a.m. game, but scored 13 runs in the p.m. to notch their first victory. Andy Scholbe and Matt Varney bookend the Fantasy Camp leaderboard for S.T.V.M. with a 1.000 and .667 average, respectively. The Crim Reapers, led by Chuck Crim and Mike ‘Tiny’ Felder, round out the 1-1 teams. Greg Strick is the lone Reaper in the top 10 with a .667 clip after two games. Don Money and Cecil Cooper’s Corner Boyz won last year’s championship, but the reboot of that squad, the Corner Boyz 2, need to get out of the corner, or in their case the cellar, if they want any chance to defend their title.
