Mark your calendars for October 14-17, 2010 and the official celebration of the 90 th anniversary of the founding of Iota Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau. We are working with the Coe Alumni Office to incorporate our planning with their 2010 Homecoming activities and special celebration of the “Decade of the ‘70s”. Tentative plans include an alumni golf outing, special evening all-Phi Tau reception and banquet; various “era” receptions and tailgating for the Homecoming Football game, and more! (Hawkeye Fans – not to worry, the Hawks have an away game at Michigan) As soon as you make a decision that you plan to attend, please pass that information along so that we can list you in the next newsletter under “Phi Taus Planning to Attend”! Also – the more brothers that you can either forward this email to, or print it off and snail mail it to – the better chance that we can really have a smashing event! Some of you may remember that at our 75 th Anniversary (1995) – Phi Tau generated the largest single group alumni gathering in the history of Coe – some 170 of us got together for a great weekend of reminiscing and celebrating. Get the word out NOW so that your Phi Tau classmates will be joining YOU on campus one more time! ARNOLD ZIFFEL LIVES! That haughty Phi Tau tradition of the 1970s and ‘80s lives on in the presence of A. Ziffel Investments, Inc. – an investment club established in 1999 by the former members of the Iota Chapter Housing Corp. of the 1980s & ‘90s. In addition to those pictured above, other active Phi Tau members of A.Z. Investments include: John Roth ’79, Bruce Benson ’85, Brett Bednar ’84, Tom Pientok ’85 & Kent Mahurin ’85. Phi Taus who have moved on from A. Ziffel investing include: Kent Cooling ’78, Ron VanHoeck ’82, Jim Smith ’78, Mike Vance ’85, and Jeff Croy ’77. At one of the first meetings, when options were being weighed to select a name for the new club – Jack Minder ’81 noted…”There is only one real choice…”, and thus the club was launched into the annals of IRS-dom! A bit of history is perhaps due for many of you…..The Arnold Ziffel Party was started in the early ‘70s and was second only to Spring Formal as the social event of the year. Some said that it “sort of” replaced the infamous “Grave Affairdoings of the ‘60s? “Ziffel” morphed into many forms prior to it’s eventual demise in the early ‘90s – a great run for an original classic event. So, Arnold Ziffel and Phi Tau at Coe have been synonymous for nearly 40 years….almost as long as the “YO”! To the founders of The Ziffel Event – thanks for the memories – from several Phi Tau eras!
