Wednesday September 25, 2019 History of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation The Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) began in 1980 as the Col. Arthur D. "Bull" Simons Scholarship Fund. The Bull Simons Fund was created following the Iranian hostage rescue attempt, to provide college educations for the 17 children who survived the nine men killed or incapacitated at Desert One. The SOWF mission is to provide a college education to every child who has lost a parent in the line of duty while serving in Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations, and to assist in caring for the severely wounded. Nearly 70,000 military special operations and support personnel are stationed in units throughout the United States and overseas. The Warrior Foundation is committed to providing scholarship grants, not loans, to approximately 1,200 children. These children survive 1,100 Special Operations personnel who gave their lives in service to their country. To date, 338 children of fallen special operations warriors have graduated from college and 151 are currently attending college. The SOWF has 847 children currently in the program to educate. . SOWF is the recipient of its 13th consecutive 4-star rating, placing the SOWF among the top 1% of charities rated by Charity Navigator. History of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation

The Special Operations Warrior

Foundation (SOWF) began in 1980 as the

Col. Arthur D. "Bull" Simons Scholarship

Fund. The Bull Simons Fund was created

following the Iranian hostage rescue

attempt, to provide college educations for
