Garage Sale 2020 – Did you know that on the day of the sale we have over 100 parishioners helping with the sale. Throughout the week volunteers come in and help us set the place up and ensure that all items are in working condition, that items are clean and well

presented. We have a list of unwanted items because they don’t sell and they take up important real estate. Our sale is well known in the city because we offer good clean working items at a great price.

We are looking for a person(s) to help us with advertising and marketing our garage sale that won’t cost us. If you know of places we can advertise free or ways to get the word out on a wider scale please contact us at the office. We need to increase the profit margin of $12,000.00 - $13,000.00. While it is great this is where we are stuck. This says to us that we are missing segments of the London population that could help increase our profits. Remember the profits go to the parish debt. Your help and ideas would be appreciated.

We will be having an Altar Serving Training day for all current and new Altar Servers on Saturday, May 9th from 10 am to 12 noon, followed by a pizza lunch. Servers must be a baptized Catholic, with a minimum age of 7 years (having received 1st Communion, or about to in the spring). This is a great opportunity for siblings and families to serve in a ministry together.

Adult Altar Servers are needed during the day to serve when we have funerals.

Please let us know if you are interested in signing up for this day and helping out with this Ministry, by contacting the Parish Office 519-471-7022 or [email protected].

Enviro Tip: Create an environmentally friendly home by not buying items

that endanger the planet. Some of these include: Styrofoam cups, paper

towels, plasc cutlery, as well as package foods and products. Instead,

choose compostable plates and containers, and buy fresh produce. Choose

cloth over paper, and set a good example for the kids as well.

Pope Francis' Tips for Lent - Help the Poor - “In the poor and outcast we see Christ’s face; by loving and helping the poor, we love and serve Christ. Our efforts are

also directed to ending violations of human dignity, discrimination and abuse in the world, for these are so often the cause of destitution. When power, luxury and money become idols, they take priority over the need for a fair distribution of wealth. Our consciences thus need to be converted to justice, equality, simplicity and sharing.” – Lenten Message, 2014

Get rid of the lazy addiction to evil - “[Lent] is a ‘powerful’ season, a turning point that can foster change and conversion in each of us. We all need to improve, to change for the better. Lent helps us and thus we leave behind old habits and the lazy addiction to the evil that deceives and ensnares us.” – General Audience, March 5, 2014

Don’t remain indifferent - “Indifference to our neighbor and to God also represents a real temptation for us Christians. Each year during Lent we need to hear once more the voice of the prophets who cry out and trouble our conscience. God is not indifferent to our world; he so loves it that he gave his Son for our salvation.” –Lenten Message, 2015

Everyone can agree that our Marian Gardens look beautiful year round. We have a great group of volunteer gardeners that work from spring into the fall season to make this area of our grounds a space that we can all be very proud. Many summer evenings, you can find our neighours enjoying the area as well. Our volunteer gardeners will soon begin to plan which annuals and perennials to plant in our Marian Gardens for all to enjoy. Donation envelopes are available at the back of the church should you wish to help us with the purchase of plants and other gardening needs. Please contact the Parish Office 519-471-7022 or [email protected] should you have any questions, or would like to volunteer your time to our Marian Gardens. Floral Donation Envelopes are available at the back of the Church. These donations will be used for the purchase of flowers and various decorative articles to enhance our liturgies at Easter and throughout the year. You can make the donation in memory of a deceased loved one. Please remember to put the name of your loved one on the back of the envelope. Looking for healing? Closure? If you are divorced, separated, or civilly remarried, consider applying for a declaration of nullity (an “annulment”). The Roman Catholic Diocese of London would like to help you. If you are interested in a Declaration of Nullity or if you simply have questions, please give us a call at 519-439-1553. There is no obligation in calling, and the process is free of charge.

Did you know that we have monthly, pre-authorized payments available for

Sunday Offertory, the Renovation Fund and other special collections? If you are interested in using this method to make your donations to the Parish, please contact Pam in the Parish Office 519-471-7022. You can start this at any time of the year. In hospital – If you, or a family member, are in the hospital you have access to the Chaplaincy Office to make arrangements to have communion brought to you during your stay in the hospital. You may also ask for the Sacrament of the Sick. Our Diocese has a dedicated chaplain at the hospitals. Please avail yourself of this service. Fr. Don is also happy to come and anoint you with the Sacrament of the Sick.

The seringueiros: protectors in peril

On reserves created by the Brazilian state, the seringueiros tap rubber trees and gather nuts and fruits for subsistence. But their lands are now coveted by powerful loggers, hunters, ranchers, soybean farmers, etc. They are facing increasing threats, intimidation and persecution. Despite these hardships, the seringueiros prefer remaining in place to tend their beloved forest. Development and Peace’s partner, the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT), supports the seringueiros by documenting violations of their rights and by helping them legally contest the seizure of their lands. “Those who want to help us should immediately come to see what is

happening here so that we may keep the forest standing.” – Ederson Chaves Dias, seringueiro, Angelim Reserve, Machadinho d’Oeste

Watch the seringueiros’ testimony at devp.org/campaign/seringueiros.

Donations for Share Lent can be made by placing your Share Lent envelope in the Sunday Offertory. Donations by cheque are to be made payable to St. John the Divine Parish.

ALPHA is coming to St. Justin’s starting Thursday, March 26, 2020 to June 2020. What is ALPHA? It is an opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. We will meet at 6:00 PM for a meal. We will then view a film and discuss it. The evening will be done by 8:30 PM.

This is a great opportunity to invite friends and families who have fallen away from practicing their faith and/or those who have no faith to join in open discussion of critical questions. We provide free childcare and we have Spanish speaking table host who lead discussions in Spanish and English. Please fill in an ALPHA registration available on the Welcome desk and drop it off at the Welcome Desk or the parish office. INTERESTED IN HELPING with ALPHA? We need cooks, set and clean up teams. Please take this opportunity to share your talents to bring Christ to all. Questions? Please call St. Justin’s at 519-685-2795, leave a message or email [email protected] and we will get back to you quickly.
