“The Blessing of Discovery”

A few short weeks ago, two youth,

members of my family and I, all

shared in our very first week of

Disciples Camp. As I reflected on

the Disciples tradition which has

cultivated so many exceptional

members of the Christian Church, I couldn’t help but

to thank God for the great gift of discovery; a gift so

easily obtained and simultaneously so easy to

overlook.

As we journeyed to Camp it was no secret, we all

possessed very different sets of expectations. Some

of us were excited by the unknown, and highly

anticipating a life impacting experience. While

others were challenged or anxious because of the

presumptions they carried into their Camp journey.

By the end of our journey, we would all agree, each

of our lives had been impacted in ways that

superseded our expectations. We’d experienced

“The Blessing of Discovery”. We discovered things

about ourselves; strengthens and talents we did not

know we possessed. We discovered how significant

Camp can be on the formation of discipleship and

friendships. Last but certainly not least, we all

discovered Gods presence in new and unexpected

ways. That’s “The Blessing of Discovery”, finding

something/someone on your search or completely

unexpectedly.

Our journey to Camp has caused me to wonder, have

we as Christians become so programed and methodic

that we have allowed ourselves to become closed

minded to the “Blessing of Discovery”. Have we lost

sight that Gods divine revelations that are happening

around us? Has life ripped from us the joy of wonder

and discovery? This month, I challenged us all to

look for God in unexpected placed, and to allow

ourselves to be open to “Discovering” God in the

people we encounter, in the situations we’re

presented, and in the silent moments of our lives. It’s

when we open ourselves up to “Discovering”

something new, that we “Discover” the miraculous

ways Gods already operative within in our lives.

Matthew 7:7-8 States, “7 “Ask and it will be given to

you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will

be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives;

the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks,

the door will be opened.

Altar Flowers

Flowers are a great way to brighten the Sanctuary. If you are

interested in purchasing flowers in honor or memory of a

loved one, please contact the church office to reserve your

dates. The cost of the flowers are $36.00. Remember

whomever donates the flowers may take them home,

deliver them to a friend or ask the church to deliver them

to a member who is sick or is unable to attend each week.
