A long, lean silhouette is not only so

right now, it’s also so flattering. One

of the quickest, most foolproof ways

to achieve the look is with a skinny

pantsuit. Since this season marks the

first time Rochas designer Olivier

Theyskens showed a pair of pants

on the runway, a Rochas suit is one

of the freshest interpretations of the

Michele Barouh was practically born clutching a diamond watch. Her father andmother, Jack and Rita, founded Michele Watches when she was a toddler, and withthe exception of her first timepiece—a Tasmanian Devil® cartoon digital her dadpicked up in Hong Kong—Michele has been wearing the family’s unique designsever since. The sporty, luxurious watches were introduced in the U.S. in 1999, andthe brand enjoyed immediate success among affluent, young trendsetters. Now, withthe debut of her first jewelry collection, it’s Michele’s turn to shine.

“My father’s lifelong passion has been watches, and although I love themtoo, I have always dreamed of creating a jewelry line,” says Michele.Like the timepieces, the premier collection of gold charms combinesclassic elegance with a high-fashion sensibility. For the few whoaren’t familiar with Michele Watches, devotees build awardrobe of the interchangeable straps, which are availablein new shades each season. In the jewelry collection, charms, in a variety of colors and motifs, are theconvertible element.

In a nod to the current penchant for bullion, the debut pieces of her jewelry line are 18-karat yellow gold withrose-cut semiprecious stones that make for a brilliantcheckerboard effect. Lemon citrine, rose de France, andblue topaz are among the gems that complement thepredominantly subdued palette of designers’ looks forspring. Tiny clasps allow you to attach charms to thecollection’s necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings.Looking ahead to fall, Michele plans to add white goldand more diamonds to the mix.

“I want the jewelry to become as well-known as the watches. That’s my ultimate goal,” states Michele. There’s no denying the appeal of her charms. And on Michele’s watch, no doubt they’ll succeed.

The New York skyline serves as a spectacular backdrop (Mother Nature deserves a shout-out for the preternaturally blue sky).

Karl Lagerfeld focuses his lens on model Gemma Ward.

One of the looks from the new collection—perfect for day or night, or even a rooftop party

The project is still under wraps, so we can’t give youdetails yet, but we’re taking you behind the scenes ofour recent photo shoot. And the photographer?None other than Mr. Lagerfeld himself.

Over two days last fall (Halloween andNovember 1, to be precise), Mr. Lagerfeld shotthe NM advertising campaign that bows later thisspring. His location of choice was a rooftop inManhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, affordingvast views of the famous skyline. Models Gemma Ward and Brad Kroenig slipped into thenew Karl Lagerfeld designs and posed amongvast blocks of air-conditioning units (which youwon’t see in the final prints).

The new collection, which Mr. Lagerfeld createdwith the Neiman Marcus customer in mind, debutsduring The Hip Event next month and will beavailable in Contemporary Sportswear. The linefeatures great dresses, tops, jeans, and more.Word of the collaboration has already begun totravel, sotto voce, of course, since no one’s seenthe clothes yet—except for you, right here in ThePoint, as an InCircler. It’s up to you if you want toclue in your friends. It’s nice to share, but if youkeep it hush-hush, there might be more for you tosnap up when the collection becomes available.

SINGING

Certain color combinations are natural feel-good duos. Take blue and white. When paired together, the two create an effect that’s crisp, clean, and uplifting.Perhaps Louis Armstrong was onto this when he sang, “I see skies of blue andclouds of white . . . and I think to myself, ‘What a wonderful world.’” With blueand white, it is a wonderful world, on the inside as well as out. Whether the pairevokes associations with sky and clouds or sea and sand, this color matchrefreshes interiors. The words easily roll off the tongue: Blue and white. It’s aclassic.

White and blue, on the other hand, is something completely different. If blueand white is classic, then white and blue is now. Express the duo that way—withwhite in first place—and classic evolves into au courant. White is everywherethese days, washing living rooms, studies, kitchens, bedrooms, and baths with

pristine crispness. An ensemble of pearl, snow, ivory, and lily whites brings aluminous sense of order and light to any space.

Adding white accessories to a white background torques the white factor toyet another level. By selecting objets with appealing textures and sinuous shapes, with a variety of forms and functions, the impact of well-designed whiteaccessories heightens. Above, exquisite dimensional detailing adds interest to a Regards platter rimmed with watchful faces, as well as to a ceramic gourd-shaped Pols Potten vase decorated with a spray of white flowers. Moving evenmore boldly into three dimensions is a Dolfi bowl surrounded by doves perchedon the edge. At the other end of the spectrum of white accents is a sleek, contemporary egg-shaped vase by Belgian glass designer Henry Dean. With itsrecumbent attitude, this exquisitely simple vase adds an element of surprise.

WITH LIGHT, NEUTRAL INTERIORS ASPOPULAR AS EVER, THE STAGE IS SET FORACCENTS WITH WONDERFUL SHAPES,TEXTURES, AND A SPLASH OF COLOR.

Now that top billing has been given to white, the secondary party steps in.Even when used minimally, blue has a striking effect against whites and creams.Dolfi introduces blue in dainty roses and latticework on an oval ceramic vase.Throughout centuries of porcelain production, the oriental aesthetic has capitalizedon the appeal of white and blue, a look translated into a dragon-adorned NMExclusive vase. For accents on furniture, add Ankasa pillows featuring blueembroidery and beadwork on milky linen. An occasional marine-blue accent, suchas the Dolfi bowl with exterior nubs and roped handles, serves as a visualexclamation point.

Once the white-and-blue spin on blue and white has been firmly established, earthy neutrals are added to keep things from becoming too precious. Anytendency to stiffness melts away with a highly polished hand-rubbed container

fashioned from a hollow tree trunk, ready for functional use to hold kindling, magazines, or other items that need bundling. A tray by Mary Jurek Design Inc.introduces the coolness of metal through stainless steel hammered and polished by hand. This theme continues in a small Regards pitcher with its original claycolor left intact. And nothing could be more natural than fabulous Frances Stoiabookends made of horns shed by water buffalo. Ah yes, what a wonderful world it is.

Blues fan Carol Meredith is the author of several books, including Room byRoom: Contemporary Interiors. She has also served as an editor at New England Living magazine and has written about design for Boston magazine and the Boston Globe.

A flirty sleeveless dress with cutout shoulders has its charms, but there’s nothingcute about an errant bra strap—they make T-backs for that.

When your neckline is plunging to dangerous lows, you want that push-up tocreate some drama—and you don’t want a little pink bow spoiling the effect. An invisible strip between the cups solves the problem.

When you’re braving the elements bare-shouldered, there’s no choice but towear something strapless underneath. Just try finding one that doesn’t slidedown yet offers support without leaving you looking like you’re going to pop.

THE ART OF FIT FROM A TO G

Every season we’re faced with matching our curves todesigners’ new silhouettes. To update your lingerie wardrobeand ensure a great fit, get some advice from the experts.According to Ann Cox, buyer for NM Intimate Apparel,

“A WOMAN’S BRA SIZE CHANGESSEVERAL TIMES DURING HER LIFE.”

It’s very unlikely that you’re an exception. So, if you’re spillingor gapping, if bra straps are leaving you scarred for life orsimply retreating as they slide off your shoulders, if the back ofyour bra is riding up or squeezing the breath out of you, it’stime for a little visit with a sales associate in Intimate Apparel. In fact, a professional fitting once a year is a must. Your newwardrobe will look as good on you as it did on the runway, and you’ll look like you’re in terrific shape—even if you aren’t.

Actually, the biggest challenge with foundations is concealingthe fact that you wear them at all. The goal is to look likenature has been very, very kind. A proper fit is a goodstarting point, and the rest is accomplished with amazingmaterials and technology. “Ultrafine knits called microdeniersare so lightweight they’re nearly invisible,” says Cox.

And spandex, that incredible fiber of the gods, smoothscontours without excruciating pain. You don’t want to look or feel cinched. You want to be cinched.

There are three steps to a better fit, experts say. First, benddeeply at the waist before fastening your bra—thisautomatically centers it and distributes weight evenly. Second, buy a size that fits you comfortably when fastened on thecenter hook, making sure the band is perfectly horizontal andin the middle of your back. Third, adjust the straps for comfortand smooth any puckering in the cups.
