It is made and directed by James Demonaco who uses footage from CCTV cameras. This makes the audience feel more on edge as they are witnessing, and it makes them feel as if they are in the situation…creating tension. In the opening sequence of the Purge there are lots of high angled shots. It gives the audience a wider picture, as if they are witnessing the event as it occurs, putting them on edge and adding to the genre. There are also tracking shots used in the fight scenes, which create a shaky camera effect, representing the point of view of the audience

First 5 minutes In the first 5 minutes they start of by showing credits then they begin to show cctv footage of the yearly purge and events that have taken place within, starting with 2017 going up and finishing with 2021, they also show us many different locations rather than just sticking to one this shows us that the purge doesn't only take place in one location and gives us a more understanding view on the story line.

Costumes Costume designer-Hala BahmetMost of the characters in the purge are found wearing everyday or smart clothes along with a mask to hide their identity, several of them are armed with weapons including knifes, guns etc

• The music creates more tension in the scenes, they also use different music for different scenes such as happy or sad to manipulate our emotions

SettingWe know the purge is set in 2017 because the footage in the first 5 minuets are cctv clips and they say the date, so we know this is set in the future, every other footage is another year so this tells us that it is a yearly event, also the women explains how it works in the beginning while the footage is being played.

Lighting The lighting varies on the different moods, if the scene is happy the lighting will be brighter this represents a calm atmosphere however if the scene is dark we instantly know that the mood is very dull and depressing. It also reflects on what happens next in the movie. In some cases the lighting changes from light to dark very quickly this shows how the emotion changes very fast
