A W O R D F R O M F R . S WA M Y The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph—December 26, 2021 Today's feast is a celebra!on of family: that unique nucleus of society that gives us life, nurture, and support throughout our journey on earth. Families are the first and best places for the love of God to come alive. In Ma#hew and Luke’s stories of Jesus birth and childhood (which were later addi!ons to those Gospels, drawn from the many stories about Jesus’ life that were part of the early Chris!an oral tradi!on that had developed), life for the family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus is difficult and cruel: they are forced from their home; they are innocent vic!ms of the poli!cal and social tensions of their !me; they endure the suspicions
of their own people when Mary's pregnancy is discovered; their child is born under the most difficult and terrifying of circumstances; they experience the agony of losing their beloved child. And yet, through it all, their love and faithfulness to one another do not waver. The Holy Family is a model for our families as we confront the many tensions and crises that threaten the stability, peace, and unity that are the joys of being a family. Jesus remains with us even when he seems most distant and farthest away, when he is nowhere to be found. He is with us in the love and compassion of family and friends, in the forgiveness we receive and give, in the generosity and healing we make happen even in the simplest and most hidden ways. With Jesus, we must be about “the Father’s house,” bringing the jus!ce, reconcilia!on, and compassion won by the cross into our families and communi!es. I wish you all A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR. I am taking vaca!on a%er Christmas. I am leaving for India on January 4th and come back on the 10th of February. I am really excited about my trip to India and to spend some !me with my mom, family, and friends. In my absence, Fr. Joe Pete will be covering all weekends Masses. For any emergencies, you can contact Fr. Jim Starasinich, the pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish.
Feast of the Epiphany—January 2, 2022 Christ our light has come into the world and shines in the darkness. On this feast of Epiphany, he manifests himself to us in a unique way. The feast of the Epiphany is the mystery of the Lord’s manifesta!on to all peoples, represented by the Magi, who came from the East to adore the King of the Jews. The word “epiphany” comes from Greek, meaning a “showing” or “manifesta!on.” Ma#hew, who recounts the event, stresses how the Magi arrived in Jerusalem following a star seen at its rising and interpreted as a sign of the birth of the king proclaimed by the prophets, that is of the Messiah. Originally, this feast, celebrated on the 6th of January, contained four great manifesta!ons of Jesus, namely the Na!vity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the coming of the Magi or the three kings, the Bap!sm of our Lord, and the wedding at Cana. Today, we celebrate the feast of the coming of the Magi in search of the newly born king and God revealing himself to the universe to a group essen!ally non-Jewish. The magi were strangers, foreigners, total outsiders who came to pay royal homage to this !-ny child. In the first reading of today, a prophet encourages the people to stand up and welcome a new day. They have be-come a light to the na!ons. They will see all the good things God has in store for them. In the second reading, Paul refers to the great mystery of God revealed to him, namely that God desires to save both Jews and gen!les in Christ. Gen!les are joined to Jews in experiencing God’s promise of salva!on. The Gospel of today tells us about the wise men from the East who followed a star in search of the newborn king of the Jews. When they find him, they worship him and pay him homage as they offer him gi%s of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Thank you: On this feast of light and reflec!ng on the Gi%s of the Magi, I want to express my thanks and gra!tude to all who sent Christmas cards, gi%s, candy, and the many signs of your love during this holy season of Christmas. I appreciate your generosity and kindness.
©LPi

We meet the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at St. Joseph’s Parish. For more informa!on, join us at a mee!ng or contact Deb at [email protected]. Our phone is 507-676-5508.

Mass Cancellations due to weather If the weather requires us to cancel Mass, we will make an announcement on KRFO 104.9, KOWZ 100.9, and KRUE Country 92.1. It will also be on KAAL TV and our Facebook page. Stay safe and God bless!
IRA Charitable Distribution A qualified charitable distribu!on (QCD) from an IRA is one of the most tax-advantaged ways to give charitably because it avoids tax that would otherwise be due on distribu!on. If you have an IRA and are age 70 1/2 or older, please consider making a charitable distribu!on directly to Sacred Heart from your IRA. We recommend that you check with your accountant or the person preparing your taxes to see if this works for you.

Bulletin Advertising Gina Shaughnessy, our parish representa!ve from LPi, is working on upda!ng our bulle!n ads for the upcoming year. We hope that parishioners who have a business will consider sponsoring an ad on the back of the bulle!n, since the revenue from the ads is what makes the bulle!n possible, at no cost to the parish. Also, if you know of any other business in the community that would like to support the parish, please let them know about this opportunity. Ads can be purchased for a business, family, or a sponsorship ad can be purchased suppor!ng community service organiza!ons such as emergency pregnancy counseling, the local food shelf, etc. Please give these ideas some thought. We need and appreciate your help! If you’re interested in ge<ng more informa!on, please either call Gina at 952-356-6488 or email her at [email protected].
