RED & WHITE Expectations

Spring is upon us and with some luck (Not really Luck as all teams have trained extremely

hard & dedicated their time & efforts to get to where they are) we should have 5 of our 6

teams competing in Football & Netball Finals Series – A fine achievement. September is a

Fantastic time to be involved with a Sporting Club & we all should enjoy the fruits of

labour of the players, coaches, support staff & committee. Go BULLS!

Remember everyone represents Karingal FNC and at this time it’s important to remind all

that this responsibility should be taken lightly. Whether you play for the BULLS on the

field or support vocally from the stands there are levels of behaviours that will be

accepted both at the grounds & courts and also at our Club Rooms & Social Venues. Over

the last year we have had incidents that the Club has deemed unacceptable behaviour &

these will simply not be tolerated – The volunteers within our organization donate too

much time, effort & passion to let damage to the brand that Karingal FNC is building. It is

vital that this is protected for future Bulls.

So enjoy the Finals – but be tolerant of others – Do not abuse Umpires, Opposition

Players nor our own under any circumstances & remember to think before acting. Our

Teams have great on field & off field Leadership & we must now replicate this as

Supporters so that we can not only have success but also and as important, respect within

the community.

Go BULLS

Daniel Watts

This week was the first week of the finals and it was a big clash between the Bulls and

Mt Eliza.

We started the game in ordinary form allowing Mt Eliza to much easy ball use a our

tackling pressure was not up at all, this allowed my Eliza to take their time and use

the ball well going into their forward line.

The story was the same in the second quarter we had the wind and we did not utilize

it. If you don't want to tackle or create pressure you will be found out in finals. At half

time we had an honest chat and the boys needed to respond or the game would very

quickly be lost.

They came out and I thought that our pressure and work rate was increased and

thought that we were not rewarded for a work in the third. It was important to

maintain this into the last and we did and with the wind we charged home but in the

end fell short. If I'm being honest we didn't deserve to win the game if you don't want to play four quarters in finals then you will be beaten. The facts are people did fail on

the big stage and to win we need 22 committed players on board.

It is important that the players learn from this and if they do they should really

respond this week.

CLUB 44 - Honoring Justin Groves

Club 44 was struck in honor of the memory of Justin Groves, a player who tragically passed away in his twenties.

Justin was a passionate Karingal person who wore his heart on his sleeve and it is hoped that members of Club 44

share the passion and desire for success that Justin possessed not only for Karingal but in life. The Groves family

has had an association with Karingal for over 30 years and those who have witnessed Justin’s father and brother

David and Paul supporting the club will understand how much victory would have meant to Justin.

The number 44 is symbolic because this is the number Justin wore in all of his games for Karingal. Club 44 retains an

element of exclusivity because of its limited with the Club 44 insignia printed on them.

In 2004 the Groves family struck an annual award to be given at each Presentation Night. The Club 44 award is given

to the player exhibiting the qualities that Justin displayed throughout his career. Courage to perform under adversity,

Determination to succeed against stronger opposition and Tenacity to persist until the result is achieved. In addition to

a trophy the winner can elect to wear jumper number 44 in the following season, his family feels truly touched by the

warmth with which this club has been accepted.

Even with Justin’s passing he continues to have an emotional and tangible influence on the success of the Karingal

Football Club

Netball Report:

B Grade – Karingal: 33 d Mornington: 32

C Grade – Karingal: 14 lt Seaford 22

2 from 3 BULLETTES Teams Make Finals!

Perfect netball weather was upon us on Sunday 2nd September as we travelled to the Sturdee Street courts for finals

netball.

C grade met Seaford in what was to be a fantastic game of netball. An average start led to us playing catch up all

game. Captain Anna provided plenty of talk on the court. A strong wind meant some of Laura’s goals were not

dropping for her. Kate provided plenty of options not only in the goal third but mid court as well. Alyce Hirst played a

great first half in WA in the summery conditions. A very even last quarter meant that if we had of played a settled first

quarter, the result could have been very different. Well played girls – onwards and upwards next season. An excellent

achievement to make finals with some girls who had never even played a game of netball.

B grade took to the court to face the Mornington Bulldogs. A poor first quarter saw us six goals down at quarter time.

Shooting with the wind and towards our cheer squad end helped us to make up four goals and at half time we trailed

by only two. A sensational third quarter saw us fight back and go into the final quarter with a four goal lead.

Every single player on the court stepped up and kept their heads up the whole time. Kelly and Jaime were absolutely

epic in defense, rebounding everything that came their way. Kirsty worked with Kel & Jaime to move the ball out of our

defensive end and not turn it over. Her hands were over everything all game! Angela ran all day in centre providing

flow & speed through the mid court. She’s adjusted her speedy game in sensational fashion and really done what the

coach has asked of her.

Sara and Emma were moving the ball well in our goal ring ably assisted by WA Katie – three goalers in the one third

makes for smart netball in our attacking end. Several intercepts in our goal third go to show how hard the attackers

were working. Their goals just wouldn’t drop in the final quarter for the duo which led to frustration for both the girls but

our defensive pressure all the way down the court was enough to see us through, hanging on to a one goal victory. A

great win!

The B girls were supported by Jess Lord, Laura Jack and Laura Bird. An awesome trio on the bench – which goes to

show how well the girls who were on the court played.

This week we looking forward to watching the boys in action on Saturday against Bonbeach. Our match on Sunday V

Seaford is at Chelsea. We need to step up our game if we are to beat Seaford. We’ve gone down to them twice this

season.
