To the PTSA Board Members…A HUGE “Thank you” for serving this year! It was a pleasure meeting many of you and working together on different programs. Thank you for the countless hours you have put into this year. “Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!” Thank you for attending the monthly meetings, keeping a positive attitude when surrounded by opinions, and working diligently by planning and executing such wonderful events/programs. We couldn’t have done it without you! To the Executive Committee…A BIG HUG!!! Ashley Basquill, Terri Fischer, Anne Morris, Danielle Triplett, Liza Grimm, Doris Rainey, Mary Spencer and Sheila Green...What an awesome group of ladies! We worked, played, worked, laughed, and worked some more! “I’m not telling you it is going to be easy, I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it!” Looking back at all of the events/ programs…I couldn’t be more proud of all we have accomplished this year. WOW! Each one of you are such an incredible person to work with and the PTSA was so lucky to have such a dedicated Executive Committee. I couldn’t have done it without you! To Mrs. Mawhinney, Administration, Teachers and Faculty…Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. It was really comforting to be greeted with smiling faces each time we stepped into the school. It was encouraging to have your positive feedback and communication as we ventured into new activities and improved existing programs. Thank you for your patience! I know I didn’t always make the right decisions but know they were best decisions at the time and always from the heart! Having your support, encouragement, and gratitude makes it all much easier! We couldn’t have done it without you! To the NEW Executive Committee… Good luck as you begin working hard to make next year another successful year! PTSA RESTAURANT SPIRIT NIGHTS Patty Fry

A huge thanks to all the families who continue to support our spirit nights. Mark your calendar's for the last spirit nights of this school year. We have two at different places for your choice. You can attend both and let someone else do the cooking.

Our spirit night total for this year is $495. We are still waiting on the earnings of one restaurant so we have done a fantastic job raising money for our PTSA and programs we support. Thanks!!

COUNSELOR’S CORNER Melissa Miller, 6th Grade Counselor

1.

Here is the important information for you to be aware of in May and June:1. Please be sure you’re regularly checking both

the student’s Edsby account as well as the parent’s account because there is different information on each of them. Keep in touch with teachers via email in order to ensure your children are doing well. More information can be found at mySPOT at myspot.sdhc.k12.fl.us

2. The FSA ELA tests will be given during 5/2-5/6. The EOC tests for Algebra will be given during 5/9-5/13. The Civics EOC tests will be given during 5/16-5/20. A more through schedule was sent to all parents through Edsby.

3. Awards Night is 5/3 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and invitations were sent home if you’ll be getting an award.

4. The 4th quarter goes from 4/4 to 6/10. We’re almost there so keep working hard until that last date!!

5. Ms. Miller will present the last child safety lesson to all 6th graders on 5/27. They’ve been learning about the 5 safety rules which are: a) Know What’s Up b) Spot Red Flags c) Make a Move d) Talk It Up e) No Blame No Shame. This last lesson will be dealing with anti-bullying strategies and online safety.

6. Teacher Appreciation Week is the week of 5/2, and everyone always appreciates all the nice things PTSA and parents do for our faculty!

7. Memorial Day is 5/30 so enjoy this last holiday of the school year!

8. Semester exams will be 6/6-6/9 so be sure to be here each of those days and study hard.

9. The last day of school is 6/10, and the 8th grade send-off will be held all day. More information was sent home in a parent link.

10. The accelerated math testing for incoming 6th graders will be held on 5/4 and 5/5 at 5:00 pm. A parent link was sent home, but if you have further questions, you can email Dr. Patricia Sanders.

11. James Bradley Hulett in Ms. Rawlins’ 6th grade reading class wrote the following very nice poem that sums up everyone’s feelings:

Why do kids have to test?

It’s not fun or for the best.

I’d rather play and not be stuck here.

Testing makes me drop a tear.

No more testing, not for me.

I’ll run away and be in glee.

I wish we could just be that way.

Instead we test every day!

12. Randall is following the “FISH” philosophy again this year which stands for: 1. Have fun. 2. Play. 3. Be there. 4. Choose your attitude. For the “fun” part, students can earn snow cones monthly when they show good behavior, and they will be given out again on Friday 5/27. Hopefully everyone will earn one by the end of the school year.

13. You can keep up on the happenings at Randall through parent links that are sent out at least weekly by Ms. Mawhinney, the principal, but you need to have an email address in our computer system. You can also get lots of information through this newsletter and through Edsby and through our school’s website at randall.mysdhc.org and on our new electronic marquee in the front of the school.

14. Ms. Miller is the 6th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x255. Ms. Roberts is the 7th grade counselor and can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x233. Ms. Richards is the 8th grade counselor a n d c a n b e r e a c h e d a t [email protected] or at 740-3900 x231. Email is probably the easiest way to reach the counselors since they are in and out of their offices frequently. In the guidance office we also have Ms. McKenna who is the Student Success Coach and she can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x235. Also, there is Ms. Horner, the Reading Coach, and she can be reached at [email protected] or at 740-3900 x234. We’re all here to help students succeed any way we can!

BEST BUDDIES Aimee Eftink

Randall Best Buddies would like to extend a thank you to Formaggio's and Chick-Fil-A (Lumsden) for donating lunch for our Best Buddies party on April 22. We appreciate your support. The food was delicious!

On April 16, many of our Best Buddies members attended the Best Buddies Friendship walk that was held at Cotanchobee Park in Tampa. Our club was the top fundraising middle school club in the county, and one of the top schools overall in the county. Our team raised $2025! Way to go Randall!!!!

Tampa Bay Best Buddies would like to send a special shout out to Samantha Robbins! She was able to get 4,000 Gatorade's donated for the walk! Thank you Samantha!

CUTLER’S KIDS COFFEE CAFE Kimberly Cutler

Earlier in the year Mrs. Cutler's Class started a class coffee cafe called Cutler's Kids Coffee Cafe. We sell muffins, hot coffee and sweet ice coffee. We are thankful for Mr. Shawn Roberts at the FishHawk McDonalds for donating supplies that we needed for our coffee cafe. They helped us start the coffee cafe

with no start up costs! On April 26 Mr. Roberts visited our class and we presented him with a poster and a certificate of appreciation which is hanging up in the restaurant. The money earned through the coffee cafe has helped us attend various community trips and recently we were able to purchase 2 "ball chairs" for our classroom.

The Hillsborough County FFA Federation held their meeting where they selected officers for next school year. Mrs. Andrews and myself are very excited to say that Gabby Weinstein was elected to the office of Historian for the Federation Chapter. This is a great accomplishment for her because she was running against students from both middle and high schools from all over the county. She is the

first student to be elected to be a Federation officer while attending Randall. If you happen to see her be sure to congratulate her.

Last month, Randall’s sixth grade PE students were chosen to be a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s new street hockey initiative that supports the growth and development of hockey in the Sunshine State. The “Street Team,” which includes 2004 Stanley Cup winner Jassen Cullimore, visited Randall on April 6th to put on a street hockey clinic for each 6th grade PE class throughout the day. Students had an amazing time learning basic skills and rules, as well as participating in scrimmages. The Lightning organization also donated a full set of street hockey equipment to our school including: 40 sticks; 4 sets of goalie equipment; 2 nets; and a case of balls. In addition to learning a new game of which many students may not have had any prior knowledge, each student received his or her own hockey stick, ball, and voucher to a Lightning game. We are very grateful that our students were able to be a part of this wonderful experience and look forward to integrating street hockey into our physical education program.

If you are interested in helping construct the monuments or have tools that can be used, please contact Mrs. Caldwell at [email protected]. The memorial will go up on Friday, May 22 and will remain in place for the community to enjoy over the holiday weekend.
