THE THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Letter from our Pastor- Carta de nuestro Párroco

Dear Friends,

We all know about the whale…but do we know the rest of the story?

Our Scriptures today relate the story of Jonah’s preaching to Nineveh. Although he is a reluctant proph-et (because of his own prejudice!), Jonah brings God’s word to the Ninevites, and the people heed the prophet’s words. His example makes us ask ourselves, when are we called to be prophets in today’s world—in our homes, at work, in the Church, in our society? Jonas challenges us to realize that we too need to be more prophetic in working for peace and justice in our world.

We need to reflect and ask ourselves if we hear God’s word and accept the challenge to share it with others. It is pretty clear that, when we start to come out of this pandemic, we will be challenged to motivate people to come back to the active practice of the faith. Each of us has the mission to share the Good news of God’s love with others. If we seek to be Christ’s disciples, we will also seek to be messengers of his word. And Christ’s word will always be effective and bear fruit, even though we be imperfect, sometimes reluctant prophets. Would we allow God to work through us?

Peace and blessings,

Father Tom

Queridos amigos,

Paz y bendiciones,

Padre Tom

The Blessing of Throats for the Memorial of Saint Blaise

February 3rd is the Memorial of Saint Blaise. Traditionally, throats are individually blessed on that day using crossed candles with an accompanying prayer of blessing. Because of your safety and following Covid protocols, this year the priest will do one general blessing over the whole congregation at Mass. Thank you for your understanding.
