The Society Weekend of Love Suggestions
Here are some helpful hints for the weekend of “Love”. We here at The Society Page recommend a few things in South Jersey and Philadelphia - that are out of the box - but affordable and fun. We will start for those looking to do something healthy over the weekend in Stone Harbor. Run with your heart this Valentine’s Day by running the Cupid’s Chase 5K Run in Stone Harbor. Great prizes, giveaways and the best way to make a love connec-tion in the New Year. Walkers and on-site registration welcome.
If you register on-site, on the day of the run, the registration fee increases to $50. Registration begins at 8:00 am and the run begins at 10:00 am. The Cupid’s Chase 5K Run supports Commu-nity Options, Inc. (COI) COI is a national nonprofit organization that develops housing and em-ployment support for people with developmental disabilities.
After you get your exercise in, we make our way up to Atlantic City. De”LIGHT”ful Date Days at Absecon Lighthouse & Tony Boloney’s, February 14 through February 17. Couples looking for an economically friendly way to share a romantic date are in-vited to the South Inlet in AC for De”LIGHT”ful Date Days, Feb-ruary 14th through 17th . Enjoy a climb to the top of NJ’s tallest lighthouse at “two for the price of one.” Imagine that...something romantic, fun, physical, gets the heart pounding, and includes the best 360 degree views of Atlantic City, all for just $7! To
get warmed up after your climb, head over to Tony Boloney’s on Oriental Ave. (one block from the lighthouse) where couples can share a complimentary bowl of delicious and unique homemade soup. Lighthouse hours of op-eration are 11:00 am to 4:00 pm with the last climb at 3:30 pm. Absecon Lighthouse is located at 31 S. Rhode Island Ave. in Atlantic City. Call 609-449-1360 or go to www.abseconlighthouse.org for more information.
We make our way west into Hammonton, NJ where we sug-gest something a little more stan-dard. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the most romantic restaurant in South Jersey will once again host its very popular six course gourmet dinner with wine tast-ings. The menu features a special appetizer, homemade soup, pasta, intermezzo sorbet, salad and your entree choice. We now offer a full bar of Beer, Renault Wine and Liquor. Renault Gourmet Res-taurant will offer its six course gourmet dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Now is the time to make your reservations to come back and experience the time honored tradition of Gourmet Dining. Friday Night 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday Night 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm, Sunday Brunch 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, Sunday Night 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm, Live Entertainment Friday and Saturday Evenings: Jennifer Camillo Live in Concert Renault Winery Resort & Golf | 72 North Bremen Ave. | Egg Har-bor City | NJ | 08215Email/Web site: renaultwinery.com.
Crossing the bridge into Phila-delphia and climbing the famous “Rocky” stairs we recommend “Art After 5” at the Philadelphia Art museum. Friday evenings take on a whole new groove with “Art After 5,” a unique blend of entertainment from 5:00–8:45 pm. With an eclectic mix of international music on the first Friday of each month, and recog-nized and emerging jazz artists performing all other Fridays, it’s a stylish way to start your week-end.
The Great Stair Hall is trans-formed into an intimate cabaret for “Art After 5” performances. Starr Events serves up fun, shar-able snacks and light supper op-tions, as well as cocktails, wine and beer to compliment the live entertainment. Relax at a table with waiter service or stop by the bar.
Finally, because love is one of the classic ingredients of a good ghost story. This year, get in the Valentine’s Day spirit with ghost-ly tales of love that never dies, from the romantic and passionate to the cold-hearted and scandal-ous. Join us February 14th, 15th, and 16th for the fourth annual Valentine’s Ghost Tour. This unique and memorable events explores the secrets of Philly’s lovelorn past with a candlelight tour of two beautiful Society Hill mansions and historic Old Pine Cemetery, for love stories and the ghosts they leave behind. Tours begin at the Powell House 244 S. 3rd St. Philadelphia.

DJ XtinaAtlantic City’s Number One Female DJ
13
DJ Xtina is one of the hottest DJ’s and MC’s on the East Coast, and she was voted Atlantic City’s #1 female DJ. She is also a member of the elite BumSquad DJs, and the first female DJ in the region to be admitted. She makes frequent special guest appearances at the Pool After Dark Nightclub at Harrah’s, voted the #1 Mega Club in the United States and holds a residency at Sammy Hagar’s Beach Bar, voted Atlantic City’s #1 Beach Bar for 2012. In addition, she currently holds residencies at Revel Resort (Atlantic City), Harrah’s (Atlantic City) and House of Blues (Atlantic City). She is a featured DJ at nightclubs all over the Mid Atlantic Coast, and has been the featured DJ at the Grand Opening parties of numerous venues, including Revel Resort in Atlantic City, Room 12 in Philadelphia and H Lounge at Hollywood Resort in Charles Town, West Virginia.
The Society Page had the opportunity to speak to DJ Xtina...
How did you get started in this business? I grew up as a dancer and a performer. On stage in front of an audience is where I feel the most comfortable. I’ve always had a love for music and a knack for programming songs, so when I learned how to mix by ear, it just clicked. I really felt (and still do) that this is exactly what I’m meant to be doing.
What roadblocks do you face being a female in this industry? It’s common for people to write me off initially. Some assume that just because of my gender I wouldn’t know any music aside from pop radio mega hits. There can definitely be a negative stereotype associated with female DJ’s since many female DJ’s focus more on looks and flaunting their “assets” than developing their skills. I want to be known for being a great DJ, not just eye candy.
What are the advantages of being a female in this industry? We look better in heels? In all seriousness though, being a female can have its advantages. People don’t really give female DJ’s much initial credit. So when they see a female able to hold her own and rock a party, they are shocked. Talented female DJ’s are pretty rare and when they are noticed they’re able to advance quickly.
What do you like about performing in Atlantic City? Atlantic City is a destination city. Most people there are visitors celebrating something so they come ready to party. The diversity of the crowd is always exciting as well, it’s an open format DJ’s dream come true.
What venues are you looking forward to working at again this upcoming year? Some of my favorite spots to play are The Pool After Dark at Harrah’s and Sammy Hagar’s Beach Bar at Bally’s. I am also excited to play different cities around the country and expand my fan base nationally and eventually internationally.
What do you think makes you different from other talented female DJ’s in the area? Atlantic City has some of the best talent around but I am able to stand out because I bring a little bit of everything to the table. I have a distinct style when I MC and I am well versed in all genres of music. I can rock a party with any kind of crowd.
You spin open format music, but what would be on YOUR ideal playlist? I’m pretty eclectic when it comes to music for my own enjoyment. I really love disco and funk, and the music those genres inspired in later years. I have a crippling weakness for a funky bass line.
What formats have you found are most popular in Atlantic City? Most formats work in Atlantic City, as long as the crowd knows the song. People like to dance and sing along; they’re less inclined to dance to songs they’ve never heard.
Finish the sentence... My staple song that ALWAYS
gets the crowd moving is... Crazy In Love – Beyonce ft. Jay-Z. The intro is so powerful; you can’t help but be energized when you hear it.
What does “A Day In The Life Of DJ XTINA” look like? It looks like the polar opposite of stage DJ Xtina; I’m very laid back at home. I do yoga, I garden, and I’m a self-proclaimed amateur foodie. I do a lot of DJ work at home as well to stay current. I have a radio show on 98.7 FM The Coast on Saturday nights so I make mix sets for that. I’m also into remixing and production.
What do you hope your life looks like 10 years from now? I hope that I enjoy what I do then as much as I enjoy what I do now. I’m a very lucky woman; I have friends, family, and a boyfriend who love me and support me. If I have that I think I’ll have won. I wouldn’t hate having a house like Frank’s, though!

To Cupid or NOT to Cupid The Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day, is finally upon us. During this special time of year, heart shaped boxes filled with assorted chocolates, stupid looking stuffed bears holding signs that say “I Wuv You” and all types of absurd pink and red cards clutter the aisles of stores like Walgreens, Wal-Mart and Wall to Wall Sound and Video (wait...does that place still exist?). Anyway, to those who have a significant other, this time of year can be quite stressful ESPECIALLY for guys because picking the right gift can mean the difference between a night of pleasure or a night of unbridled pain (and NOT the good pain).
Truth be told, many women use Valentine’s Day as a measuring stick to determine whether she will remain “in a relationship” or switch her Facebook statusthink, “WHY am I in a relationship? If I was single, I wouldn’t have to spend $400 on this ridiculous Pandora bracelet. This raises an age old question, is it better to be someone’s valentine OR someone who Cupid missed with his arrow?
Whatever the correct answer is, people will ALWAYS assume the grass is greener on the other side. Single people ready to jump off bridges will say, “I wish I had a Valentine.” And those people in a relationship holding a wilted rose they purchased last minute at CVS may think, “Ugh, this is ridiculous. I kinda miss being single.” Truth is, there are pros and cons to both. For example: With all of the clubbing and par-tying, bsplurging for your loved one PALES in comparison to the 10 rounds of drinks you’d buy for your friends at Harrah’s Pool After Dark.
And on the other side of the spectrum, you have the seemingly happy couple having a nice Valentine’s Day dinner at a fancy restaurant, but when the other isn’t paying attention, they’re sneaking a peek at the waiter or waitresses ass walking past them. Bottom Line: Whatever your relationship status is this Valentine’s Day, embrace it, be happy and don’t go on a chocolate binge. Spring is almost here and if you’re not careful the only thing you’ll be loving is your Love Handles.

The Black Fairy is an exotic cocktail drink. In this exotic cocktail, we encounter a wonderful mix of flavors. The Absinthe and Whiskey are the major tones and the mint and lemon give a nice splash of freshness. A nice complex flavor overall. The inventor of this cocktail is Erika Fey of California.
Mixing Instructions:Start by muddling the blackberries and the mint in a cocktail shaker. Next, pour in the Absinthe, Whiskey, tonic water and lemon juice. Add some ice cubes into the shaker, and shake until nice and cold. Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a blackberry.
