In 2012 a team came to UNITECH and ran a workshop on the Acceleration Frame Work of the MDGs
In 2013 a second workshop was conducted under the Sustainable Development and Post 2015 Agenda

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
To understand what the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the MDG Acceleration Framework are and how they are important for accelerating the achievement of MDGs/MTDP/PNGDSP targets
To enhance knowledge, including calculation methods on Human Development Indicators
To understand the PNGInfo database system, as a tool for monitoring population, human development and MDG/MTDP/PNGDSP indicators
To come up with the way forward for the introduction of a one semester long course on MDGs and human development at the University of Technology (UNITECH) in Lae
To brainstorm on how UNITECH can become the Centre of Excellence in assisting the national, provincial, district and LLGs of PNG as well as the other island countries of the South Pacific region in planning and monitoring of MDGs and human development.

Course Objectives
Understand what the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)and MDG Acceleration Framework are and how they are important for accelerating the achievement of MDG, MTDP, and PNGDSP targets;
Demonstrate an understanding of each of the eight MDGs in terms of global targets and indicators and how PNG as a country has progressed in achieving the MDGs targets;
Appreciate and enhance knowledge on how MDGs, PNG’s Vision 2050, MTDP and PNGDSP are connected and fitted on the overall structure of the development framework of Papua New Guinea;
Develop an understanding, including calculation methods, on Human Development Index (HDI), Inequality – adjusted Human Development Index (IHDI), Gender Inequality Index (GII) and Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI);
Acquaint and understand the PNGInfo database system, as a tool for monitoring population, human development and MDGs, MTDP, PNGDSP indicators; and
Apply the knowledge and skills gained in different real life situations aimed at contributing towards the various and varied development efforts and paths of Papua New Guinea.
IM4DC and ANU Edge 3 day Workshop at UNITECH On identifying theoretical and practical
issues in measuring poverty and the wellbeing of the population in PNG.
Keynote presentations, working group sessions, and a fieldtrip to a village for participants to experience first hand the process of gathering data relevant to measuring the MDGs.
Electronic Resources Provided
On flash drives distributed to workshop participants of 1.67 gigabytes containing 164 folders and 564 files supporting the program in electronic format to staff and students

Since 2011 MDGs and Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) 2011-2015, Papua New Guinea Strategic Development Plan (DSP) 2010-2030, and Vision 2050. provided text for two courses LA 101 and LA 102 offered to students in all disciplines
First Female SRC President,2011
TWENTY -two year old Charlene Mell from Mount Hagen.Charlene is a final year Mechanical Engineering student.
She was the only female in the race among fourteen males and came out to be the number one person. She won with a total of 600 plus votes with a leading margin of 200 while the runner- up got 400 plus votes.
