arrive on time as the sun rises at 6:47. Not too sure about the

Happy New Year!

Dear Wedgwood Presbyterian,

I wanted share these amazing results from the holiday season that you made happen.

With your help, over 1,100 youth in foster care opened a special gift with their name on it,

including:

• 9,442 clothing items

• 10,046 toys

• 1,026 teen toys

• 153 bikes

Additionally, 320 Little Wishes came true, as we were able to provide funding for things such as gymnastics classes, laptops for school, driver's ed classes and winter break camps. Thank you for rallying your network and fostering the spirit of giving. Your generosity, leadership and dedication brought thousands of people together across Washington to give youth in foster care a happy holiday. With appreciation, Dana Petrarca Community Engagement Officer 206.267.5109 P.S. We’d love for you to join us at our annual luncheon, Champions for Foster Kids, on March 15th from 11:30 - 1:00 PM at the downtown Seattle Sheraton. It’s an inspirational hour full of powerful youth stories about how they are succeeding in school and in life. There is no ticket price but gifts over $300 will be matched. Lynden Dowell

graduated from

the University of

Washington on

June 10, 2017.

He is the son of

Lynda and Chris

Dowell. Lynden

majored in Civil

and Environmental Engineering. His

general focus was on construction and

dealt with how big projects are man-

aged and paid for. He spent one col-

lege summer in Oahu, Hawaii where

he worked for Kiewit on their light rail

project. Over the course of his college

career, he also worked summers at

Karlstrom Associates doing construc-

tion and the Broadmoor Golf Club

where he maintained the course.

Lynden sang in the university’s gospel

choir for two years. This was an espe-

cially good time as he took the class

with friends and enjoyed the atmos-

phere.

Early morning on January 14, Lynden

set off on a bike trip adventure. He

had spent some time beforehand refur-

bishing and outfitting a bike for the

trip. He left home on his packed bike,

rode to the UW light rail station and

took it to the King Street Station

where he boarded the Coast Starlight

train to Sacramento. Upon arriving in

Sacramento, he will be biking his way

south along the California coast to get

to nice weather. He has plans to stop

and WWOOF as he travels further

south. WWOOF is the acronym for

World Wide Opportunities on Organic

Farms. A farm host provides food and

lodging in exchange for assistance on

the farm. Lynden’s first stop as a

woofer is at a farm where they are es-

pecially excited to take advantage of

his construction abilities. His plans

include working his way to San Diego

Lynden Dowell

by March 23 as he already has tickets to see a Chick Corea

concert there. He will also be stopping and visiting family

and friends on his trip. Congratulations to Lynden on his

college graduation and best wishes for his trip! Wedgwood

looks forward to hearing updates about Lynden’s footloose

and fancy free bike adventure as it unfolds.

Wedgwood Meaningful Movies

(second Friday every month) presents

Sonic Sea February 9, 2018 7:00 P.M.

to be shown at Our Lady of the Lake

8900 35th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115 Movie is shown in Jubilee Hall,

Entrance located on the southwest corner of NE 89th St. and 35th Ave NE.

Sonic Sea (2016, Michelle Dougherty and Daniel Hinerfeld, 56 min,) Oceans are a sonic symphony. Sound is essential to the survival and prosperity of marine life. But man-made ocean noise is threatening this fragile world. Sonic Sea is about protecting life in our waters from the destructive effects of oceanic noise pollution. "This documentary, about the devastating impact of industrial and military ocean noise on whales and other marine life, begins with a mystery: the unexplained stranding and mass mortality of several species of whales in the Bahamas in March 2000. As the mystery unfolds, the film explores the critical role of sound in the sea, and the sudden, dramatic changes human activity is inflicting on the ocean’s delicate acoustic habitat — changes that threaten the ability of whales and other marine animals to function, propser and ultimately, to survive. Sonic Sea features several charismatic scientists, including Ken Balcomb, the for-mer Navy pilot and acoustics expert who proved that naval sonar is killing whales, as well as the musician and environmental activist, Sting, whose moving interview connects the sonic world of marine life with our sonic world on land. The film offers solutions (and, by extension, hope) for a quieter ocean, and underscores that the ocean’s destiny is inextricably bound with our own." (summary from IMDB at http://www.imdb.com) Winner of numerous awards in 2016 and 2017, including 2017 Emmy's for: Nature Documen-tary, Music and Sound, Graphic Design and Art Direction. Join us for the film's showing. It's FREE and open to the public! Donations to defray the cost of screening rights gladly accepted. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. The film begins at 7:00 P.M. tary Fellowship at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church.

crafts and more. We will be meeting every other

Middle and High School

Youth Group

Looking for something fun to do in the evening after

school? Come to a gathering of our Youth Group

where you can share a meal, go bowling, serve at

Teen Feed, laugh and play games. We are an active

group who has fun assisting at Vacation Bible School,

attending church summer camp and participating in

worship services. Call Jennifer at 206-525-8787 to

learn more about Youth Group.

February Meetings

February 7, Wednesday - Teen Feed

Children ages three through eighth grade are

encouraged to attend Sunday School after wor-

ship and fellowship time. Join with similarly

aged students as you engage in discussion and

immerse yourself in further study of the lection-

ary Bible stories. Your leaders will use material

from Seasons of the Spirit, an ecumenical

resource following the reformed common lection-

ary. The lectionary provides for an orderly

exploration of scripture connecting worship and

education. The common scripture readings draw

us into the story of God’s creation; God’s calling

and forming a people; the life, death, and resur-

rection of Jesus; and the stories of the early

church in the world. When you hear the ringing

of the bell, I hope you will come downstairs to

join us in Fellowship Hall. -Jennifer

Children’s Sunday School

11:30am -12:15pm

Young children ages three through seven are

invited to the Children’s Worship Center on

Sunday mornings during the 10:00am worship

service. They join with their families in worship

in the sanctuary for the beginning of the service,

and then are invited to the Worship Center

downstairs following Pastor Karen’s Conversa-

tion with the Young Church.

The Biblical stories are told using wooden story

figures so children hear and see the stories of

God. The children respond to the stories by

working with an assortment of art materials or

choosing to retell the story using the wooden

figures. The children’s time together follows

the same order as our reformed worship in the

sanctuary Assemble in God’s Name (Gathering),

Proclaim God’s Word (The Word), Give Thanks

to God (Giving Thanks), Go in God’s Name

(Sending).

Our materials and beautiful wooden figures

were made in 1991 through the generous dona-

tion of time and talents of many people. Some of

the people involved include Frank and Ruthe N.,

Renee L. and Lucille A. -Jennifer

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING MORE THAN 28 YEARS AGO, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.” Since that day, more than $135 million has been raised for

local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring. It has be-come a powerful movement that is transforming the time around the Big Game into the nation’s largest celebration of giving and serving. Through this mission, young people learn what it’s like to make a positive difference in the world – as they collect food, raise money and volunteer to work in charities that provide shelter to the homeless, food to the hungry and com-passion to those in need. Be part of this movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need. Please drop coins or a dollar bill into a soup pot after worship on Super Bowl

Sunday. Every dollar donated goes to Weekend Food “Packs for Kids” at Eckstein.
