The Boise State University Drum Line is the dynamic force behind the BSU Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band. The drum line plays a variety styles based on traditional and contemporary rudimental drumming. The ensemble typically learns three halftime shows and a pre-game show each season, as well as stands tunes, cheers, drumbeats, and cadences. The BSU Drum Line consists of 8 snares, 4-5 tenors, 5 basses, and 8 cymbals. The drum line staff allows anyone to audition for snare drum, multi-tenors, bass drum, cymbals. Snare members must be able to play both traditional and matched grips. Bass Drum members should pick a specific part to audition on. Everyone auditioning for the battery is encouraged to learn all the parts to improve your chances of earning a position in the line. Auditions not in person MUST be video/DVD. Audiotapes will not be accepted. Please play the rudiment builders and any part of the Fanfare/Rally song for which you wish to be considered (Snare, Quad, Bass, Cymbals). Auditions in person will allow you to play on whichever instruments you wish to be considered. Drum Camp is held on the three days (Fri/Sat/Sun) prior to the Band Camp, which is one week before classes begin in the fall semester. The Blue Thunder Drum Line proudly plays and endorses Pearl Drums, Remo Heads and Vater drumsticks and mallets. Snare drum players please bring your own sticks; model Vater MV-7 sticks only and a practice pad.
