Holy Father’s Prayer Intention
For June 2015
Universal Intention: That immigrants and refugees may find welcome and
respect in the countries to which they come.
Intention for Evangelization: That the personal encounter with Jesus may
arouse in many young people the desire to offer their own lives in priesthood
or consecrated life.
The Body and Blood of Christ
Corpus Christi
June6 & 7, 2015
Exodus 24:3-8 This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord h as made
with you.
Psalm 116 “I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the
Lord.”
Hebrews 9:11-15 The blood of Christ will cleanse our consciences.
Mark 14:12-16,22-26 This is my body. This is my blood of the covenant.
Today’s first two readings focus on the blood of sacrifice, and even the Gospel dwells longer on
Jesus’ words over the cup. Often when we think of the Eucharist we think only of the bread,
the Body of Christ. As we listen to God’s holy word proclaimed today, it might be good to
focus on the blood of sacrifice and the Blood of Christ. What is the significance for you of the
Blood of the New Covenant? Do you consume the Precious Blood at Communion? Why or
why not?
11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 13 & 14, 2015
Ezekiel 17:22-24
Psalm 92
2 Corinthians 5:6-10
Mark 4:26-34

Catholic Charities
Many of our elderly live alone or are alone most of the day and are in need of someone to visit them on a regular basis. In addition
to visits, services to escort the elderly are also needed for doctor visits and other pre-approved destinations. Catholic Charities will
process applications from OLGC parishioners and will conduct 1 1/2 hour training. If you know of someone who can benefit from
these services, or if you are interested in being a volunteer, contact Catholic Charities program volunteer Coordinator, Maureen
Caracciolo, at Ph. 527-4780 or [email protected].
I love Catholic Sacraments; the Real Presence is important to my
faith. Therefore, I am deeply concerned when we Catholics
(usually unintentionally) talk about Eucharist and the Real
Presence in a way that divides rather than unites.
We are being divisive when we belittle nondenominational
Christians who pass around small cups of juice. We are divisive
when we forget that some Protestant denominations also believe in
the Real Presence. (These denominations primarily differ on when
the bread becomes Jesus or how long it stays Jesus.) Divisive
when we tell our less active Catholic brothers and sisters that they
just need to try harder if they don’t understand and/or believe in
the Real Presence.
Know that I am in no way questioning Catholic doctrine. Indeed,
it is our doctrine that tells me that Eucharist is first, foremost and
always a unitive Sacrament. Jesus unites himself to us and we
unite ourselves to one another. That we cannot share Eucharist
with non-Catholics is a reality that demands our grief. Yes, let’s
be proud of this special life-giving gift. But, we disrespect this
holy Sacrament of union when we use it to feel superior to others.

“The Gift: True Love Waits”
Chastity Retreat for High School Youth, grades 9-12
Our Lady of Good Counsel * Saturday, June 20, 2015
8:45am - Welcome * 9:00am - 4:30pm - Retreat
5:00pm Mass (Blessing and Receiving of Rings)
6:00 - 7:30pm Family Potluck Celebration
We will be celebrating a discussing a gift we have been
given by God: The gift of our sexuality. It will
challenge each teen to treasure their God-given gift by
living a life of purity and chastity in every relationship
that they have. We will challenge the teens to realize
that, although the world may say that it is best to feed our
hunger for relationships with sexual relationships and
experiences, ultimately this hurts us spiritually,
emotionally, and even physically. We will introduce the
virtue of chastity which is the integration of our
sexuality into our spirit and body, allowing the spirit to
control our body and desires. This is a very
counter-cultural idea to many teenagers, but is very
important because it allows us to practice true freedom.
There will be a special blessing over all youth
participants at the 5:00pm Mass and they will also
receive promise rings. After the Mass, youth and their
families will gather in the Pastoral Center for a family
Potluck. All youth participants MUST be registered to
attend the retreat.

Nellani Tabada, Nicole Tabada, Joshua Kapika, Malcom
Zara, Deacon Tom Miyashiro, Nicole Santos, Tiffany
