What are robots?Did you know… Robot comes from the Czech word “robota” meaning ‘Forced work

or labor’ Robots can be programmed by a computer. Which makes creating

instructions very simple Robotics—the study of robots— progresses more and more each

year The demand for robots is growing-in factories, the military and even

hospitals

Robots in the future will be more like humans than ever before, gradually getting better each day.

Robots can be used to service people and make life easier

Robots People

Why do we need them? Robots versus People

Can do repetitive actions/jobs without slowing down or stopping

Are highly accurate consistently

If broken, robots can be fixed

After the cost of making them made they work for free

Can go to dangerous places—Mars, volcanoes, deep water explorations and other areas to dangerous for humans

Get tired of doing repetitive jobs after awhile

make more mistakes

Can get injuries that require them to quit

Require pay

Limited to safe environments and are at risk of death when entering dangerous places

Versus

Robots today are used by militaries for precise weapons, drones, planes and soon, even as ground troops

Robots also perform precise surgery’s in hospitals today or robotic limbs can replace lost ones. They also have physical therapy machines made to help people rehabilitate themselves after various accidents

Robots are used in some industries for assembly lines for doing repetitive jobs at a much faster and accurate rate

Where are they used today?

Robots have brain systems that process information. Robots can process and use information in milliseconds and perform actions accurately

Actions are performed using a body structure and muscle system A power source is required to keep a robot working Sensors are used to give the robot information about himself and

the surrounding area

How are they used?

We can work along side robots existing together in the world They can do things we never thought would be possible

essentially making a better tomorrow. Robotics can be used to make helpful devices for people with

disabilities who normally can’t do things themselves, such as the Google spoon…

Robots – The positive aspects

Link

Page 8: The Power of Information: Robotics BY MICHAEL ANSBRO

• Robots can be a great help but help comes at a cost• This cost is humans being replaced by machines who can do the

job better than us• Also Robots are very expensive to make and we still have not

made any robotics to their full potential• Once robots can be made better and cheaper we will be replaced

more and more in the work place

Robots – The negative aspects

Page 9: The Power of Information: Robotics BY MICHAEL ANSBRO

• Robots have the capability to process information like a computer and gradually they are gaining the abilities to move like a human

• Even though they aren’t everywhere yet, it is important to look into the future to make sure we utilize robotics for the right applications and ensure society can still flourish with people and robotics together.
