Stewardship Reflections: “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” (Luke 12:34)

Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are you investing in building up a heavenly treasure? To invest more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world.

From Our Social Justice Group Our Parish Social Justice Group meets monthly to look at ways we can put the following principles of the Catholic Social Teaching into practice in our parish and our broader community.

One of the principles is Stewardship of Creation: The goods of the earth are gifts from God, and they are intended by God for the benefit of everyone. There is a “social mortgage” that guides our use of the world’s goods, and we have a responsibility to care for these goods as stewards and trustees, not as mere consumers and users. How we treat the environment is a measure of our stewardship, a sign of our respect for the Creator. We must all respect, care for and share the resources of the earth, which are vital for the common good of people. Care for animals and the environment is a common and universal duty, and ecological problems call for a change of mentality and the adoption of new lifestyles.

The next Social Justice Group meeting is 7:30pm, 22nd August in the Fr. Fitzpatrick Room. All are welcome.

Confirmation Candidates Today we welcome our young parishioners preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

This weekend they will receive a card of Divine Mercy for their Spiritual Passport as a sign of their preparation for the Sacrament.

Faith Friends on the boards at the back of the church are pictures of our students preparing for Confirmation on 16th August. You are invited to write your name on the sheets as a promise to pray for them during this time of preparation.

Changes to daily Masses: Thursday 15 August, The Solemnity of the Assumption, the

morning Mass will be at 9.15am (not 8am) with the school community. The Solemnity of the Assumption is a Holy Day of Obligation. There will also be Mass at 7.30pm in the evening.

THANK YOU to those who have volunteered to assist on a roster as sacristans for some weekend Masses. This is a great help and service to the parish and the priests. We are still in need of a couple of more volunteers for Sunday morning and some weekdays. Please see one of the priests if you can help out..

Note: This weekend I will be at Corpus Christi College, our seminary in Carlton for a retreat for young men. Please keep us in your prayers. Fr David Cartwright

YOUTH GROUP “Light in the World” Grade 5 to Year 9’s students from St Fidelis Parish, we will have our next gathering Saturday 17th August at 6.30pm-8pm in School Hall. The NET Team from the Archdiocesan Office of Youth will be leading the session.

fantastic evening last Saturday for our Pizza & Pasta night. We had over 230 people present and we all enjoyed good food and music and company. Thank you to all those who came along for the night, and the many school families who were present.

CHANGE OF TIME MONDAY ITALIAN PRAYER GROUP
