November 2015 The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer, and we are quickly entering into my most favorite time of the year, the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Season. I always en-

joy this time of year for the gathering together with family and friends during these two Holiday events. Even though we still have two weeks to the first Holiday, I’m already preparing to get out of storage 6 of my boxes containing hundreds of outdoor lights. I enjoy seeing my house, and all the houses in our neighborhood, with lighted outdoor decorations. It really adds to the feel of the Holiday season. It is also a pleasure to see our Club house come alive with decorations, lights and Holiday spirit. During the Holiday Sea-son our Club house always seems to feel more warm, cozy and extra friendly. Please be sure to take the opportunity with family and/or friends to spend time enjoying our restaurant and lounge facilities during this festive time of year.

The safety of Club members is an important issue at Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club. Recently after a number of parking lot car break-ins, our maintenance staff replaced new and brighter lights in our taller parking lot lamp poles. It has done a wonderful job at nighttime to help alumi-nate our parking lot. It is important when parking your car or when leaving the Club house going back to your car that you maintain awareness of your surroundings and to be on the lookout for any suspicious activities. If you see anything or you perceive something that appears to not be right, please return to the clubhouse and imme-diately call the 911 emergency number.

I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank our Social Committee for the fabulous job they have done throughout the year to organize and implement the various social activities for Club members, and guests, get to enjoy.

This past October the Social Committee, along with Jeanne Walker (catering and events manag-er) staged two highly successful and well attend-ed events; Oktoberfest and Scareyoke. It takes a lot of time and commitment for the members on the Social Committee to stage an event. If you missed either of these events you missed an op-portunity to experience what the social side of our Club is all about. If you have not taken the time to attend Club social events I highly recom-mend you do the next time something comes up. The next time you see a Social Committee mem-ber, please take the time to thank them for their service. The Social Committee – Phil Matonti, Pam Schneider, Kathy Reed, JoAnn Harrell, Deb-bie Murphy, Roberta Chargin, Debra Young, Stephanie Keating, Diana Rawlings.

On Tuesday, November 10th, all Marines and for-mer Marines will be celebrating the 240th birth-day of the United States Marine Corps.

Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th. All Club members that are veterans will receive a complementary dinner and there will a compli-mentary desert for the guests of the veterans. Be sure and make reservations for this special even-ing dinner.

In a couple of weeks it will be the Thanksgiving Holiday. On behalf of my wife Kathy and myself, we would like to extend to you, your family and loved ones, our best wishes for a wonderful and enjoyable Thanksgiving.

As always, please feel free to share with me your thoughts, ideas, or concerns.

Wow, I cannot believe it is November al-ready. Some of our members have already gone south for the winter, hopefully they arrived safely. For those that are braving the Pacific Northwest winter, don’t forget a hot meal or a Hot Tottie makes the day better. We will be bringing out some older classic comfort food menu items and we will always have hot coffee brewing.

Thanksgiving is coming up fast, and in the next week we will be sending out an order sheet for a Thanksgiving feast for you and your family. If you don’t want to do all the prep work and wake up at 4:00 in the morning to get the dinner done, preorder a prepared meal for you and your family. If you want to make the meal, but just don’t have time for homemade desserts – don’t buy them from a store. Our head

baker would love to make a creative homemade dessert to finish off your fami-ly dinner.

Veterans Day dinner is scheduled for the 11th of November, we look forward to seeing all our members come out for the event. Just a reminder, Veterans Day is great way to say thank you to all the men and women that served in the armed forc-es to protect this country. We should be thanking those that served every day for the freedom we enjoy living in the United States.

December 5th will be the annual Santa Breakfast and the signup sheet is located at the hostess station in the restaurant.

From your Catering & Events Manager / Jeanne Walker

We began and ended October with sever-al big Club events including the Twin Lakes Amateur, Oktoberfest, Center Stage Mur-der Mystery Dinner Theater, and Scar-eyoke! All well attended, successful and fun!

Coming up in November there are large events scheduled with estimated guest counts of over 100 on every Saturday night leading up to Thanksgiving, and two large Sunday events with counts over 100!

We have beautiful banquet & meeting space, terrific banquet service staff and a wonderful Chef ~ all necessary ingredients for a great event!

We still have banquet space available in December for your business or family holi-day party ~ call me and I’ll be happy to check date availability for your event.

November is one of my favorite months of the year. Not only are the colors alive and beautiful, but we get to remind ourselves of all of the things we have to be thankful for. This year, I am thankful for working here at Twin Lakes and getting to know each of you.

As I sit here in my office composing this literary masterpiece, I can hear the wind blowing through the tree tops outside and I’m telling myself only four more months of isolation. Although, we will be having Winter Tour events scheduled over the next four months to draw you out of your hibernated state. The first of this events will be held on November 21st. Remem-ber, there is no official sign up for these events, so when you wake up on the 21st if the weather looks good enough to play get to the club and sign up your team or we will find you a group to play with that day. Breakfast begins at 7:30 with a shot-gun at 9:00 am. The Winter Tour event for December will be on the 19th.

We will have the Pro Shop holiday party on December 5th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Like years past, we will have appetizers, beer and wine available during the event. The Wheel of Fortune will once again be part of the evening’s entertainment. Ti-tleist, the #1 ball in golf, will be offering free personalization on golf balls, so if this sounds like a possible gift idea for some-one you know, come in early to order them up so we can guarantee them by Christmas. Try and plan early for your golfing needs in case we need to special order your item.

The greens have come back beautifully from aerification, but with the rain our greens get much more receptive to our

golf shots leaving some rather large ball marks. Please take the time to replace, at the very least, your ball marks. And even though it’s difficult to get grass to germi-nate this time of the year it’s still im-portant that we keep filling our divots with sand so that when spring gets here our fairways will be nice and smooth and will fill in much quicker when the grass starts growing again.

The next topic is when the sign is up for CART PATHS ONLY, it means keep your cart on the path. I have been toying with the idea of charging a towing fee if a staff member has to rescue a member stuck in the muck. Let’s try to avoid the need for that decision this winter.

If you haven’t been to Bandon before it is really a treat. I know it may seem a long way into the future, March 17-20, but the Bandon trip sign up is in the pro shop. We would like to keep this as a member only trip so call or stop by the shop and sign up, because on December 1st we will open it up to guests of members for any of the remaining spots. The reason for the push is they need the trip paid in full 75 days in advance. Join us for a great time and a chance to get your year started off with some really great golf and a great time.
