The Pearl prides itself on being an in-clusive school that meets the individual needs of its students. Everyone in our community shares the belief of Sheikh Mohammed and provides a community where we allow everyone to thrive and become the best that they can be. This is one element that makes The Pearl so special.

Last Weeks of Term …

The children have now completed their GL assessments and the outcomes are outstanding – well-done children and teachers. The effort the children have put on their learning has resulted in the best GL results we have ever achieved. Over the next few weeks, the teachers will be combining these assessment re-sults to the observations they make in the classroom to enable them to make

the final grading for the school reports and end of year results. These last few weeks are incredibly important for the education of the children especially as we have such a long summer break as such we expect 100% attendance until the 4th July.

Ramadan Collections

If you have not already contributed to our Ramadan collection, and wish to do so, please bring you Red Crescent tin or donation for our learning bags to recep-tion when we return to school. We will arrange the collect on the donations af-ter Thursday 13th June.

Mustafa and Murtaza both won the ‘Player of the Module’ award from Pass Abu Dhabi. They both con-sistently demonstrated effort, fan-tastic attitide and hard work.

Well done!

Must need:

2 years experience of working in a school, nursery or similar profession

Excellent spoken and written English

If a parent of the school, please note that you will not be placed in the same key stage your children or family members.

The working day is 7.30am to 3.30pm - the full staff year. This includes a week before and after the school is open to pupils.

This week the children continued with the tale of ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. They used the language from the sto-ry during small word play and role play and many children have been drawing pictures of the characters.

In Maths we reviewed 2D ‘flat’ shapes and introduces 3D ‘fat’ shapes. Our sound is ‘w’ for wand, window and wind.We continued to rehearse every day for our class assembly. This will take place on June 20th at 10 am in the school hall. All parents are invited. Please remem-ber to send in your child’s costumes in a named bag as soon as you have it.

This week we are concluding our enquiry question ‘What will we find in the garden?’ We are reviewing all that we have learnt during this topic. We have also been learning about plants and seeds and have listened to the stories “The Tiny Seed” and “Sam’s Seeds”. We have discovered that plants can have life cycles just like animals . We are planting our own cress seeds so we can observe the stages of the life cycle for ourselves and learn how to take care of plants.

REMINDERS

A gentle reminder as the weath-er warms up that no hat= no play. Each child should have their hat with them to school every day and a bottle of water.

We encourage healthy eating at The Pearl Academy so we ask you to pack a healthy snack, which could be ei-ther fruit or salad, such as an apple or carrot sticks. For lunch, please provide your child with something substantial, for example, sandwich-es or pasta.

A reminder that if your child can not attend swimming for medical rea-sons then a medical note should be provided. Please ensure your child has a hat and goggles every week for swimming.

This week marks the end of Ramadan.

The children have now completed their English and Maths assessments, we are delighted to say that children performed well.

This week in Maths we also began to learn about symmetry.

In English we focused on the features of diary writing. The children wrote a diary entry about the Great Fire of London pretending to be Samuel Pepys.

In Topic we continued our exploration of ‘Is fire always dangerous?’ We started planning the creation of our Tudor Houses. When we return from the holidays we will be making these houses!

Year 3 have had another fabulous week this week. Well done again for all your hard work with the assessments in class!

In Maths we recapped time and looked at converting analogue and digital times. We reinforced our learning about 5 minute intervals and how to correctly say the time depending on what side of the clock the big hand is on.

In English we have continued our Adventure Stories. Using ‘Amy’s Adventure in Egypt’, we have finished writing our stories, ensuring we have included all the important features of adventure stories.

Have a healthy, restful and enjoyable break and we will see you again on Sunday 9th June 2019.

In English we will be beginning a new genre and will start looking at persuasive writing.

In Maths we will be revisiting problem solving and using and applying our number knowledge with measure, time, fraction and number word problems.

In Science we will continue to explore ‘Forces’ and will conduct an experiment involving friction.

During Topic, our Ancient Egyptian research and exploration will continue. The children have been discovering some fantastic facts!

YEAR FOURThis week, Year 4 pupils have continued to work hard in a variety of subjects.

In English, children were able to show off their beautiful writing skills whilst reflecting on the future of the planet. Child worked tirelessly to create some powerful and influential poetry.

In Mathematics, we continued to solve a wide variety of problems, using all of our mathematics skills from all areas of the curriculum.

In Science, we completed our end of year assessments, where we displayed our fantastic knowledge of the Year 4 science curriculum.

YEAR FIVEThe last week of Ramadan has been a busy one, where the children have continued to work ex-tremely hard, especially during both their Maths and Science assessmentss. The teachers are extremely proud of their determination and resilience throughout the English, Maths and Sci-ence tests the past few weeks.

This week’s learning:

In English, we reviewed our learning on Explanation Texts. We used all the necessary text features, including grammar features, to write an explanation text on a chosen topic of our choice. After writing it, we worked together to edit and improve our work, realising that it helps to read our work aloud when making changes.

In Mathematics, we have reviewed our learning on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, and converting measures. We also focused on our Mental Maths skills and learning appropriate techniques to solve questions quickly without using written calculations.

In Science, we finished our Space topic by learning about why and how we have day and night and the different sizes of the planets and their distance away from each other.

In English, we will begin learning about Performance Poetry. We will learn to recognise different poetic features, how they are effectively used in performance poetry and have a go at writing our own poems using these features.

In Maths, we will be continuing to review our learning for the year by looking back at Geometry, specifically area and perimeter.

In Science, we will be returning to our South America enquiry. We will be focusing on learning about different biomes, specifically the rainforest biome and how it can change after deforestation.

يف مادة اللغة االنجليزية سوف نبدأ التعلم عن كتابة الشعر . سنتعلم كيف

منيز الخصائص الشعرية املختلفة ، وكيف يتم استخدامها بفعالية يف كتابة

الشعر، وسنقوم بكتابة الشعر الخاص بنا باستخدام هذه الخصائص.

يف مادة الرياضيات سنواصل مراجعة ما تم تناوله خالل العام من خالل النظر إىل

علم الهندسة وعىل وجه التحديد املساحة واملحيط.

يف مادة العلوم سنعود إىل بحثنا عن أمريكا الجنوبية. سوف نقوم بالرتكيز عىل

التعلم عن املناطق األحيائية املختلفة ، وتحديدا املنطقة األحيائية للغابات املطرية

وكيف ميكن أن تتغري بعد إزالة الغابات.

After the Eid break our times will return back to normal, with the school day beginning at 7:30am and finishing at 2:20pm.

We wish all our Year 5 families Eid Mubarak and hope you have a rest-ful, enjoyable holiday.

YEAR SIXThis week in English, the Year 6 children have been working on editing their work. The children are encouraged to read back over all work they produce to see how they can improve. This is also done with their peers to encourage constructive criticism.

In Mathematics, we completed the last of our assessments - well done to all the children for all their hard work. We also started some investigations putting our maths skills to the test.

In Art and Topic, we have been looking at the work of Andy Warhol, producing pop art comic strips. Next week the children will have a go at creating self-portraits in his style.

Production rehearsals are going well, with the whole cast now beginning to perform together.

Eid Mubarak everyone for next week.
