September 2015 Report
Introduction
This report highlights the major activities of DSPR Jordan during
September 2015 that focused on the following:
1- T.O.T for Promotion of Girls Education- Teachers component
2- Participatory training within Promotion of Girls Education
3- Life Skills Training workshops
4- Mother Support Groups and Children Forums
5- Free Medical Day
6- RRF for Iraqi refugees in Amman
7- Partners' visit
1- T.O.T for Promotion of Girls Education- Teachers component
DSPR Jordan provided training for (40) female facilitators at Talbiah
Vocational Training Center for two days on planning, implementing, and
evaluating skills for participatory training workshops within Promotion of
Girls Education component- Teachers.
The training included providing participants from Husn, Souf, Talbiah,
Madaba, and Zarqa governorates with skills to manage and facilitate the
discussion that is based on several questions forwarded to the teachers who
are going to participate in the coming workshops.
2- Participatory training within Promotion of Girls Education
DSPR Jordan conducted (6) training workshops in Irbid, Jerash, Amman,
Madaba, Zarqa, and Kerak governorates facilitated by (18) trainers with
participation of (225) teachers.
The workshops came out with very important recommendations and
suggestions for teachers role in promoting girls education and facing the
problem of leaving school early such as:
1- Design questionnaire forwarded to teachers since there is a difficulty for
teachers to leave schools during duty.
2- The importance of supporting schools in promoting girls education and
provide safety and health educational environment specially during cold
winter.
3- Provide daily meals for poor children
4- Conduct counseling and awareness programs for parents and improve
their relation with schools and teachers
5- The importance of parents commitments in attending meetings at
schools
6- Training teachers on teaching methods, interactive participatory
teaching methods.
7- Involving girls in decision making
3- Life Skills Training workshops
DSPR Jordan conducted (5) training workshops in Jerash, Amman, Irbid,
Madaba, and Zarqa, governorates with participation of (200) young Syrian
and Palestinian boys and girls on life skills.
The workshops focused on teaching youth skills on presentation skills. The
workshops adapted implementation and interaction approaches where the
chance was given to the youth to develop their own presentations, and
discuss it with others. This training will help these young boys and girls in
their school projects and programs
4- Mother Support Groups and Children Forums
DSPR Jordan conducted (3) training workshops in Irbid, Madaba, and Zarqa,
governorates with participation of (123) refugee Syrian and Palestinian
women on Mother Support Group.
The workshops focused on Psychological support for mothers. The
workshops discussed the challenges, problems and difficulties women are
facing being the family head and how they can face these challnges.
Also DSPR Jordan conducted (2) children forums in Jerash and Amman
governorates with participation of (110) children both genders at the age of
8-14. The forums included activities that focused on personal hygiene, its
concept, importance and focused on “ How I can stay clean” with practical
implementation on skin, hair, nails, odor care.
5- Free Medical Day
DSPR Jordan conducted in cooperation with Jordan University Hospital a
free medical day at DSPR Vocational Training Center in Souf camp in
Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Pediatric, and General Medicine for Syrian and
Palestinian refugees.
(4) Volunteer doctors, (4) nurses, (2) pharmacists, and the voluntary team
participated in this important event that served (388) beneficiaries
distributed on:
1- (188) on Gynecology
2- (75) Ophthalmology
3- (85) Pediatric
4- (40) General Medicine
6- RRF for Iraqi refugees in Amman
DSPR Jordan, LWF and IOCC finished the first phase of the program towards
Iraqi Refugees in Amman governorate that included supporting (220) Iraqi
families.
The requesting members (DSPR, LWF, and IOCC) distributed (220) food
coupons and (220) hygiene coupons on these families. Each coupon costs
about USD (185) that included food and hygiene items for the whole family
members.
Prior to the distribution event, the requesting members conducted field
survey, interviews, data collection to select the most needy families, and all
families were provided with guides to the distribution locations on where
they can get the coupons items.
Iraqi refugees expressed their appreciation to the requesting members and
to actalliance for this important support.
7- Partners' visit
DSPR Jordan, as a member of ACT/JSL Forum received Mr. Dick
Loendersloot – ICCO Regional Manager to follow up on the following issues:
1- Progress vs plan and re. the implementation of the activities earmarked
by ICCO Coop funded by Syria Joint Response / DRA (some 674k euro)
through SYR151 in Jordan
2- Challenges encountered and solutions / alternatives found
3- The deadline for interim narrative and financial reporting on SYR151.
4- Submitting a report of Resources Management Audit conducted by an
external auditor on each part of the ACT Appeal SYR151 programme.
5- Participate in the Sector Working Groups of SJR/DRA in Jordan (and
Syria).
6- A mid-term review of SJR/DRA will be organized on October 15 in Beirut.
7- The possibility for ICCO Coop to be invited to be part of Phase 2 of
SJR/DRA (March 01 - December 31, 2016).
8- Lessons learned from the process of preparing the joint concept note for
EU Madad Trust Fund in cooperation with ICCO Coop ?
