Pastor Francis L. Schroeder Holy Cross Lutheran—Nederland

“SIR, YOU HAVE SOME DIRT ON YOUR HEAD”

The Indianapolis 500 is the premier race in the US today. Every Memorial Day weekend millions will turn on their TVs or personal video devices and watch the “500”. The drivers, pit crews, owners, and spectators will wait as the 33 open-wheeled cars will line up in pit row, three-abreast in 11 rows, wait in uncomfortable silence until the public address announcer says these words, “Gentlemen, start your engines.”

My friends in Christ welcome to the month of May and it is time for you to start your engines. This month of May is the mirror-twin of the month of December. These two months have activities and events which will undoubtedly fill your planner to overflowing. So much to do in these 31 days of the month.

It is my prayer for all of you to remember and give the Lord thanks for all of His wonderful blessings. Another class will be confirmed, our Early Childhood Education will be finishing another year, and a brand new class of graduates will walk across the stage and receive their diploma. This truly is a month to celebrate. Join us for these events and recognitions at Holy Cross.

Until we see each other, may the Lord bless and keep you!

Welcome to CAMP Moosefeather Falls ! CAMP Moosefeather Falls offers a variety of fun for children 3 years old through the completed

5th Grade and any child/adult with special needs/disabilities. Campers will choose one

cabin to attend all week. In addition to cabin fun we learn about our great and awesome God at

our Assembly and Campfire!! Campers will meet Kody and Beez, our famous CAMP mascots. After

Assembly, campers will travel to their cabin of choice spending about 50 minutes enjoying their

specific activity. All campers will also have the opportunity to travel to the Dining Hall where

they will learn some fabulous camp prayers and have a yummy DINNER (not just a snack). When cabin time is finished, children will return to the

Family Life Center for Campfire and dismissal. Families are encouraged to join us for our

Assembly & Campfire each night and will be able to pick up campers from their specific cabins

after they are signed out. Please join us for a fun week at

CIRCUIT 34 MISSION COUNCIL NEWS

We continue to move toward our goal of establishing a new Hispanic congregation in Port Arthur. Pastor Casillas comes to our area for ESL classes each Wednesday. He is present at the Thrift Store on

Saturday to make contact with those who come there to shop. Sunday morning worship is held each week at Trinity at 9am. The tentative name of the new congregation is La Trinidad. They are in the pro-

cess of identifying members who could serve as officers of the congregation, so the group could apply to the Texas District for a charter. In addition to the Pastor, they would need a president, a secretary and a treasurer. We are in need of a bi-lingual teacher! Rosie Cabrera, a member at

Trinity, teaches an ESL Bible study each Tuesday from 9am to 10am. She teaches simple Bible stories using Sunday School lessons and some Arch Books. If you can help, please contact Pastor Tim Dinger at 409-983-1130 or [email protected]. As always, remember the Thrift

Store at Trinity. It is open Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:00am to 11:30am. They always need help at the store. Please consider giving a few hours of

your time to serve in this way. The Thrift Store sells any kind of items: clothing, household furnishings, dishes, tools, etc. Be sure all your unwanted items go to

the Thrift Store. Proceeds from the store fund the ESL program at Trinity. Please pray for the success of our mission outreach and consider how you and your

congregation can help with this kingdom work.

BIBLE SMUGGLING EXPERIENCE

Saturday, September 12

All ages are encouraged to join us for a fun, exhilarating and challenging

Bible Smuggling Experience you will NOT want to miss!

What is the Bible Smuggling Experience? It’s an EXPERIENCE that will simulate what it is like for the real people who risk their lives every day to be Christians

(ie: smuggle Bibles) into countries where being a Christian is illegal.

Students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade will form teams. Adult “tour guides” will take them through 10-12 different countries (which will be set-up throughout our church

grounds - both indoors and outdoors) while trying to "smuggle" Bibles. Border Patrol will be on the prowl too. The team with the most Bibles at the end of the game, wins!

Some countries are open countries where being a Christian is a freedom. But others are considered "closed" countries that have laws prohibiting even possession of a Bible or even

the admittance of being a Christian. Some countries may search and interrogate while others may encourage the sharing of the Gospel.

Our hope is to also have a Missionary here to speak on the

Sunday immediately after the Saturday event (during Worship).

HELP NEEDED While this event will not take place until the Fall of 2015, our initial planning meetings to prepare

for this experience will take place in May (TBA). Because of the delicacy of this topic we would like for families and individuals to have the summer to research their country (closed countries will re-

ceive a book with details and history) and make preparations so this experience can be a life-changing experience for all.

We are looking for families and individuals who would sponsor certain countries.

More details will be coming soon, but if you are interested in sponsoring a certain country, please contact DCE Kristy Witek.

Countries Germany (free), Philippines, China, Columbia, Iran, Egypt, India,

Italy (free), Vietnam, England (free), North Korea, Sudan

We will also be in need of Adult Tour Guides, Registration Team, Border Guards, “behind the scenes” crew and more.

Contact DCE Kristy at [email protected] for more info!
